RI. We've become famousas we received a mentionin the Birkenhead Newsthe other week. (seearticle overleaf.)

As a follow up to the TuckShop story featured in IssueOne, a letter was receivedfrom the chairman of M.P.C.ELTD. It informed us that theTuck Shop would not closeunless they decided to closeit themselves. Also it wasbrought to our attentionthat the money that is madegoes to charity.

The first magazine waswell received by themajority of the school. So a big thank you toeveryone who bought acopy. This half-term's magazinecontains the now regular.horoscopes, music p~es,and problem page.Thiscompetition though is onewith a difference, it isa "Who is this baby?"There are a variety ofpeople who are featuredsee if you can guesswho is who.

A few other letters were..received regarding the TuckShop. They all expressed thesame opinion that if thechildren of St.Benedictswanted to buy sweets, then itwas up to them.

. One of the letters pointedout that the vast quantity ofpupils are on free dinners, sothey are not losi~out on a"good lunch" ,Mrs. Dot Mlst.

If anyone is interestedin helping or has anyideas, then please seeme.

Any more letters on thismatter would be appreciated.

Two son.-',s which stood out in theplay were "Greased Lir;htnin''', sungby Stephen Connor,Kenickie and "ThereAre Worst Things I eould Do", sungby Claire Gardiner. These two songsare a total contrast to each otherbut both superbly sung.

Congratulations also go to theother members of the cast that werefabulous namely, CarlCJ Sweeny, Carla'fodgins, l~eil Foley, Craig FcGinn,Nichola Smith and everyone else.

    The play was brilliant.

000 _Scott McCabe's portrayal of Teen I ---4: ~~~ngel was brilliant. Despite the

giggles that emer~ed from theaudience as the curtains opened onhim, SC?tt '8 performance was nothing I ********o be glggled at. It was marvelous.

Both the upper and lower sixthform English groups went toLondon the other week to see"Hamlet", by the Royal Shakespeare~ompany. **They left Lime Street stationat about ten past seven in themorning and arrived at Londonjust after half past nine.

    * *The group were left to wanderaround London until lunch time

when they met up to go to theBarbican theatre.**The actual performance of"Hamlet" was marvelous. The

cast was superb. Mark Hylanceplayed Hamlet himself and 8lareHiggins played a captivatingQ,ueen Gertrude. * *

The play was enspiring andwonderful in every aspect ofthe word. **The group returned to Limestreet by half past nine.

In the early hoursof SundayFebruary11th 1990,the boxing world was inturloil as the newsfrol the TokyodOlecirculated the worlds ledia.Thepreviously undeafeatedundisputedheavyweight chalpionof the world "Iron HikeTyson"was knockedto the canvas, andcounted out for the first tile in hiscareer as a professional boxer.JalesBuster Douglaswasthe Ian whoelergedon his feet after ten gruelling roundsin oneof the lost contreversial fightsin the history of boxing.

Before the fight even started ,HikeTyson was soconfident he bookedhisreturn fligbt hOle.His flight'sdeparturetile wasless thanthree hoursafter the start of the fight.ln theoryDouglas did stand a chance ofwinning, but in reality hedidn't haveahope.Bootlakerswouldnot eventakebetson Douglas,it wasn't worth theirwhile. After all the outcOleof the fightwas a foregoneconclusion, victoryforTyson, butin whatround?

After the way Douglasfought againstTyson,1wish I could accept the factthat he is the new heavy weightchalpion, but dueto an incident in the, eighth round, can only say in allhonesty that HikeTysonhasbeenrobbedof his belts, his pride, and hisoutstanding achievelentsandrecord.Butperhaps the lost ilportant thingof allis that Hike Tysonhas beenrobbedofhis reputation.

Things went frol badto worse.'I rapidlywent fromthe top to the bOttOl, I ~egan todrink daily and began to suffer from'blackouts' whichis silply a lemory lossbut it is really frightening not being ableto relember ~hat you had been doing thenight before, I lost IY friends as theybecale ashamedof meand IY antics whileout with them were no longer funny. Igained a bad reputation.

I used to be sick in the morningsand has ~terrible name.rdidn't dare openmymouthin school, I thought that everyonewaslooking at me and talking about Ie. Ichanged completely and nobody couldunderstand Ie. I felt lonely in a crowd,Tben one day sOle speakers frol AlcobolicsAnonymous(A.A)ale into the school andgave a talk about themselves and Iidentified witb wbat they were saying. Imade a decision tben that I wouldcontactA.A by looking the nUlberup in the numberin the telephone book.

I haven't had a drink since I havediscovered tbe joy of living. I thank Godas I understand hi. for giving the gift ofsobriety. Bysobriety I lean being able tocope with living on a daily basis withouttaking a drink ~r a pill, I nowrealisethat alcobolisl is an illness that nevercan be cured but can be arrested by nottaking a drink and workingtbe progralmeofrecovery as suggested by A.A. over fiftyyears ago; Godgrant me the serenity toaccept tbe' tb ings ,I cannot cbange, thecourage to changethe things I can and thewisdomto knowthe difference,
