Easter announces Christ is risen! Christ Jesus, having endured the suffering and death on the Cross, did not allow evil to be the last word. He defeated death. Like a morning star, Christ Jesus illuminates the darkness of fear and gives believers a path to eternal hopefulness. As Christ emerges from the tomb of death, the Church proclaims salvation for all. God’s peace will reign. “Make Catholics proud. U.S. Catholics are proud of Pope Francis, but how about their U.S. church? Do they know that one out of six Americans get their health care from a Catholic institution, or that more than one out of five Americans living in poverty are served by Catholic Charities? Do they know Catholic schools are the largest provider of private K-to-12 education in the country, with almost two million students, and the largest provider of private higher education, enrolling nearly one million students? Or that the national Catholic school graduation rate is 99.4 percent of high school students? And that of these graduates, 84.9 percent go on to college, compared with 39.5 percent of public school graduates? Do they know that the Catholic Church is the largest resettler of refugees in the country? That U.S.-based Catholic Relief Services serves nearly 100 million people in need in 93 countries? That the Society of St. Vincent de Paul serves over 14 million people in need in the United States each year? The Catholic Church is the most important nongovernmental source of social good in the nation, and almost no one knows it. Honestly, the bishops’ conference need not do a thing but begin a more effective public relations campaign. It is time to show ourselves to ourselves—and to the nation—and build some pride.” From the November 2, 2015 America, “Strategic Opportunities: Six [eight online] chances to strengthen the church,” by Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., President of DePaul University and chair of Ascension Health. pp 20-22.

Spaghetti Dinner & Dessert Bake-Off sponsored by St. Augustine Youth Group Family Dodge Ball Tournament sponsored by St. A School

Sunday, March 13th

Step up to Stand on our New Floor in 2016

A special "Thank you" to everyone who made the Youth Group Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser a huge

success! The youth who helped were fantastic, the adults who helped were amazing, and the people who attended were... stuffed... and greatly appreciated. The entries for the Dessert Bake-Off were

yummy and abundant. The winners are... Abby Jordan for her lemon bars, Judy Egan for her better than anything cake, Cathy Hanna for her chocolate chip banana pie, and Sydney Dobson for her lemon blueberry muffins. Thank you to Waukaru Farms (Mark & Heidi Jordan) for donating the beef

for the dinner and Arnis (Bob & Cathy Hanna) for supplying many of the other items at cost.

Thank you to all eleven teams who participated in dodgeball! It was an exciting tournament....the Super

Dodgers team went undefeated in the Double Elimination Tournament & were crowned 2016 St. A Dodgeball Champs! Members of the Super Dodgers team were: Cory Melchi, Cannon Melchi, Fielder Melchi, Jonah Melchi, Rylan Leeper & Reegan Leeper. Runners up were the Dream Team: Isaac Ahler, Hunter Davisson, Parker Jordan, Abby Ahler, Addy Hughes & Taylor Jordan. In a fun single elimination

tournament, the Mavericks team won: Ethan Pickering, Stace Pickering, Carter Drone, Mike Drone, Colby Chapman & Camden Chapman. The Super Dodgers were runners up. Thank you to PFA for the McDonald's gift certificate prizes & to the referees: Ava Kosiba, Nikole Cain, Jana Drone, Jake

Chapman & Brandon Cain.

We have achieved our goal for our floor & pew project, except for

monies pledged & not yet collected from Fruitful Harvest. We are still counting on those pledges being honored. A total of $14,706.00 of

the $36,875.00 pledged towards the floor dovetail has been paid to the Diocese & will be returned to our

parish. Even so, we will be taking up two more floor collections toward

the floor/pew project. These will cover expenses not factored into the

original estimate of the project (more expensive chemical strippers dictated by recent EPA regulations, the cost of kneeler padding where that needs to be replaced). The next collection will be taken up

Easter weekend. The last collection will be taken up the last Sunday of

April. Thank you for your generosity and stewardship! St. Augustine parishioners should be proud of the improvements and maintenance that

have been accomplished in our Church!

Did you know that you can download church events straight to your phone or device by simply clicking a button at the top of the online calendar? Sign up for online giving, check ministry calendars and much more!

Join our Parish Family! Are you a registered parishioner?

Do not take for granted that you are registered in the Parish just because you attend Mass or your relatives are

members. It could be quite embarrassing to us, you and your family when someone wants to make wedding

plans, have a baby baptized, attend Faith Formation, or if you are asked to

be a Sponsor for Baptism or confirmation requiring a note of

Catholicity from us. If we have no record of membership, we cannot

provide these services for you. Contact us today! Call 219-866-5351 or email

us at [email protected].

Won’t you join us for an hour of prayer? Every Thursday, following morning Mass,

parishioners join together in prayer. Won’t you take an hour of your week to pray for peace in our world this Easter season. Through God all things

are possible. We look forward to seeing you Thursdays at 8:30am

The New Evangelization Series Begins on March 30th! If you signed up for this Adult Study Topic, mark your calendars

and join us in the basement from 6:30-8pm. Session #1: “What is the New Evangelization?”, Why is it

worthwhile?” and “How does one do it?” Father explains how the concept of a “new” evangelization began to take shape in the

second Vatican Council. Later, Pope John Paul II called for new ardor, new expressions and new methods to reach out to an

increasingly secular culture, especially in the West. This calling is not just the responsibility of the Church at large; it is also the

responsibility of each individual Catholic who has been baptized.”

St. Augustine School Money Board This fundraiser will be available throughout the year at mass and

other social events. Envelopes are labeled $1-100, as well as a few "name your own price" envelopes. Choose an envelope and place the noted dollar amount inside. Place the envelope with money in

the bucket below the money board, with the church offering, or either the church or school office. Checks may be made payable to St. Augustine School. The Money board is located by the McKinley

street entrance. Thank you!

SASBUCK$ News: Want to make a photo book of your spring break trip? Do it with a

scrip card from Shutterfly, which offers a 9% rebate. Also, wash that spring mud off of your car by using a gift certificate from our March

Merchant-of-the-Month, Northside Car Wash. Call the school (866-5480) or the

church office (866-5351) with questions.
