will be celebrated at Saint Joseph Church

Service are invited and encouraged to attend there.
Scriptural Reflection
Peter, James and John wanted to build a “booth”
for Jesus and just stay on the mountain where His
transfiguration took place. But the Son of God, the Chosen
One, knew that He must instead keep moving toward His
Crucifixion.
We, too, must rise from worship and do what we can to
hasten the coming of the Kingdom.
Let us pray to our healing God, to restore
health and happiness to those in our
hospitals, in convalescent homes and in
their own homes especially, Norman Quenneville and
Norm Cloutier.
Be with our beloved deceased, give them new life in His
eternal kingdom especially, Brenda Rohan, Michael
Curley and Rodger Gagne.
All Registered Parishioners should have
received their next set of offertory envelopes.
If you have not yet received envelopes, please
contact the Parish Rectory Office so we may follow through
to have them sent to you.
PRAYER LINE
As a community of faith, we are a prayerful
people. In addition to our daily prayer, all of
us, in times crisis, have requested others to pray for us.
If you have a special intention, please call parishioner,
Helen Walsh, 860-688-4678, to add a name to the prayer
list.
Those who are committed to defending human dignity
can find in the Christian faith the deepest reasons for this commitment.
Pope Francis, Laudato Si, 65
Please join us for Holy Hour at 6:00 pm
and the Stations of the Cross at 7:00pm
every Friday during Lent continuing
Friday, February 26th through Friday,
March 18th at St. Gabriel Church.
SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT FEBRUARY 21, 2016
There will not be Monday evening
Confessions this Monday, February 22nd.
Confessions will be offered Mondays:
February 29th, March 7th, March 14th and
March 21st from 6-7pm as we continue in our Lenten
season.
This is a great opportunity to get through your workday,
your day of errands, and to take a moment to consider
asking God’s gift of divine forgiveness as we come to the
Easter holiday.
Please check for the confession schedule posted outside the
Confessionals - (February 27, March 12, March 19).
While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a
shadow over them, and they became frightened when they
entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that
said, "This is my chosen Son; listen to him." - Lk 9:34-35
Congratulations to Martha Erickson
On behalf of St. Gabriel Parish, I wish
to extend congratulations to Martha Erickson
who will assume the position of Parish
Secretary, effective March 1st. As you know,
Lisa Lape, our previous secretary, accepted the
position of Administrative Assistant to the principal of our
parochial school a few weeks ago.
I am grateful to Martha for her willingness to serve
our parish in this important role. A pastor quickly learns
that the parish secretary is often the first voice and first
person a new parishioner, a visitor, a caller, or a current
parishioner in need encounters. How essential it is that this
person have the proper demeanor and knowledge! The
parish secretary also coordinates correspondence with
parishioners, including the weekly bulletin. Working
closely with Martha for a year and a half gives me great
confidence in her ability to function quite well in this role.
At this time, I also wish to express gratitude to
Martha for her 9 years of service as our parish
bookkeeper. Her attention to detail in that role will clearly
serve her (and us) well in this new position.
As the position of parish secretary will now be part
-time, the parish office hours will be adjusted effective
March 1st. Beginning that day, the parish office will be
open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am until 3:00
pm.

24 Hours for the Lord
Our Lenten practice this year calls us to rejoice
in God who is rich in mercy. His Holiness,
Pope Francis, asks that the whole Church
throughout the world, including Hartford, unite
on March 4th - 5th to pray and seek mercy for
us and the world. This worldwide act of prayer is called
“24 Hours for the Lord.” For 24 hours, beginning at
5:00pm on Friday, March 4th and continuing until
5:00pm on Saturday, March 5th there will be exposition
and adoration of the Eucharist and the opportunity for
the Sacrament of Reconciliation throughout the world.
In the Archdiocese of Hartford this will take place at three
parishes: St. Peter Claver in West Hartford, Our Lady of
Mount Carmel in Hamden, and St. John’s in Watertown.
This initiative needs your involvement. Please come to one
of these parishes to pray and unite with the whole world in
seeking God’s mercy. Please come and experience the
grandeur of God’s mercy in the Sacrament of
Reconciliation and place mercy and the center of your life.
Please come knowing that when you seek the mercy of
God you will surely find it.
This is a time, as Pope Francis writes, “to gaze even more
attentively on mercy so that we may become a more
effective sign of the Father’s action in our lives.” May we
all continue to be transformed by mercy.
PARISH COUNCIL ELECTIONS ARE 2 WEEKS AWAY!
Elections will take place Saturday, March
5th and Sunday, March 6th.
