    Classic Sri Lanka

With a fascinating culture, beautiful scenery, rich history and friendly, welcoming people Sri Lanka is

a marvelous touring destination. From the ancient cities and cave temples in the cultural triangle,

to the beautiful hill country, clad with tea plantations and reminders of a bygone era; from NationalParks rich in wildlife, to lovely palm-fringed beaches, Sri Lanka, the Resplendent Isle, has a plethora

of exotic attractions that will live long in your memory.

The Cultural Triangle was the heartland of ancient Sri Lankan civilization, and the ruins of the great

cities, Anurahadpura and Polonnaruwa, which once flourished here, are nothing less than

staggering. Sigiriya, where a usurper defied engineering laws to build a royal palace in the sky on top

of a giant rock is Sri Lankas single most extraordinary sight, while the Dambulla Rock houses the

most impressive and venerated Buddhist cave temples on the island.

The hill country is a world away from the rest of Sri Lanka, where green mountains rise from every

quarter, their lower slopes swathed in verdant tea bushes. Spectacular waterfalls plunge over cliffs

into valleys hemmed in between high mountainsides. The cloud forest above is alive with the sounds

    of elusive mountain birds.

In the south, Galle Fort is a perfectly preserved colonial time capsule, with Dutch-era mansions

encircled by a chain of ramparts and bastions. Of Sri Lankas 22 national parks, the finest and most

famous is Yala, an area with probably the richest and most varied collection of wildlife in the

country, including a substantial elephant population, elusive sloth bears, gorgeous birdlife and, most

famously, a significant leopard population. The little village of Mirissa is the whale-watching capital

    of Sri Lanka.

    Activity

It is often the smallest countries that reveal the greatest variety Sri Lanka is a small country, but its

size belies the diverse range of activities on offer within its shores. Activities that can be enjoyed by

individuals, couples and the family alike include walking and trekking; river rafting and canoeing;mountain biking and cycling; horse riding; surfing and wind surfing; diving and snorkelling; golfing

and playing cricket or rugby. Beginners courses in surfing, diving or river rafting are also available.

Sri Lanka is a good surfing destination and Aragum Bay, on the remote south east coast, is counted

among the top 10 surf points in the world, with some of the best waves in Asia.

The highlands of Sri Lanka with its clear air, gurgling waterfalls, tea-laden hillsides and scenery at its

finest is wonderful walking and mountain biking country.

With rapids ranging from grades two to six, Sri Lanka offers some exciting rafting for all levels of

experience. The Kelani River, open to all levels of rafters, was the location for the 1957 film, Bridge

    on the River Kwai.

Paddling a canoe is an excellent way to discover the many rivers, mangroves, lagoons and canals of

Sri Lanka. The Sinharaja Forest is a good place for those seeking wilderness and adventure.

There are four National Cycle Trails on the island, providing the opportunity to experience a range of

landscapes, rural communities and the cultural heritage of the island.

The Marwari horse, from Rajasthan in northern India, is famed for its agility and endurance in

challenging climates. Riding destinations include Nuwara Eliya in the hill country; the UNESCO World

Heritage Site of Sigiriya and historic Tissa, near Hambantota in the Deep South, a region of lotus-filled lakes, paddy fields and Buddhist temples.

The clear turquoise waters with good underwater visibility, colourful coral reefs with their myriad of

exotic marine life and an dozen shipwrecks attract divers, and snorkelers, to the shores of Sri Lanka.

For the intrepid diver a trip to the magnificent Basses Ridge offers adventure diving at its finest. With

some shallow, calm water dive sites, Sri Lanka is a good destination for beginners wishing to take a

    learn to dive course.

Windsurfing, along the coast or on inland lakes and lagoons, is another popular activity, especially in

the west coast resorts of Bentota and Negombo and on the east coast beaches north of

    Trincomalee.

While Sri Lanka is not noted as a golfing destination, we can recommend spending a few days golfing

at the Victoria Golf and Country Club, situated in the hill country, near Kandy. This course is

considered one of the best courses in Asia and is ranked in the 'Top 100 Most Beautiful Courses' by

    Golf Digest.

Cricket, naturally, and Rugby are the two most popular sports played in Sri Lanka. Arrangements can

be made for visiting school or club teams to match their skills against local clubs of a similar level. A

great way to meet people, see the country and indulge in your passion.

    Hot Air Ballooning

    Introducing to Air ballooning

Greet the rising sun as it paints the landscape with wonderful colors while your balloon inflates

majestically. Feel the excitement as you lift off and drift effortlessly over the spectacular scenery. As

the climbing goes on unnoticed, find yourself amidst endless horizons of rugged mountains and

green fields with only the burners to disturb the peace.

Watch your pilot gradually lower the balloon to inches above the evergreen trees as you pick leaves

or touch the tree tops, spot a bird or an animal waking to the daybreak. A Hot Air Balloon Flight is a

participative activity and you can assist in the inflation and the deflation of the balloon if you wish.

    About Air Ballooning

The most popular use of a hot air balloon is obviously for commercial leisure flights where members

of the public book flights and go up in the balloon for an experience of a lasting memory.

    When Do You Fly?

Flights typically depart shortly after sunrise as this is when the air is cool and winds are calm. Hot Air

Balloon Flights are very weather permitting and require good visibility and low wind speeds.

    Pre-planning is the key!

Since flights average about an hour or so and the whole excursion is up to about 3 hours from the

time of pick up to the time you are dropped back at your hotel, pre-planning pays off. There are no

    bathrooms aboard the balloon.

What is the Hot Air Balloon made Of?

The main components of a hot air balloon are the envelope (balloon), fuel system, and gondola

(basket). Most envelopes are made from ripstop nylon which is similar to the material for

parachutes. One difference is that the ripstop is coated inside to contain the hot air. It is open at the

bottom to receive the heating flame and have a deflation port, a large opening at the top that allows

the hot air to escape during landing.

The fuel system is composed of the heater, which burns propane to heat the air in the envelope, fuel

tanks, which are carried in the basket; and hoses, which connect the two. The basket is constructed

of wickerwork rattan and is connected to the envelope by cables. The flexibility has great absorption

level and is comfortable for the guests during landing.

Instruments used in a hot air balloon

The altimeter measures height above sea level, the pyrometer measures the temperature at the top

of the balloon's envelope and of course the compass tells which direction you are heading.

    Beach Holidays

Sri Lanka is blessed with an abundance of palm-fringed, golden sand beaches, washed by the warm

waters of the Indian Ocean. There are quiet beaches while others catch great surfing waves. The

west coast is the most developed and tourist orientated, whereas the superb beaches that line theeast coast are, once again, regaining popularity. Head south, where fishermen perch on stilts, casting

lines into the ocean, for a truly local experience, and remember to choose your beach to suit the

season the west coast is best between November and April, whereas the east coast high season

    runs from May to September.

To help guide you in your choice of beach resort we have graded our resort portfolio: gold, silver or

bronze as well as categorising each of our carefully selected properties: heritage, boutique,

bungalow/villa, lodge, spa resort, all-inclusive resort, beach hotel etc.

Our grading is subjective, based on customer feedback, and does not necessarily conform to the

official ratings, so we very much rely upon your opinions to help guide future holidaymakers and

Sri Lanka can certainly be described as exotic, from the ancient cities and cave temples in the

cultural triangle, to the beautiful hill country, clad with tea plantations and reminders of a bygone

era; from National Parks rich in wildlife, to lovely palm-fringed beaches. With a fascinating culture,

beautiful scenery, rich history and friendly, welcoming people, Sri Lanka is an ideal, and popular,

Location, ambience, professionalism, quality and value have strongly influenced the choice of resorts

your vows; relax and enjoy your honeymoon, or celebrate your special occasion.

We have also designed some special tours to showcase the myriad attractions of the island, focusing

on the tea plantation bungalows in the beautiful surroundings of the hill country; or the cultural

triangle and its magnificent ancient cities. All will provide you with memories that we hope you willcherish forever.
