Book BuddiesBook BuddiesBook Buddies As Book Buddies comes to a close on April 20th, a HUGE thank you to all the volunteers who committed their time and energy this year! At Parkside alone we have 36 volunteers participating in Book Buddies! The goal of Book Buddies is to achieve grade level reading for 2nd and 3rd graders by the end of the program. With-out our volunteers, this would not be possible! Book Buddies is already recruiting volunteers for NEXT school year. If you or someone you know has 30-60 minutes each week to make a difference in a Parkside Pirate's life, please contact Book Buddies at 812-376-4461 or email [email protected]. Visit our website to learn more: barthcobookbuddies.weebly.com.

Yearbooks have been ordered. We have

ordered 30 extra yearbooks so if you still

would like one, please stop by the office.

Once these extra yearbooks are purchased

they will be gone and no more copies of the

yearbook will be available. Cost is $17.

DID YOU KNOW?

•Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school. •Missing 10 percent (or about 18 days per school year) can make it harder to learn to read. •Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two days every few weeks. •Being late to school may lead to poor attendance. •Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up. Our attendance policy at BCSC requires parents to call the school to report a student’s absence. Please remember to contact Parkside at 812-376-4314 before 8:30 AM. If you do not call the of-fice and we do not have a valid reason for your student’s absence, it will be considered unexcused. After 3 unexcused absences, you will receive letter #1, which begins corporation documentation of the missed days. After 5 unexcused absences, you will receive letter #2. After receiving letter #2, parents are required to bring in a doctor’s slip in order for all absences to be considered ex-cused. If absences continue, the parent will be referred to informal court. Unexcused absences can occur, but are not limited to, the following:

Not notifying school of the absence the day your student is absent Traveling or vacation Relatives visiting from out of town Being tired Missing the bus

We encourage you to have your student at school, on time, each day. Their success depends on being here, on time, and ready to learn every day!
