Why should you study sport at RTSFC?We have a strong sport provision at Richard Taunton Sixth Form College, ranging from level 2 and 3 sport courses, to enrichment activities and our Talented Athlete Programmes. In October 2013, Ofsted visited RTSFC and chose sport as one of their specialist areas to inspect. They recognised that “Programmes are well designed and contain a good range of qualifications through which students improve their skills, abilities and ambitions to progress into relevant higher education or employment.”

Ofsted also found that “There is a culture of strong mutual respect between students and teachers with good behaviour and discipline” which makes RTSFC a fantastic place to study sport.

Our sport staff are experienced and knowledgeable, and always look to challenge and progress students. Lessons are recognised as being of a high quality and motivating to allow all students to reach their goals. “Teachers plan lessons starting with imaginative tasks that interest and motivate students.”

Staff develop strong bonds with students by getting to know each individual and catering for their learning needs to maximise their potential. “Students make good progress as a result of the good support offered by teachers who have excellent knowledge.”

Richard Taunton College also has strong established links with outside agencies. Highly qualified coaches work alongside our sport staff, who each have their own specialisms, to provide an excellent experience for students in our Talented Athlete Scheme. This allows students to compete in a variety of sports relevant to their own experience and sporting competency. “Sports students develop high standards of performance and coaching skills in sports. Some develop their skills to national level.”
