Why we don’t add ppe to our spill kits

You’ll notice we don’t show any PPE included with our spill kits. The reason for this is because most organisations will specify their own health and safety requirements. Another factor is the difference in people’s height, weight and sex. A one-size-fits-all policy more often than not results in ill-fitting or more importantly compromised personal safety equipment.

Helping you select the right product for the task at hand

Key factors to decide when recovering a spill or leak

• There are three types of absorbents - these are colour coded for ease of identification

• Absorbents come in all shapes and sizes from simple pads right up to

pre-assembled spill kits and other specialist products like booms, socks and pillows

• We offer traditional meltblown polypropylene absorbents as well as innovative new technology recycled

varieties that feature special additives that lock in the spill and increase absorbency rates

• We offer different weights of absorbent pads and rolls - the heavier the weight the better the absorbency.

Look out for our star rating system to help you decide.

• We offer a selection of absorbent constructions - often overlooked, the way an absorbent is made will have a

big impact on linting (fibres becoming detached), strength and durability.

The first choice to make is to select a

format that is suitable for the type of

spill that is being recovered.

oil-only adsorbents are best used

outdoors to absorb just oil-based spills.

These products are white in colour.

See pages 6-9 for these products.

Maintenance absorbents are grey in

colour, as a general rule of thumb if the

spill has happened indoors, use a grey

product to absorb both oil- and water-

based substances. See pages 10-13.

Chemical or toxic spills require

polypropylene Meltblown absorbents.

These are yellow in colour and are

sometimes referred to as Hazmat.

Next to decide is the shape of the absorbent

pads and rolls These are by far the most

popular format with pads being the favourite.

The rolls are the same as pads but come in a

continuous roll, some of our rolls are perforated

too so individual pads can be torn off as and

when needed.

socks ideal for placing around leaking machinery

or in difficult-to-get-at locations.

pillows are often used where leaks are too large

for a pad.

booms are used to recover oil-based fluids on

bodies of water.

spill Kits are a combination of absorbents

stored in a handy container for fast spill response.

Within each of the three sorbent type sections

we offer a selection of different rated performing

products to help you make an informed decision.

This rating is based on the sorbent’s construction

and its weight in GSM (grams per square metre).

The greater a sorbents weight, the better its

strength and longevity. These are also enhanced

with construction variations too like laminations and

sonic bonding.

In Oil only and Maintenance types we offer natural

fibre or synthetic fibre alternatives. These are state-

of-the-art absorbents and will outperform the

meltblown equivalents in absorbing aqueous based

fluids and match them in absorbing just oil based fluids.

Possessing excellent environmental credentials

‘Sustainable’ sorbents will appeal to any organisation

or company wishing to attain ISO14001 Environmental

Management Systems accreditation. These are our

5-star products in each of the different sections.

Also look out for SpillLockTM which is added to the

Maintenance UltracleanTM absorbents at the top of

page 10. This improves the fibre’s absorbency by up

to 150 times and locks in the fluid.

A state-of-the-art absorbent that is high performing in

every respect. Made from 72% recycled synthetic fibres.

Both the pads and roll feature a poly-backed layer which

prevents spills from reaching the surface below. This

absorbent is incredibly tough with durability a real stand

out feature thanks to its top layer of spunbond lamination.

Meltblown Sonic Bonded is manufactured in almost the

same way as the single layer construction shown below

apart from the passing of the sorbent through sonic

heads. These sonic heads bond the fibres together at

small points, (the area covered by these bond points

is approximately 5% of the pad so it only offers limited

effectiveness at lint control). This construction however

does make the sorbent a little stronger.

Meltblown Double Laminated offers a sorbent which has both

surfaces covered with a non-linting strong spunbond cover.

This configuration is the best for durability and results in

a sorbent which gives virtually no linting at all. Caution is

recommended however as any foot traffic should be avoided

on this product as it can be very slippery under foot.

This construction is made by simply blowing

the desired weight in one procedure and then

cutting it into either pad or roll format. Single

layer meltblown offers fast absorption but

limited durability. These products are ideally

suited to marine and the off shore oil industry.These rolls are perforated which is an effective way to

Our socks are all made with a strong spunbond outer

sleeve featuring a highly absorbent core, producing a

strong no-lint product. The oil-only socks are filled with

polypropylene.

The spill kits featured on this page contain a

combination of adsorbents that will contain and

recover just oil-based spills.

The Clip top kits are contained in a clear polythene

bag with a clip together handle.

The slimline bag is made from a light weight yet

tough black spun-bond material. It also features a

clear plastic front window and zipper to allow the

contents to be easily seen and accessed.

We offer three sizes of Wheeled bin spill kit - all

feature a hinged lid for quick access and sturdy solid

rubber wheels to help transport the kit to and from

the spill site.

Introduced in 2010 and quickly became the

‘gold standard’ during the Gulf of Mexico oil

spill. Featuring a single skin which is very strong

and woven to stop the meltblown scrap core

from escaping. This is the stand out choice if

strength is most important such as in rivers or

strong tidal currents.

thin layer of ‘no lint’ spunbond material is sonically

attached onto the top surface of the absorbent. This

greatly reduces the linting, (fibres coming off easily)

and improves the strength considerably. In roll form the

product has the big advantage of not being as slippery

as other laminated sorbents.
