•1. SETTINGFormigal, situated in the heart of the Aragonese Pyrenees, has a rich variety of landscapes. The Gallego river cuts through the valley, which is surrounded by high peaks, glaciers, massifs, streams, gullies and one of the most important groups of small natural mountain lakes of the Pyrenees.The residential area of Formigal, in the Tena Valley, is situated at 1,550 m at the foot of the Aramon Formigal-Panticosa ski resort, which is just a few kilometres from Portalet, the French border mountain.It is an important international winter sports complex and, in summer it is a mountain tourist resort, providing an array of sporting activities and organized excursions.
