Cross lanes: Athletes name will appear on the overhead monitor on which lane they are on. They will bowl one frame on one lane (1) and the next frame on lane (2) alternating lanes until the game is completed.
Foul Line: If an athlete’s foot or body part crosses the line at the end of the approach it is a foul and no pins will count for that ball. *Raise flag and get official
Dead Ball: If a ball goes in the channel/gutter the pin count is zero (bouncing out of the channel and hitting pins does not count).
Ramp Division: Volunteers steadying the bowling ramp must face the concourse (not the pins). Athlete must be able to tell volunteer where to move the ramp on the approach, if not the ramp stays on the center dot right behind the foul line.
Lane Monitors

During practice check all athletes who are assigned to your lanes. As their
names come up on the overhead monitors. If an athlete is not there, raise your flag and an official will mark them absent or get their name on the monitor.

*In the ramp division not all bowlers wear bowling shoes (please check with coach or official).
At the lanes….• Athletes name will appear on the lane they are supposed to bowl on.• Athletes need to stay in the bowler’s area during competition.• If a score needs to be changed stop bowling & raise the flag for an official.• Once a game is completed write down the score of the athlete on the
recap.• Once all games have been completed on your pair of lanes and all scores
written down, take the recap to the control desk.• Return to your lanes and have the athletes wait until their awards are

What to Expect when Volunteering with Special Olympics Florida
One of the biggest questions that new volunteers have is how to work with our athletes. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
• Special Olympics offers competitions to children AND
adults, so don’t assume that an athlete is a child.
Make sure to talk to athletes with respect.
• Many athletes like to hug, shake hands, give high
fives, etc. You may reciprocate if the athlete initiates
it and you are comfortable with that.
• Remember that respect of the dignity and effort of
the athletes is the priority at Special Olympics Florida.
