Welcome to the Butterflies of BALI Presented by John A. Schroth Family Charitable Trust
We are celebrating our 25th anniversary of the show!
Gaze in wonder as thousands of butterflies flutter through our tribute to the Indonesian island of Bali, The Island of 1000 Temples.
On the island, the volcanic mountains, tropical rainforests, coastal beaches, savannah grasslands and deciduous forests are perfect natural environ-ments to support diverse populations of butterflies.
In our showroom, you will see Monarchs, Blue Morphos and many new species native to Bali, such as Tailed Jays, Common Rose Swallowtails and Leopard Lacewings. The beautifully bright Bromeliads and the gorgeous Gomphrena that grace the room will transport you to a tropical paradise.
The cultural decorations on display were created to illustrate elements traditional to Bali’s art and culture. Batik fabric, meaning ‘drawing with wax,’ which is a process of applique textile motif, called lamak, is represented with geometric patterns including spiral shapes, flowers, seeds, leaves and other plant forms. Look for colorful tassels, a common element of Bali art and religious artifacts. Penjors flank the showroom in glorious and majestic form. These curved poles symbolize a mountain that provides safety and welfare. Black and white plaid fabric called saput poleng, meaning blanket in two tones, are used to symbolize the Bali philosophy of coexistence of opposites and the ultimate goal of harmony
