Cat® C9 ACERT Engine. Delivers, at arated speed of 2,100 rpm, flywheel powerof 173 kW (232 hp) and meets theU.S. Environmental Protection AgencyTier 3 emissions regulations andStage IIIA EU Emissions Directive97/68/EC. With high horsepower andlow displacement, this innovative engineprovides excellent fuel economy anddurability which can significantlyreduce operating costs.

Torque Rise. Is increased as a result ofthe electronically controlled, computeractuated unit fuel system that provideshigh injection pressure and more preciselycontrolled fuel delivery as the enginelugs back from rated speed.

ADEM™ IV Fuel System. Is a Caterpillar®

electronic control module which providesimproved engine response, performance,fuel efficiency, troubleshootingdiagnostics and reduced emissions.It allows integration with the electronictransmission control for maximumpower train efficiency.

Turbocharger. Packs more dense airinto the cylinders for more completecombustion and lower emissions,improving performance and engineefficiency. These benefits are especiallyuseful at high altitudes.

Air-to-Air Aftercooler. Reduces smokeand emissions by providing cooler inletair for more efficient combustion.This also extends the life of the pistonrings and bore.

Dual Cooling Jets. In the block sprayoil on the piston skirt and cylinder boreskeep ring temperatures low for long ringand liner life with excellent oil control.

Pistons. Are two piece articulated withforged steel crowns for excellent strengthand aluminum skirts for reduced weight.Pistons are oil cooled for increased heatdissipation and longer life.

Valves. Four per cylinder allow for goodairflow, enhancing fuel efficiency andheat rejection. Valves and unit injectionsystem are camshaft-actuated forprecise timing.

Delivers top performance, durability and reliability.

Power Train

Crankshaft. Is a steel-forged, carburizedand induction-hardened for long-termdurability. It is dynamically balancedfor smooth operation. The crankshaftis completely regrindable, and theconnecting rods can be removedthrough the tops of the cylindersfor easy servicing.

Cat Engine Oil. Is formulated tooptimize engine life and performanceand is strongly recommended for usein Cat diesel engines. Engine oil changeinterval is 500 hours.

Cat Planetary Powershift Transmission.Features heavy-duty componentsto handle tough jobs. The 345.4 mm(13.6 in) planet drives operate in allgears, forward and reverse.

Heavy-Duty Axles and Brakes.Are designed to last in all kinds ofoperating conditions. Two front axlesdisc brakes provide improved brakingcapability and better heat dissipation.Planetary final drives use free-floating,bronze sleeve bearings in the planet gears.

• Oil disc brakes are adjustment-freeand fully enclosed to lock outcontaminants.

Front Axle. Is rigidly mounted to theframe to support the weight of thecompactor, internal torque loads andexternal loads applied during compactingand dozing operations.

Rear Axle. Includes a trunnion,two trunnion supports and associatedbearings, allowing it to oscillate plusor minus 12 degrees.

Four Piece Axle. Contains two axleshaft housings – the center housing andthe intermediate housing. Features andbenefits of this design include:

• Inboard brakes on the front axle onlyare positioned immediately adjacentto the differential and operate onthe low torque side of the final drive,requiring less braking to stop themachine.

Structure Construction. Combines the useof robotic welding on up to 90 percentof the 814F Series 2 with castings inseveral areas to increase strength byhelping spread the loads and reduce thenumber of parts. This provides highlyconsistent welds with deep platepenetration and excellent plate fusion.The benefits are increased durabilityand fatigue strength. The computercontrolled machining ensures thealignment of pin bore, axle pad,cab mount and transmission/enginecomponents.

Box Section End Frame. Designed toresist twisting and torsional forces, thebox section engine end frame providesa solid foundation for the axles, engineand transmission.

Front Frame. With two plates providesmaximum structural strength duringcompaction and dozing applications.

Spread Hitch Design. Improves loaddistribution by reducing loads to thehitch bearings. The large center hitchdesign improves hydraulic line routingand makes service access easier.

Upper and Lower Hitch Pins.Pivot on double-tapered roller bearings.Box-style sections in the hitch pins andcrossmember assembly improve framestructure strength. Increased diameterlower hitch pins add to the robust design.

Engine and Transmission Mounts.With rubber isolation mount designreduces noise and vibration.

StructuresEnhanced design and materials provide superior strength to the purpose built structuresof the 814F Series 2.

Blade Package. Consists of blade, pusharms, trunnion mounting, dozer lengthskid plate, reversible cutting edges,self-sharpening end bits, hydraulic linesguard and hydraulic blade cylinders.

Straight Blade. Is standard on the814F Series 2.

Dozer Front Frame. Built specificallyto handle greater amounts of rimpull,the machine can readily push its weightplus the weight of the material for longdistances in heavy dozing applications.

Operator Controls. Lift and tilt/tip arestandard options and the levers arelocated to the right of the operator.

Application. The 814F Series 2 excelsat dozing, spreading fill, backfilling,stockpiling, charging hoppers,maintaining roads and cleaning uparound trucks and shovels.

1 Exceptional All-Around Viewing Area.Reduces strain and fatigue, makingoperators more productive.

2 Caterpillar Monitoring System.With electronic analog gauges is ahighly effective and reliable warningand diagnostic system.

As a warning system, it constantlychecks machine functions and tellsthe operator when there is a problem.Easy-to-read gauges display fuel level,temperatures for engine coolant,transmission and hydraulic oil, enginerpm and gear range. Hour meter,odometer and analog tachometerreadings are also displayed.

As a diagnostic system, it identifiesconditions, shows current readingsand plays back maximum or highestreadings registered during recentoperations.

The right side panel contains a threelevel warning system, providingfull-time monitoring of key functions.The system alerts the operator ofimmediate or impending problems withair inlet temperature, brake oil pressure,electrical system, low voltage, engineoil pressure, engine over-speed, fuelfilter status, parking brake status,steering oil pressure and transmissionfilter status.

3 Quick Gear Kick Up/Down Button.Lets the operator easily downshiftor upshift to a different gear. It is aconvenient way to shift that savestime and effort.

4 Ignition Key Start/Stop Switch.Is positioned for easy machine startingand stopping.

5 12-Volt Power Supply and CatElectronic Technician (ET) Diagnostics.Is provided inside the cab for poweringradios, telephones or a laptop computer.This is particularly useful for poweringa laptop running Cat ET to access theenhanced engine and transmissioncontrol system diagnostics.

6 Steering Column. Adjusts to multiplepositions. The leather-like steeringwheel and transmission control providea sure grip and comfortable feel.The horn is conveniently located inthe center of the steering wheel.

7 Pilot-Operated Blade Controls.Are conveniently located and allowfor precise blade movement.

8 Operator Seat. Is designed for comfortand support. Seat cushions reducepressure on the lower back and thighswhile allowing unrestricted arm andleg movement.

• A fully adjustable air suspensionseat with self-contained compressoris available as an option.

9 Built-In Storage Space. Is designedto hold cups, lunch box, insulated bottleand personal items.

10 Repositioned Vents. Throughoutthe cab keep fresh air flowing whileimproving the cab’s heating, cooling,defrost and defog capability.

11 Throttle Lock. Allows and operatorto set the engine speed and remove hisfoot from the governor (accelerator)pedal much like cruise control on anautomobile. Using this feature increasesproductivity, fuel efficiency andimproves operator comfort.

12 Decelerator Pedal. On the left acts asboth an engine decelerator and a brakethat overrides the engine speed selectedby the throttle lock. This enables theoperator to slow down when throttlelock is engaged and to return to throttlelock without pressing a button. It aids inmaneuvering around shovels, haul trucks,tractors or any other obstacle.

13 Windshield Washers/Wipers.With in-the-blade washer deliverysystem are standard features on frontand rear windows. The front wiperhas intermittent speed capability.

14 Rear Vision Camera Monitor.Connected to a camera mounted onthe radiator guard, this monitor allowsthe operator to see the area behindthe machine.

Rear Vision Camera. Uses a cameramounted on the radiator guard and amonitor in the cab to allow the operator tosee the area directly behind the machine.

Air Suspension Seat. Provides addedcomfort for the operator so productivitystays high.

Air Conditioner. Uses blended airand R134a refrigerant for immediatetemperature changes.

Radios. Several radio options areavailable factory installed: AM/FM CDor AM/FM CD with satellite radio(a service contract is required froma satellite radio provider).

Product Link. Allows the customerand/or dealer to monitor the machinefrom a remote location.

Fast Fill Adapter. Used during peakperiods when high production is neededand little down time can be afforded forfueling. Fuel is pumped into the tankthrough a filling nozzle at rates up to378.5 liters (100 gallons) per minute.As fuel enters the tank, air is forced outthrough an open vent. When the tank isfull, the vent closes and the filling nozzle.

High Speed Oil Change. Uses anevacuation system to speed up theengine oil change which helps toreduce the service time.

Turbine Pre-Cleaner Group. Replacesthe standard statatube air cleaner witha turbine-style air intake cleaner whichis useful in dry, dusty work conditions.

Counterweight. Is located on eitherside of the push arms. For each specificapplication, there is a correct machineweight for proper balancing of traction,flotation, mobility and response. Lowermachine weight is usually required fortypical second gear applications suchas fill spreading, stockpiling, roadmaintenance, towing implements andshovel cleanup. Higher machine weightis usually required for such typical firstgear applications as heavy dozing andpush loading.

Tire Options. Are available fromMichelin (two options).

High Intensity Discharge (HID) Lights.Adds four lights on the cab and twoon the radiator guard to brighten up thework area. HID lights are two timesbrighter than the standard halogen lights.

Note: These lights will be availablemid-2007.

Cat Electronic Technician (ET). Is asoftware program which allows theservice technician to find and identifya problem on a machine and to analyzehow to fix it quickly. Cat ET providesthe capability to access the electroniccontrol modules from a personalcomputer.

Cat ET is used for:

• Viewing active and non-activediagnostic codes and clearing themafter repair.

• Displaying the status of allparameters such as engine speed,gear engaged, control levers position,control switch position, etc.

• Performing diagnostic tests andcalibrations of electro-hydrauliccomponents.

• Viewing current configurations andchanging parameter settings.

• Flashing new Caterpillar softwarein the electronic control modules.

• Recording all parameters duringmachine operation.

Caterpillar Monitoring System.Provides diagnostics that allowtechnicians to review a machine’soperation and quickly troubleshootsproblems. Operating parameters,diagnostic codes and out-of-rangereadings are displayed through thediagnostic connector.

Engine Access. All metal engineenclosure and hinged access doorsallow for easy daily maintenance andinspections.

Left Side Service Access. Providesconvenient entry to the engine oil filter,grease points, air filter, power train oildipstick, coolant sight gauge, powertrain oil fill, power train oil filter andhigh speed engine oil fill.

Right Side Service Access. Featuresthat are easily reached under the hoodinclude fuel filter and water separator,fuel primer and engine oil dipstick.

500 Hour Oil Change Interval.Increases uptime and production bydoubling the time between oil and filterchanges without requiring increasedoil sump capacity.

Engine Shutdown Switch. Is locatedinside engine enclosure panel for simpleaccess and extended switch life.

Blade-Style Fuses. Are new to the814F Series 2. They are located inthe cab and improve reliability andserviceability.

Caterpillar Scheduled Oil Sampling.Helps ensure better performance, longerlife and increased customer satisfaction.It is an extremely thorough and reliableearly warning system which detects tracesof metals, dirt and other contaminantsin your engine, axle, transmission andhydraulic oil. S·O·SSM sampling canpredict potential trouble early, thusavoiding costly unscheduled failures.Your Caterpillar dealer can give youresults and specific recommendationsshortly after receiving your sample.

Hinged Hydraulic Oil Cooler and AirConditioning Condenser. Swing openwithout special tools and allows thecooling system to be cleaned quicklyand easily.

Battery Box. Is located in the right sidebumper for convenient access to themaintenance-free batteries.

Tool Box. Is located in the left sidebumper for additional protection againstharsh work environments.

Standards Meet required standards

• The operator sound exposure Leq (equivalent soundpressure level) measured according to the work cycleprocedures specified in ANSI/SAE J1166 OCT98 is 78 dB(A),for the cab offered by Caterpillar, when properly installed,maintained and tested with the doors and windows closed.
