Robert Geneve, Ph.D., Dept. of Horticulture, University of Kentucky Bob has been a faculty member at UK for over 30 years doing teaching and research in ornamental plant production and propagation. He is an author of several books including co-authoring the textbook “Hartmann and Kester’s Plant Propagation: Principles and Practices”. Dr. Geneve has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Society for Horticultural Sciences and the International Plant Propagator’s Society – Eastern region. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences on subjects ranging from plant propagation and seed biology to plant morphology. Doris Hamilton, Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Frankfort Doris is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture and a life-long farmer from Central Kentucky. She began her career as a Research Analyst in the medical field before returning to the agriculture industry. After administering agricultural programs on the local level for 12 years, Doris accepted a position at the Kentucky Department of Agriculture in 2013. She has been an integral part of the creation and implementation of Kentucky’s hemp program. Doris currently serves as the Industrial Hemp Program Manager at the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. Jonathan Larson, Ph.D., Dept. of Entomology, University of Kentucky Jonathan is an extension entomologist at UK. He is a graduate of Purdue (BS in entomology) and the University of Kentucky (PhD in entomology). He helps Kentuckians to understand anything with six or more legs that may be attacking their plants or trying to get into their house. His goal is to help folks promote beneficial insects but also control pests in environmentally and economically sustainable ways. Sgt. Jason Morris, Kentucky State Police, Louisville Sgt. Morris is the Public Affairs Officer for the Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division West Troop. Morris is currently assigned to the West Region and covers the Western Counties of the state for Public Affairs. Morris has been a police officer for 17 years with 13 years in the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. Morris is North American Safety Certified, Hazardous Material Certified and is a Drug Recognition Expert. He is a Field Training Officer for when new cadets graduate and transition to the field. Morris provides training assistance to companies with Federal and State Regulations and can be reserved by emailing at [email protected]. Benjamin Pedigo, Rumpke, Cincinnati, OH Benjamin joined Rumpke Waste & Recycling more than 25 years ago. In his current role as corporate recycling operations coordinator, Benjamin works with municipalities, businesses and industries in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia to divert recyclable materials from the landfill. Prior to joining Rumpke, Benjamin managed the Adams Brown Recycling Facility in rural southwest Ohio. He is a past president of the Association Ohio Recyclers and has been a contributing writer to Resource Recycling Magazine. Most recently, Pedigo worked with Solid Waste Districts in Ohio to help divert recyclable glass to the Rumpke Glass Plant in Dayton. He is a member of the Recycling Partnership’s MRF Working Group, bringing recycling processors together to discuss challenges facing recyclers across the US. Benjamin has been the Ohio representative for the Ohio Valley Water Sanitation Commission’s (ORSANCO) Public Information Advisory Committee since 1990 and was instrumental in establishing the Ohio River Sweep project along with staff from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and ORSANCO. This interstate cleanup event covers the length of the Ohio River and has collected more than 20,000 tons of trash since the program started in 1989.Benjamin earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. He resides in southern Ohio, where is an active participant in his local community. Jack Pizzo, MS, PLA, ASLA, ICN, THE PIZZO GROUP, Leland, IL Jack Pizzo is the founding partner of The Pizzo Group and serves as the President, Senior Ecologist, Landscape Architect, and Nurseryman. Founded in 1988, The Pizzo Group is one of the Midwest’s largest ecological restoration firms. He’s the author of the book “Green and Natural Spaces in Your Community.” Regarded as the expert in successful natural areas restorations and growing native plants, Jack lends his field expertise to The Pizzo Group’s consulting and design divisions where he is charged with scientifically evaluating current ecological restoration practices, identifying and implementing the improvement of methods, materials and processes used for the enhancement and/or establishment of native flora and fauna. Barry Prater, Lexington’s Material Recovery Facility, Lexington Barry is a Native of Russell County, KY. His uniquely blended life experience of work and education has produced a passionate promoter of the Recovered Materials Industry as well as an understanding that Learning is life’s greatest treasure and sharing its greatest reward. With a background in Marketing; as Plant Operations Manager of Lexington’s Material Recovery Facility (LEX-MRF), Barry’s efforts and experience helps lead over 50 Team Members toward the sustainable ecological & economic balance of over 36,000 tons of recovered material annually. Barry is a SWANA Certified Manager of Recycling Systems and a holds a Certificate in Business Administration from the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics. Tom Ranney, Ph.D., North Carolina State Univeristy, Mills River, NC Tom has been a faculty member at North Carolina State University since 1989 and is currently the JC Raulston Distinguished Professor of Horticultural Science. He lives, works, and gardens in the mountains of Western North Carolina where he has the good fortune to lead a research program at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center in Mills River, NC. Jacob Shreckhise, Ph.D., USDA-ARS, Wooster, OH Jake earned his B.S. and Ph.D. in Horticulture from Virginia Tech after having been raised working for his family’s retail nursery and landscaping business. Currently, Dr. Shreckhise works as a research plant physiologist with the USDA-Agriculture Research Service in Wooster, Ohio. His research focuses on mineral nutrition of containerized woody ornamentals and improving retention of nutrients, namely phosphorus, in potting media during irrigation. Dr. Shreckhise has been a frequent contributor to the quarterly Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association Newsletter, authoring the recurring “Featured Plant” column in which he identifies and promotes underutilized landscape plants in Virginia. B. Scott Southall, PLA, LEED AP BD+C, ASLA, AICP Scott is a principal with earthcycle design, llc, a landscape architecture, urban planning and community resilience design firm, based in Lexington, KY. He is a Professional Landscape Architect in Kentucky and Ohio, a LEED Accredited Professional BD+C with the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and a Certified Planner with the American Planning Association. Scott has over 25 years of professional experience in planning, design and project management. He has applied his sustainability design experience on a multitude of projects ranging in magnitude and complexity including: urban and site design for institute and community facilities with an emphasis on education and public outreach pertaining to Green Infrastructure (GI), Low Impact Development (LID) and Sustainable Sites. Scott has presented on an assortment of sustainable practices and topics at statewide, regional and national conferences. In 2008, Scott Southall shared the State of Kentucky Governor’s Award for Environmental Leadership. In 2009, Scott Southall received an Environmental Commission Award from Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government for his environmental outreach and sustainable design efforts in Lexington. Scott graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture. Currently, Scott serves as one of twelve Sustainable Champion for American Planning Association (APA), serves on the steering committee of Empower Lexington (a climate action plan to reduce CO2), and as Treasurer for LFUCG’s Environmental Commission. In March 2017, Scott completed a three-day Climate Reality Leadership Corps training to become a Climate Reality Leader and served as Mentor in October, 2017. Scott is a past Chapter President and Trustee of Kentucky ASLA, past Board of Director member for Southeast Stormwater Association (SeSWA), and Market Leadership Advisory Board (MLAB) for USGBC Kentucky.
