(Information Technology) M.B.A. The intake of students is 120 for M.B.A. and B.E. (Mech.). For all other programmes, the intake is 60. ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE The academic year 2011-12 for UG and PG courses commenced as per the guidelines of Anna University. Apart from class room teaching and laboratory training, the students are given exposure to latest developments/technologies by arranging Guest Lectures and industrial visits. The students are also encouraged to present technical papers and participate in technical events to develop their technical and communication skills. Quite a few students of our college have won prizes in these events. Staff Development Programme on Disaster Management for Engineering and Management Faculty, July 11-23, 2011 Co-ordinators: Dr.D.S.Ramachandra Murthy, Dr.T.L.Venkita subramanian and Dr.P.Partheeban

A two-week staff development programme on Disaster Management was conducted from 11th to 23rd July 2011. The programme was sponsored by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The contents of this programme was so designed to serve as course material for a one-semester course on Disaster Management in undergraduate and post graduate programmes. Dr.B.Bhattacharjee, Hon’ble Member, National Disaster Management Authority, Government of India, inaugurated the programme and delivered the inaugural address. He outlined the various aspects of disaster management namely, pre-disaster phase which includes prevention, mitigation and preparedness, and the post- disaster phase which includes response, rehabilitation, reconstruction and

recovery. He also released the book on Disaster Management, published by the Coordinators. This book contains reading material prepared by experts who delivered key-note papers during the programme.

Dr.T.Srinivasa Kumar, Scientist, Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad, presided over the valedictory function and delivered the valedictory address. He also distributed the certificates to the participants. The programme was attended by more than 50 participants from various academic institutions. National Seminar on Design, Analysis and Health Assessment of Structures including Bridges, August 24-26, 2011 Co-ordinators: Dr.D.S.Ramachandra Murthy and Dr.P.Partheeban Integrity and health assessment of structures is very important for ensuring the safety of structures and their life management. A national seminar on Design, Analysis and Health Assessment of Structures including Bridges was conducted from 24th to 26th August 2011. Very good response was received from experts and authors for the seminar. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr.Nagesh R.Iyer, Director, Structural Engineering Research Centre – CSIR, Chennai, on 24th August 2011. While delivering the inaugural address. He highlighted the major projects carried out on health assessment of structures. Seven key-note and twenty-two contributed papers were presented during the seminar. We are grateful to the Council of Scientific and Industrial research (CSIR), New Delhi, and the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Mumbai, for sponsoring the seminar.

Mr.S.S.Ramadoss, Hony. Secretary and Sr.Lecturer, St. John Ambulance, Chennai, conducted First Aid Awareness Programme for YRC volunteers on 29th November 2011.

Students of our College Youth Red Cross participated in the competitions conducted by Indian Red Cross Society as part of 62nd Geneva Convention Celebrations Day. Two students, Mr.V. Gopikrishna , IV B.E. (CSE),and Mr.R.R.Suresh Maharaja, IV B.E. (ECE), won first prize in Quiz competition.

Our club was selected for participation in BAJA competition to be conducted in Pithampur in February 2012. Our students are enthusiastically making the all-terraine vehicle for the event with liberal financial support by our management.

Road Safety Awareness Programme

Road safety awareness programme was conducted on 6th January 2012. Mr.N.Dakshinamurthy, Former Divisional Manager, Traffic & Transportation Planning Division, Metropolitan Transport Corporation, Chennai, delivered a lecture on Road Safety. Apart from students, 35 drivers participated in the programme.

National Education Day was celebrated on 11th November 2011 commemorating the birth anniversary of Mr. Abdul Khalam Azad, First Education Minister of India. Dr.L.Mahesh Kumar, Director (Academic), St. Peter’s University delivered a special address to the students. Essay and Elocution competitions were conducted for First Year B.E./B.Tech. students and prizes were distributed.

Dr.K.Purushothaman, Prof. and HOD (Mech.), participated in the International Conference on Mechanical, Automobile and Robotics Engineering ICMAR’2011, held at Pattaya, Thailand, during October 7-8, 2011. He presented a technical paper on “Study of combustion performance and emission characteristics of a compression ignition engine operating on a diesel-orange blended with lower concentrations.” He was also chairman for one technical session.

3. On-campus placement drive was conducted for Final Year B.E./B.Tech.students by the following companies namely, Infosys, Vernalis Systems, Prokarma, Protechsoft Technologies, MRF Tyres, Bharat Logistic Solutions, IMRB Abacus, Syntel, Cybernet Slash Support, and Origin Learning Solutions.
