Welcome to the 3rd Annual Southwest Showcase Simmental Bull Sale. I want to congratulate this group of six Simmental seed stock producers for identifying a need and addressing it. This southwest area is one of the largest pro-ducers of commercial beef cattle in Western Canada and there really was not a Simmental bull sale addressing their needs. The Southwest Showcase breeders produce bulls right in their commercial customers backyard. They develop, feed and present them in a manner their neighbours and customers can relate to. The potential herd bulls are sired by either proven walking herd bulls or AI sires that are proven breed leaders. As in the first and second sale, the con-signors will bring you bulls selected from the top of their bull pens. I urge you to visit with these hands on producers about your herd bull needs. They will be happy to show you the bulls on offer as well as the cow herd if you desire. Gary Rairdan and myself will be very familiar with the bulls on offer and would be happy to assist you in any way you require. We will be available at Heartland in Swift Current the day before the sale and, as always, welcome your calls. If you are unable to attend we would be honoured to represent your needs in a professional and confiden-tial manner. - Brian Bouchard

EPD ExPLANATioNEPDs are “Expected Progeny Differences”. They are a useful tool in selection. EPDs incorporate the individual animal with its averaged ancestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds, they are individually based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. use them for guidance in the direction you want your herd to go.

Wide load coming through! Our top selling black at last year’s sale was also Red Texas x Dream On, selling to Town View Farms. Texan is every bit as good. He packs a lot of meat and muscle on his moderate frame with a ton of capacity to convert forage. Very sound structurally and so fluid in his movement. Unlimited potential, don’t miss him. His dam is a really good, easy flesh-ing cow that is one of those trouble free cows. She has an outstanding daughter retained. We woud like to reserve the right to draw semen for use in our herd.

Welcome to our Third Annual Sale. We would like to thank everyone who helped make last year’s sale such a great success. We would like to express our appreciation to all buyers and bidders of our bulls. For over 40 years we have been selling bulls and working to breed hardy, trouble free cattle. We believe very strongly in building around cow families that have proven themselves to be superior. Some of these families are the 52C Red Bear daughter that was very reliable and at 16 years of age still had perfect feet & udder. Two full sisters by Americana, 29G & 10E whose influence is always seen in the bull pen and when we select replace-ment heifers. The 68D Blue Print cow that mysteriously shows up in the pedigree of many of the good ones. 46Z, a universe daughter, was part of the early foundation of our herd. We have retained most of the daughters and many of the sons from these families. We have done some line breeding of these families with good results. We are pleased with the group of bulls we have to offer. of 124 born, only 75 were retained as bulls and 21 of those were selected for this sale. We present them as we would like to buy them, not over fed, no feet trimmed, semen tested and ready to breed cows. We stand behind our bulls, and have backup bulls available, so if any problems arise please do not hesitate to call. our cow herd receives Pyramid 5FP before breeding. All calves have received 2 shots of Pyramid 5FP, Presponse Sq, Seven Way Somnus and ivomec. We welcome your calls or visits, any time, any day, to view the bulls at the farm.

A late March calf that is long bodied, good haired Sprout son that represents his sire well. 192Y is a long strided bull that steps past his track with the hind legs. Re-ally good muscling, testicles, and easy going. He is the result of line breeding between 10E and 29G, two Americana full sisters. Again, the daughters should be keepers. His dam is a larger framed, good milking cow with a perfect udder.

15Y is a moderate, very good footed bull that resem-bles his sire. Full of guts, with a big butt and huge testicles. Excellent disposition and Homo Polled. You will want his daughters for herd replacements. 27U is a good, young Gunner daughter from the 52C family. The sire, EDN Sprout 48S, was retained as a backup bull, but has become an important part of our program. At 6 years of age, his feet are perfect, his attitude is unbeliev-able and he is the type of bull that will easily maintain and even fatten on hay. He is a grandson of the 29G cow.

A long, smooth, clean fronted, tight sheathed bull that has been popular with visitors. 90Y should work well on heifers or cows. One of the most complete herd sires in our offering. From a 68lb BW to 1224lbs at a year. Top 1% of the breed for calving ease. His moderate, easy fleshing, black 2 year old dam is a favorite in our herd. She is sired by EDN Toledo 86T, a Red Label son owned by Birch Creek Ranch. Toledo produced 2 feature bulls for our 2010 sale after very limited use in our herd. The Grand Dam by EDN Punch is also the dam of 175Y (Lot 20).

His highly productive and fertile dam was Amanda’s 4-H project as a yearling heifer. All her calves have been A.I. sired which means she has conceived on her first breeding annually. Four daughters have be retained in our herd. A son sold to Don Cholin. Her sire EDN Morton – Lucky Dice X Black Cisco and 52C was the foundation sire of our black program. With Big Sky, Bravado and LFE Bulletproof, 8Y has a stacked pedi-gree for calving ease and maternal traits. Big Sky daughters are some of the best producing cows in the breed. Red Sky is a long spined and docile with good hair and testicles. Notice his EPD of 11 for calving ease and 11.2 for milk. 219Y is our youngest on offer, but in my opinion this bull has a lot of potential. A loose made, easy fleshing bull with a deep quarter and flank. He moves out effortlessly and tracks perfectly on faultless feet and legs. Dog guiet and real nice haircoat. EPD’s at 9.0 for C.E. and 10.6 for milk. His dam carries the genetics of 3 top cow families, 52C, 29G and 68D. She is a moderate, low maintenance cow that is flawless. Two daughters have gone into the herd and her first son went to Byron Thomas as a top seller at our 2010 sale. She is one of the reasons that we are so high on EDN Punch daughters. Look for more Punch daughters in our black section. His sire was purchased from Erixon Simmentals as the top selling bull at the Advantage Sale. He stems from Bob’s favorite cow family. He was All Breeds Jackpot Champion at Brandon Ag. Ex. and at Saskatoon Fall Fair. He was Bull Calf Champion and Reserve Champion Bull.

Here is an eye appealing April 1 son of EDN Vico 40U, our Homo Polled calving ease bull that sired our top selling bull last year going to Camden Cattle Co. 209Y stacks up very well against the older bulls. The first things you will notice are the deep red color, heavy hair coat and easy going nature which comes with all Vico calves. EDN Vico 40 U scored 9 out of 10 for docility on his Igenity test. Don’t overlook him because of his age. Testicles are develop-ing well. His dam is a daughter of EDN Red Nugget, a direct son of the 52C cow. His Grand Dam, a Big Sky daughter was one of Amanda’s 4-H projects as a yearling. At 11 years old she is still a completely sound cornerstone of our herd that always brings in a top calf. The Vico – Red Nugget combination always works well. Ask Doug Wilson about the two sons he bought last year.

Here is a calf we have had our eye on since birth. After much deliberation we have decided to offer him for sale. Built like a tank, full of meat and muscle on a moderate frame. He has huge testicles, awesome disposition and moves out well on flawless feet and legs. You need to see this bull out on cement, you can’t build a more perfect foot. 125Y will pay big dividends to his new owner. EDN Minnie 46M was another of Amanda’s 4-H projects as a heifer and Champion at the local show. She has developed into an awesome trouble free cow. Last year’s calf was one of the top sellers going to Oklahoma. We woud like to reserve the right to draw semen for in herd use.

Star is one wide load in the black division. Probably the biggest topped calf in our pen and that width extends from front to back right down over his butt to his hocks. A straight black calf with a white star on his forehead. His dam also has that white star on her face, and is an easy doing front pasture cow that has two daughters retained. His 12 year old Grand Dam, a Metro X Universe daughter, is still producing and completely sound. She is also the Grand Dam of 120Y (Lot 13).

A good natured, large framed bull that will put growth and performance into his progeny. Exceptionally long but still a lot of thickness and depth of body. Outcross genetics for most herds. Again that big sound foot that I look for in a herd bull. His dam is a bigger framed cow that will wean calves 50% - 60% of her own weight. All of her calves have been born in February. She branches from the same family that produced the $10,000 EDN Spud 17S bull at OK Farms of Red Deer and the Chunk bull at Prairie Wind Farms. Also a Bold Impact son went to Lee & Cindy Peterson some years ago. We would like to reserve the right to draw semen for in herd use.

Curve bending genetics here with Lucky Dice ranked in the top 3% for CE and top 2% for yearling weight. Lucky Dice semen has not been available for some time. 43Y will catch your eye in the bull pen every time with that proud herd bull pres-ence about him. Moves out well, on big, correct feet. Nice length and good thick-ness across his top and down into his butt, and huge testicles. He could be the bull you have searched for. Check him out. His 2 year old dam is a very good big ribbed and moderate frame, with nice level full quartered udder with desirable teat spacing, back to the 52C cow family. Another really docile, completely sound bull, that can really get out and move. Nicely balanced EPD’s right across the board. You will want all the daughters for replacements. Welcome to the 3rd Annual Southwest Sale. We would like to start off by saying thank you to last year’s bidders and especially our buyers Goehring Ranch and Spring Lake Colony. our goals are simple - raise moderate, easy doing cattle that excel at calving ease and press the scales come weaning. We will calve out 55 black Simmental and SimAngus this year and utilize walking herd bulls, A.i., and embryo transfer to improve the quality and consistency of our herd. We feel Simmental is the best choice to use on your Brit-ish based cow herd providing that extra boost in your calf crop. if you have any questions on the bulls in the sale, feel free to give us a call and we encourage you to come by and see the dams and extended family to these bulls. Buying a herd sire is the biggest impact that you will have on your herd and knowing the background will help you make the right choice.

His dam Sheza Beauty 7N is a moderate, big volume Joker female with an ideal udder and super feet and legs. She is the most consistent producer we have ever had and believe can add value to any pedi-gree. We have retained every calf from 7N to date as well as three full sisters and one full brother to Titan. Two full brothers were sold last summer after our joint field day in August. Welcome to the third annual Southwest Showcase bull sale. We are excited to be part of the livestock industry. With the cattle numbers being low and the demand for slaughter cows and bulls very high; we have seen better pricing for the high quality of product that our com-mercial customers are producing. Keeping this in mind, now is the time to replace your old herd bulls with newer genetics. our bulls are good, honest, practical bulls raised with the commer-cial buyer in mind. There is no creep in their ration, and their weaning weights are produced only by their mothers. Kelly has said more than once that “the cows better be able to do it - or we are in trouble”. Due to the very wet spring we did not get the cows and calves out to pasture until late June. With this in mind, the bulls did not get weaned until oc-tober, and were only on hay until December when we introduced them to their grain ration. We realize that they might be a bit “green”, but we refuse to push them to make them look good just for sale day, as these bulls have to last! Docility, calving ease, calf vigour, weaning weights and soundness are our genetic priorities to the commercial buyer. Please feel free to give us a call. We look forward to talking to you about our program, and how these bulls will work for you!

Welcome to the third South West Showcase bull sale. our family has lived here in the Cypress Hills since 1909 and has been raising Simmental cattle since 1971. Ryan and Julie are the fifth generation to have lived and worked on our ranch. We run a mature cow herd of 350 cows plus bred heifers. We only retain 25 bulls so the selection process starts as soon as they are born. our cattle are selected for low maintenance and “do it on their own” traits. With cowherds getting larger and many people having off-farm jobs to help pay the bills, we realize these are the type of bulls that our commercial customers need. We sell only a small number of females every year through the Agribition and Simsational sales where many of these females have gone on to be feature cows for their new owners. This year our bulls will be ultrasounded and that information will be available at sale time or you can contact us before the sale. Thank you to all who attended last year’s sale and we hope to see you back again this year. if you have any questions about the bulls, please feel free to call Don or Ryan any time.

Turbo progeny are all so very consistent. All are very moderate framed, thick, deep, lots of dark red hair and they are all polled. We calved out our first turbo daughters in April 2011, and they did a real good job of raising a calf while maintaining condition and breeding right back. Out of a powerful Lottery cow, 38Y should put lots of performance in his progeny.

There is only so much we can say about the Turbo cattle. They are real beef machines. Out of a big dark red cow that let up a bit on her milk production as a 10 year old, but over the years has been one of our top producers.

In our herd we stress maternal traits first and foremost. MRL 164W was purchased to produce superior females and the results have exceeded our expectations. The dam 89S has had two daughters sell through the Agribition sale. With his small head, trim shoulders adn a little lighter bone. I would think this bull could be used on larger heifers.

With eight Turbo calves in the sale, we feel this one is very special. So thick topped, deep ribbed and right for the times. In today’s cattle industry economics the moderate framed thick cattle are the ones in demand because they are the ones that make the money. He is out of the best cow family on our ranch that we can trace back right to 1971. To top it off he is an outcross to most of the red cattle out there. This big, long bodied black bull has full goggles around both eyes. His dam is not a real big cow but she is a big producer as are all the Heavywieght daughters, who are our best young black cows. This bull will put some chrome on calves out of solid black cows.

This pen of bulls, due to their age, were purposely held over to sell as long yearlings. Now with an extra year of age, they will go home and breed more cows with less trouble. These bulls are ready for bigger pastures where they have to really get out and hunt down the cows. These bulls were turned out on native pasture from May 1 until late October when they were brought back in to start on feed. They have been fed a light grain ration this winter as we want them to go out and work for your for years.

This guy is a tank plain and simple. Long as a freight train and extra wide, 9Y will definitely be adding some serious pounds to any calf crop. He was easily the highest Indexing red bull for WW, YW, ADG, and WPDA. His EPDs rank in the top 2%, 4%, & 15% for YW, WW, & MCE respectively. He’s sired by the infamous “Temptation” bull who’s known for his tremendous offspring and who’s semen is no longer available in Canada. His Dam has produced an excellent ¾ brother to 9Y selling to Diamond K Cattle Co. and an awesome “Silk Tassel” female who was also bred Temp-tation and wouldn’t you know it, her heifer is right at the top of the replacement pen. 9Y has big testicles and is overall a very attractive individual; he was voted Cattlemen’s Choice Champion Bull at the Medicine Hat Pen Show in December. 9Y is too tempting to pass up!

Welcome to the 3rd Annual Southwest Showcase Bull Sale. Some years it just so hap-pens that a lot of your best producers have bull calves. Last year was that year for us, so this year’s bull sale offering is very exciting to say the least! it was such a joy to tour the pasture last summer with this set of bulls on their dams. We think we’ve provided some good bulls for your appraisal at this sale, many of whom are out of Ai Sires whose availability is limited in Canada. one Ai Sire that you will recognize in many of our pedigrees is TCF/RCC Temptation GJ640, whose progeny have been well received across Canada, and for good reason. “Temptation” is one of those bulls that sires high performing bulls and exceptional females. We select all our Ai sires based on their ability to produce both excellent females and bull calves, with a bal-ance of calving ease and performance. Many of the bulls have been igenity Profiled, Polled and Color tested. To view igen-ity profiles, scotals, pictures of the bulls’ Dams, Sires, relatives, and more, please visit our website at www.boundaryranch.ca. Give us a call or stop by anytime and we’ll be happy to show you around the bull pen and our cow herd. Thank you to Bouchard Livestock for the excellent job they do with the sales man-agement. A big thank you to all those who have supported our program in the past. We look forward to seeing you all sale day!

We really like the Red Ace calves. They come easy with moderate birth weights, but have great performance. 21Y is a powerful bull with lots of width, eye appeal and a great disposition. His Red Label dam had a fancy “Bravado” heifer calf that sold at Agribition Sale in 2009 to Tessier Simmen-tals. 21Y has above average BW, CE, MCE EPD’s and still managed to rank 2nd of the reds for AYW & WPDA. 21Y should provide a balance of calving ease and performance.

I can’t say enough about 68Y; he’s so deep, wide, hairy, and dark red – an extremely attractive package, without even considering his dam. Reggie 110R is our resident can’t miss red cow. Her first calf was a Bravado female that as a 2 yr old produced the high seller for this sale in 2010. Her 2nd calf was the high selling red bull in the 2009 “Your Choice” Bull Sale and one of the best bulls we’ve raised. She also has beautiful 3yr old and 2yr old females in our herd. 68Y’s EPDs rank in the top 5% for WW & 15% for YW. Backed by his powerful “Crocket” AI sire and the potent “Reggie” family genetics, 68Y should be one of the great ones. Look-up this bull’s brother and sisters on our website; you won’t be disappointed.

1Y is a very smooth bull sired by the calving ease bull Bravado that has worked so well here. Bravado calves are typically born early and 1Y definitely fits the mold with a 272 day gestation. 1Y was weaned with the Angus calves so he was only getting 2.5 lbs of barley until mid-December, but now that he’s with the sale bulls he’s really catching up. With low EPDs and a BW of 77 lbs., 1Y should work well on heifers. Inconclusive Polled Test - Scurred

Crockett 59Y has stood out since day one. He’s correct in his make-up, balanced, and thick, yet moderate in stature, much like his 7 year old Dam who hasn’t changed a lick since the day we bought her! Tumbler 550R had the high selling heifer calf as a 2yr old at the Kimlake Dispersal. Her “Enticer” 2yr old has a great bull calf that sells as Lot 58 (67Y). The “Inspiration” females are known for their perfect udders, so if you’re looking to produce some replacements that last, take a good look at 59Y and Lot 53 (45Y). Twin - Heterozygous Polled

Amarillo is a bull that we are very proud to offer at this year’s Showcase sale. Dark red, loose hided, free moving with tons of muscle and hair. His mother is one of our very best cows that has a perfect udder, wide top and tons of depth. She is a daughter of the 16P cow that we have really built our red program around. We have been very happy with the consistency and quality of our Texas calves. They really have that extra muscle and power to sire those top per-forming calves. The Texas x Red Snapper cross makes for a very interesting combina-tion here. Amarillo could be that standout outcross sire that everyone is searching for. This bull looks great from every angle. Lots of width over the top, a strong hip and a great coat of hair. He has looked good from a very young age. His sire Red Bull is a new Freedom son on the market that has produced some top offspring in many operations. Look for him to moderate frame, add muscle and produce a great set of females.

This blaze face calf will really catch your eye on sale day. Long bodied, smooth shouldered with lots of eye appeal. He is a son of the new Red Bull who has left an impressive first set of calves, and mothered by a very consistent Robin Hood cow. Our Robin Hood cows are all the same - good uddered, feminine and their production is second to none.
