    YWAM OXFORD - March 2010

    FROM THE DIRECTOR...

This is my lastfrom the directorarticle. One,because we aredoing away withthe title andreplacing it withTeam Leader,

and two, because Susanne and I are headingout to Turkey and Jeremy will fill the new role.

Jeremy is from Indiana, USA and has been

working with YWAM Oxford, specifically the

Around the World in 80 Days DTS, since 2005.

He is a young man with a passion for the

unreached and a vision as large as the world.

He is a worshiper, an intercessor, a discipler

and a missions mobiliser. We are confident

that he is the man of Gods choosing and,

along with his staff team, will take YWAM

Oxford forward into Gods plans for us in thetwenty tens.

Susanne and I, along with others from here,

will be based in Turkey, facilitating the

mobilisation of short-term mission teams and

long term workers from New Zealand,

Australia and the Pacific Islands. ANZAC2015

is the name we have given to this initiative to

call and host as many ANZACs in Turkey as

we can in leading up to the 2015Gallipoli

centenary. We want to mark this centenary by

blessing Turkey in every possible way we canthrough the love of Christ.

2009 saw the completion of our new building,

the establishment of Kings Kids ministry, the

introduction of the Earthcare DTS led by Rob

& Jenny, and the Fathers Love Crossroads

DTS led by Caroline. 2010 will see the

introduction of two new second level schools:

Construction for Missions and School of

    Frontier Missions.

As we continue to grow, we increasingly need

committed, long-term staff. We are in exciting

times. Maybe God is calling you! Perhaps our

needs will fit your calling, skills and

experience. Drop us a line and lets start

    talking.

    Staff ProfilesTeam Leader

As Chris previously stated, my name is Jeremy Slough and Im stepping

into the role as Team Leader on base. For the last five years Ive been apart of the Around the World in 80 Days (AW80) DTS here at YWAMOxford as student, staff, and school leader and I must say that thesehave been some of the best years of my life. I feel so privileged to be apart of YWAM and more specifically, to be a part of YWAM in Oxford asthis place really feels like home.

Honestly, I had many reservations about accepting this role with itschallenges and all my unanswered questions, but with time and prayer I

could not deny what God was asking of me for this season. This was

clearly not an idea or desire of my own, but one that was God driven.

This new season is one of fully trusting and relying on Him for wisdom,

    direction, and peace.

My excitement is growing as the pace around here is picking up. Ive

quickly discovered that most of my time is not so much being in the

office as it is just being available for people in corporate and individual

settings. These first few weeks Ive been getting settled into the office

and my apartment, while familiarizing myself with the day-to-day functioning of the base.

Additionally, the AW80 DTS and the Biblical Core Course are in full swing and we have recently graduated

the Backpacker and Fathers Love DTSs.

It truly is a blessing and honor to be involved with Gods story in this place. I am excited as I consider what

He has planned for YWAM Oxford and the lives that will be changed because of what takes place here.

    Trusting Him,

    Jeremy Slough

    Hospitality Staff

Greetings to all from New Zealand! I grew up in various parts of the United States of

America. My family has a heart for adventure and the passion was definitely contagiouswhen it came to my upbringing. I love to explore the world and see as much of God'sglorious creation (including PEOPLE and their unique cultures) as He allows me. I've beeninvolved with YWAM off and on since 2003. Each time I come back God takes me giantsteps forward in this amazing walk with Him. As I've opened up to Him and said "yes" to thecall, He has transformed me and my focus (Eph. 5:1-2--> "Imitate God, therefore, ineverything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following theexample of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma toGod.") My heart stirs within me for missions and servant hood. Both of these are standardshere in YWAM. I love being a part of a vision that encompasses the qualities for which I

strive. I am in a place where my strengths are not limited but sharpened and encouraged. God is alwayswithin reach and ready to impact an open heart and willingness to serve.

    Around the World DTS

It is with great pleasure that I share with you the current Around the World in 80 Days Discipleship TrainingSchool. We are well under way, and excited about the group of people that the Lord has gathered togetherfor this season. We have 35 Students from 8 nations and 11 wonderful staff. Gods hand has been directingthis school for some time now and we see the HUNGER of these students even early on.

Some themes the Lord has been highlighting are INTIMACY and VICTORY. We are pressing into this andseeking HIS face. I feel as our intimacy grows we will continue to grow in our walks of victory. Intimacy withthe Father is our greatest desire.

We will be sending 6 teams to 24 countries. The focus will be on justice and bringing the Kingdom of

Heaven to each country we journey. We are hoping to reach out to some new locations this year.

My hearts desire is that we will simply step into true intimacy with the Father. I long for this community tofall more in love with Jesus and to let His love transform us each day. It is only from this place that we caneven think of going out to the nations. It is in this place of intimacy that we are drawn to the nations.

    FATHERS LOVE CROSSROADS DTS

The past five months have been a wonderful journey for our first eight students and five staff. Our studentscame from many countries but the staff, consisting of Barry and Judy, Peter and Chris and Carolyn were allkiwis that have been associated with the Oxford base for many years. The heart of our school was todisciple the students in to the security of the Father's love, to find a resting place in His heart and tounderstand and enjoy their inheritance as sons and daughters of the Father. Our speakers taught andministered these truths in varied ways bringing a depth of understanding and revelation. Our school ranalongside the Backpackers DTS and the Earthcare DTS. We ran, not as one school, but three schools, sowe were called Holy Trinity, Oxford! This proved to be a very rich time for staff and students as we sharedspeakers some weeks, intercession, worship and rosters. In the middle of the lecture phase we spent awonderful two weeks in the Nelson area having lectures for one week from two local pastors, then the nextweek church serving. This time proved to be a great preparation for the outreach phase as we learned tofunction as a team. The first month of outreach was spent in Yangshuo, China where we were privileged todo friendship evangelism as well as training and equipping various groups from new believers to leadersfrom a small house church there. We taught and ministered on the Father's love and saw many people joinGod's family. The warmth of the people made up for the cold and lack of electricity and hot water at times. The second month was spent around the East Coast of the North Island in Ruatoria, Tokomaru Bay andGisborne where we enjoyed the hot sun, surf and the abundance of fresh fruit from the roadside...big juicypeaches and blackberry pies that were whipped up. Most of our meals were shared with locals and we wereable to build bridges between believers and non-believers. We were so grateful to God for giving us favourwith the people in that isolated area. After re-entry week back in Oxford we celebrated graduation with abeautiful meal shared with family and friends. Each student spoke about something significant that had

touched their heart during the school.... it was very special to see the growth in each of their lives. We as astaff are so grateful to the Father for His great love and grace shown to us all during the school. To God bethe glory!

    Backpackers DTS 09/10

They came, they travelled, they graduated. This year's DTS was another successful season of young

people running after their God. Three months were set aside in these students' lives to seek God in the

community of YWAM Oxford. Students spent their weekends staying in hostels, hiking the beautiful

mountains of New Zealand, and going surfing. All these activities were opportunities for us to encounter theglobal nomadic youth that travel the world in search of adventure, purpose, and identity. We bring the

message of Christ's redeeming love, and his plan for human kind while walking, surfing, eating, and living

beside these people. They are our peers, our countrymen, and our international community.

Our outreach phase focused more specifically on the nations of SE Asia (Cambodia, Thailand, Laos,

Vietnam), India, Nepal, New Zealand, and Fiji. A variety of cultures, climates, smells, languages and

experiences were had by the 22 students and 6 staff. We met travelers from all walks of life, and were able

to be the salt and light that Christ calls us to be. We were able to hand out bibles, pray with people to

receive Christ as Lord and Saviour, work amongst orphans in India, pray and engage in spiritual warfare for

the lost, and also learn how to function as a family and show the world what the body of Christ should act

    like.

Testimonies from BDTS"God showed me the truth behind His name 'El Elyon' - The Most High. Absolutely nothing happened out of

His sovereignty. He showed me His control overeverysituation. This was really personal for me during

outreach because He allowed me to have confidence in my prayers- with all that I requested, and all that I

could trust in Him for. Jesus showed me His true love for me, by interceding on my behalf! I can't expresshow much I've learned that He can be trusted- all because He delights in me. Jesus is ridiculous.. A serious

miracle worker!" - Gabriel : Staff

I didn't think DTS would change me at all but to my surprise I fell more and more in love with God

throughout my experience with DTS. It was a great life changing experience that I would recommend

    anyone doing! - Courtney

DTS gave me a taste of what Christianity should be, a loving sharing community, respectable staff who

practice humility, and lead by example, awesome speakers, amazing, powerful teaching, and most

importantly, I learned how to live a worry free life, no matter what happens, no matter if I go homeless when

I get home, or if I lose all my important stuff. God has everything under control, and as I found out, he

always has better things planned. I lose a good friend I gain 2 better ones, and no matter what, I know I will

always have WAY more than I need! - Kaison

First my impression was that this was something to do, cause my siblings did a DTS also. So following theirfootsteps, I chose a base and went to it and I pretty much wanted to go to New Zealand. Coming to YWAM I

was going to coast along, not thinking anything could change my problems and me. Little did I know God

was ready to smack me in the face with His love... or maybe it was His fist...? Anyway, during the first

worship we have on base, I find myself face down on the floor and I'm feeling God probably for the second

time in my life; so that really gets my attention, but Satan still has a hold on me. I had a real problem ofthinking everyone was out to get me and I automatically hated them; wanting them all dead. During the last

day of Mark Parker week, I find that all these feelings have just vanished; I didn't ask for them to be taken

away, but God just knew that it would destroy me, so He took it all away. So that is what God did in my lifeduring my DTS. I still have a huge obstacle in my life, but I believe in the long run God will help me over

come it. All right now stop reading my words and go read His! - Joel

Well lets see, coming to DTS showed me the world outside of my bubble. I now have a better idea of what

true worship is and I have a much better relationship with God since leaving. I learned what it feels like

to make love for others a priority over doing stuff I like to do. I made stronger relationships in a few short

months than I had made in my whole life. - Matthew

Doing my DTS was an amazing opportunity to step out in my faith. The teaching was of the highest qualitywith lecturers from around the world. Overall it was a life-changing experience, thank you! - Lydia

This is the part of the show where Ben comes out and convinces everyone in the whole wide world to do a

    DTS with YWAM.

But that would be rather silly wouldn't it? YWAM never changed anyone's life. Doing a DTS never made

anyone a better person. I know this guy, Jesus, who's into changing lives and healing hearts. If you follow

hard after Him you can't go wrong. YWAM Oxford is a great place to do that. He used my time there to heal

wounds that I didn't even know I had. He developed new passions and desires in my heart. He broadened

the scope of my understanding of His nature and character. I grew intimate with Him in ways that I didn't

even know were possible. Basically, it was a really good time. But don't take my word for it.

Heck, you're not doing anything useful with your life anyway, right? What have you got to lose? - Ben

Snowboarders DTS 2009The Ski + Snowboard DTS '09 school finished

with a wonderful celebration at our graduationon the 6th of November 2009 right here on the

YWAM Oxford base in our brand new facilities! From day one until the very last day of thisschool, we had one of the most enthusiasticgroups of staff and students to come our way, full of life and energy - eager to boldly speakup publicly about their love for the Lord. Godspoke to the leadership quite a lot aboutbringing in some fresh, young new speakers tothe school, and so we did! It is great to takerisks and follow the Lord as He calls us outinto new territory both spiritually and

physically. This year's school saw us getting more and more involved in the snowboard world, networking with Snowboarders for Christ in Christchurch, co-hosting a Rail Jam in the city, as wellas the New Zealand premiere of the OneYear snowboard evangelistic film, brought to us by JoelParker of Nations Foundation in the USA. We were able to connect up with Kelly Clark, an on-fireChristian snowboarder, attend the Burton NZ Open down in Queenstown, and bring even more ofthe light of Christ into the snowboard world. With joy, we were able to partner with Methven NewLife Church to host a weekly outreach called Dinner on the House to give free meals and hang outwith snowboarders from Mt Hutt each weekend. We were able to build amazing friendships, aswell as see some come to know Christ through this ministry! Praise the Lord! For the outreachphase, 5 teams were sent out into the nations, spreading Christ's message throughout Argentina,

Chile, Turkey, China, Kenya and Uganda! Teams came back overflowing with story after story ofGod's power and grace and truth spreading through these nations. God is on the move, and He isusing these young people! We are confident that the Lord will continue to grow and teach each ofthe graduated staff and students as they embark on the next chapter of their lives, in various partsof the globe. Please remember the Ski + Snowboard DTS in your prayers. We desire to radicallyobey the Lord's promptings for the next school, building on the current foundation, but alsopioneering new territory with fresh vision and joy! If you hear the Lord beckoning you, come jointhe crew here!

Leaders of CfMSAndrew, Angela, Brooke & Josiah - New Zealand

Andrew and Angela completed their DTS in Hong

Kong, as a newly married couple, in 1990. Andrewcompleted a School of Biblical Studies, in NZ, in

1992. As a family they have been involved in YWAM

Family Ministries, YWAM Tonga and have been in-

volved here at YWAM Oxford (in various roles) since

2005. Though the family has, over the years, lived in

numerous locations around New Zealand and

overseas, they now call North Canterbury home.

Andrew is a qualified Builder and has for the last 18 months overseen the major building projectthat the base has undertaken as well as overseeing the day to day operations of the base. 2010

will see him focusing his energy on specific projects as Projects Manager and he will, along with

Angela, pioneer a Construction for Missions School in October 2010. He continues to complete

papers for a Degree in Applied Theology, via distance.

Angela has served in various areas of administration within the office and as a qualified Teacher

she also works a few hours each week providing teaching support to students at a local school. In

her spare time (whatever that is) she organises the rest of the familys comings and goings and

likes to find space to read a good book (preferably on a veranda with a beach outlook).

Brooke (18) is planning to head to Canada in 2010 to be involved with ranches and programmes

that incorporate working with at-risk young people and horses. Her passion is connecting young

people with their Heavenly father through her love for horses and natural horsemanship

    techniques.

Josiah (16) is officially in his last year of home schooling, eagerly anticipating the day when he will

head out on his own DTS adventure! At this stage it looks like Europe may be calling.

Our familys calling is to equip the saints for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:12). Training, equipping and seeing others released into their full potential is our family DNA.

Kings Kids South IslandWell after a fantastic outreach during the Christmas/New Year break we have been contacting Churchs to

work with their leadership teams with Weekenders. This means we work alongside individual churches to

meet their needs and also teach the King's Kids principles of Time with God, Intercession, Heart Prep and

Prayer. In the middle of this we teach a few dances for all and work with youth with dramas at night as anextra, we then perform in the church on the Sunday and maybe somewhere public after the service. The

key to the Weekender is to work with the Ministry Leaders so the momentum continues. We had a get

together recently of the two outreach teams, great to see everyone. We then planned to perform together at

the Hill View Christian School Fair.

Coming up is an outreach in July, Specifics to come

Blessings to all, Juddy and Rachel, South Island Coordinators

Final wordsLet The World Know Me By Your Love

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a

child of God and knows God. -1 John 4:7

We live in such an incredible community. Not just within the walls of YWAM, but the town of Oxford. I

count this area as one of the greatest blessings. As I walk down the streets, I am filled with joy by the en-

dearing faces I pass, the melodious songs chirping through the air, and the breathtaking landscape. I have

become a part of something bigger than myself here in Oxford. I have snuggled right into this place and

consider it home. Yet in my comfort, I was recently struck with the downfall of this. In finding such a secure

location, I have become too cosy with my day-to-day tasks and misplaced my focus on reaching the lost.

Often, we can forget the needs and pain of those around us when we live in average communities, middle-

class areas, and safe neighbourhoods. I have passed by so many faces and only given cordial greetings orworse yet been too busy to give a greeting at all. There is pain everywhere. There are lost and desperate

souls in every community. I dont have to fly to a third-world country to fill a gap and meet a need. I can do

so right here in this dear little town.

Our lives should be defined by Christs love. Where we walk, when we walk, how we talk, how we

respond to people all reflects the One for which we live. Are we representing Him well? Do we wake with a

residing aim of meeting the needs of others or having our own needs met? What does it truly mean to catch

Gods infectious and enduring love for people? I pray this pencil-speck of time I have on earth is spent well

and spent loving others with Christs love.

We love because He first loved (1 John 4:19). He gave Himself for us as a sacrifice. We are called

to resemble Him; that means resembling His sacrificial love for each other. We have been given the perfectexample to live by. What are we waiting for? We must consciously actdaily. We have been given the truth.

It is our responsibility to respond.

May you hear Him say, 'Welldone, good and faithfulservant! You have been faithful with a few

things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' (Matt. 25:21)
