Parent Survey—Partnerships in Learning

Over the last week four students from each class in Stages 1, 2 and 3 have participated in a focus group with Mrs Eacott discussing their experiences with Learning From Home and transitioning back to face-to-face learning.

We would like to hear from you about your experiences with both. A survey was sent home today, and is available on the app, to explore our partnerships in learning during the recent changes to how education was delivered. We value you taking a little time from your busy day to provide us with this information so that together we may better support student learning and continue the strong partnership that was developed.

Please send the survey back to school by email or with your child by Wednesday 1 July.

Grounds improvement

We are continuing to make an appealing and functional environment for all students. New concrete around the play equipment (instead of mud) will provide more handball areas for the students and track less mud into classrooms.

Stay COVID safe

• Wash hands regularly and encourage your child to do so too.

• Maintain social distancing 1.5m.

• Have the COVID app on your phone.

Thank you to all parents who are assisting to make our school safe for everyone by only entering the school grounds when it is essential.

If you would like to be met at the gate by a Stage 3 student to assist your child in the mornings, please let the school know. Doing this instead of walking your child in will support us in keeping everyone safe.

Learning @ SWPS:

Showing school pride.

Next week we will be focusing on

showing school pride.

Showing school pride is the basis of

our school motto. It involves taking

ownership of our school and being

proud to be a member of the SWPS

community.

Student thinking may include:

• I am proud of our school!

• I am proud to be a part of our

school!

• What can I do to make our

school better?

• How can I help?

• We can all be proud today!

• I am lucky to go to SWPS!

Through showing school pride, SWPS

aims to help students take ownership

of our school.

What is an Opportunity Class?

Opportunity classes can provide intellectual stimulation by grouping together high potential and gifted students who may otherwise be isolated from a suitable peer group. These classes help students learn by using specialised teaching methods and materials. Parents apply when their child is in Year 4.

The placement process for opportunity class entry in 2021, including the Opportunity Class Placement Test, has

been delayed and changes have been made to the placement process for 2020 applicants only. These include:

o A new date for online applications. Parents must apply between Tuesday 9 June 2020 and Friday

26 June 2020. Late applications cannot be accepted.

o A new test date - Wednesday 16 September 2020.

o Principals will not be required to provide school assessment scores but are requested to verify the

information entered by parents.

o Placement in an opportunity class will be based solely on the results of the test.

o The illness/misadventure or appeals processes will not be available.

o The executive officer of the Team and the principal of the primary school with an opportunity class

will conduct the selection process.

Offers will be made to successful students overnight on 1 December 2020.

An intention to apply will come home with Year 4 students today. If you would like a booklet with further

information about this please ring the school or send a note in with your child.

For more information and to register and then apply please access the department’s website via https://

education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 .

Year 7 2021 Testing Day Students who have been accepted into Year 7 in 2021 at Wagga Wagga High School, are invited to attend the

Testing Day.

Thursday August 13 from 9:30am to 11:30am in Currie Hall (across the road from TAFE)

All materials (including writing materials) will be provided.

The morning will involve the students completing a Literacy and Numeracy test which will each be 45 minutes in

length.

At the conclusion of the tests, students will be given the opportunity to socialise with other students in their

cohort and will be given a snack.

The results from these tests will be used to place students in an appropriate class for 2021. Please note that these

tests are one element used for class placement and that other factors (including information from Primary Schools)

are taken into consideration for the formation of the Year 7 2021 classes.
