Inspiring Excellence through PRIDE Principal: Mr Peter Hickey Vere Street South Grafton NSW 2460 T: 02 6642 3388 F:02 6643 2065 [email protected] Yesterday we celebrated Grandparent’s Day with a lovely morning tea on our Infants Campus followed by classroom visits on both campuses and a BBQ lunch on our Primary Campus. Our students really enjoyed having their grandparents and families visit our school and we can never underestimate the very positive influence our seniors make in all of our lives. Our school was overflowing with our special guests on both campuses and our staff all commented on the large numbers in their rooms and the really positive vibe throughout our school. I received a number of very positive comments from our guests. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us. Congratulations to our AFL team who participated in a PSSA Knockout Gala Day last Thursday held at Coffs Harbour. The team played extremely well winning their first two games against Westlawn PS and Hastings Point PS . The team then played Coffs Harbour PS in the 3rd round and were defeated in a great game. Thanks to Mr Zacek for coaching this team, Mrs Warren and our parents who assisted with transport on the day. On Monday our two debating teams debated against Woolgoolga PS and Mullaway PS in the Premier’s Debating Challenge. Our Dolphins team had one debate defeating Mullaway PS with the topic being “That we should ban all ads for unhealthy things” and our team was the affirmative team. Our Kangaroo team had two debates, they defeated Mullaway PS with the topic being “That the government should encourage Australian girls to play contact sports by making it free” and our team was the affirmative team. In their second debate they were defeated by Woolgoolga PS with the topic being “That all school work should be done on computers” we were the negative team. The Kangaroo team have one more debate against Grafton PS and the Dolphins have two more debates both against Grafton PS. Congratulations to both teams on their excellent performances. Next week we celebrate NAIDOC Week with this year’s theme “Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work Together for a Shared Future”. We will be holding formal assemblies on Monday morning at 9.30am at the Primary Campus and 10.30am at the Infants campus to celebrate NAIDOC Week. At these assemblies we will have a guest speaker, our Aboriginal Dance Groups and Academy Choir will be performing and students who are representing our school at the NAIDOC Week Public Speaking competition will be presenting an element of their speeches. We invite our community to attend both of these assemblies. On Tuesday our Year 5 students are participating in NAIDOC games day at McKittrick Park which is organised by South Grafton High School. On Wednesday we have students participating in NAIDOC Public Speaking at Westlawn PS and on Thursday Our Aboriginal Dance Groups are performing at the BDM group depot near Mororo Bridge at Iluka. Our thanks to Mrs Lavery and Miss Taylor for organising our dancers and the NAIDOC assemblies.
