A message from the Premier Jay Weatherill

Food and wine is central to the South Australian way of life. We produce some of the finest

premium products in the world from our clean water, air and soil. Our practices are sustainable, and our food is produced with care and passion.

The State Government is committed to protecting, growing and sharing these qualities.

By focusing on one of our strategic priorities, Premium Food and Wine from our Clean Environment, we intend to build on South Australia’s reputation for quality food and wine that is sustainably produced and processed at the highest standards.

Our thriving food industry contributed $14.4 billion to the South Australian economy in 2012-13 and accounted for almost one in five of the State’s employed workforce.

Ultimately, our goal is to further enhance the position and profile of South Australian premium food and wine both globally and locally.

By working together, government and industry can ensure that the vital and dynamic South Australian food industry is at the forefront to buyers worldwide, particularly in markets in mainland China, Hong Kong and Japan.

I encourage all businesses involved in in our State’s food industry to read this booklet and enter the 2014 South Australian Food Industry Awards Program.

By doing so you will help ensure an even stronger connection between leading food business and consumers, and recognise outstanding achievements of one of South Australia’s most important industries.enter online at www.safoodawards.com.au

An independent application and judging process is in

place for the South Australian Food Industry Awards Program to retain credibility, independence and quality of the process for the South Australian food industry, and Food SA will not be involved in the judging.

Each Award category comprises an individual judging panel with

two representatives appointed from industry and government and an independent chair is appointed for each panel. All judges are selected for their knowledge and experience and also for their willingness to commit their time to the South Australian Food Industry Awards Program.

Written submissions and interviews are scored using a

points system to ensure the highest quality, credibility and a fair outcome.

All applications will be initially assessed based on the written component of their application. Applicants who are shortlisted will be judged on both the written submission (25% of total score) and interview/site visit (75% of total score).

All applications received are treated as strictly confidential, and the selection of finalists and winners in each category by the judging panel is final.

2. Applicants may then be short listed and selected for a site visit by the judging panel, which gives entrants the opportunity to support the written application through an interview, tour of the premises and provision of supporting documentation.

3. Following the site visit, the judging panel will select finalists and a winner for each category, however the judging panel reserves the right to not award any finalists or winner in a given category.
