500 AD - 1600’s : More Banto tribes migrated into South Africa in small groups across different regions.1652 : Colonisation of SA began with the Dutch - Jan van Riebeeck landed in the Cape Colony.

1688 : The French Huguenots embarked on the Cape of Good Hope to South Africa.

1830 –1840’s : “Groot Trek” commenced - migration & exploration into South Africa.

1820 : 1st British Settlers emigrated to the Cape Colony in order to grow British empire.

1838 – 1879 : Ongoing war-battles between Zulu ‘s against theVoortrekkers & other Banto tribes.

1899 – 1902 : Anglo Boer War – Battle for independence for South Africans from the British empire.

1910 : South Africa becomes its own Union for the 1st time – foreign British rule decommissioned.

1948 – 1994 : Apartheid ensued through racial segregation. Lead to sanctions against SA.

500 BC : The Banto people & Khoi-San started migrating to sub-Saharan Africa from North Africa.

1994 : South Africa has its 1st democratic election, with Nelson Mandela elected president.

SA wine industry is older than 350 years. The Pinotage wine type was founded in SA.

Wine farms contribute to SA exports & tourism. Wine farming is only practiced in the Cape

Winelands.
