Seva Darshan Kuwait has always been in the forefrontof being a catalyst in introducing path breaking communityservice initiatives in Kuwait. After many days of effort
Seva Darshan volunteers have announced the launchingof the Kuwait chapter of Vijnana Bharathi (NationalScience Movement), Science International Forum on04th of November 2014. The editorial team wishes all thesuccess in this upcoming important endeavor of the Indiancommunity in Kuwait.
The Nation celebrated National Unity day on 31st ofOctober in memory of our great freedom ghter SardarVallabhai Patel. The Run for Unity event was hosted bythe Central government to send a message to the Nationon the contributions of this great icon. For a citizen of aNation to be proud about his country he must remember
the contributions of the previous generations in building upwhat the country is today. Political compulsions have alwayshidden away the many important events in our history thatshaped our Nation. Sardar Patels effort in uniting ourNation geographically is one of immense importance. Whileemotionally, religiously, culturally and as a civilization wehave been on entity for thousands of years, politically weremany principalities grouped together. It was Patel who wasentrusted the responsibility of meeting all the kings andgetting them to join the new independent India. Patel is also
credited with establishing the all India Civil services as weknow it today. Our Nation should never divide and twistour legacy and history according to ideologies and politicalinterests.
While we dedicate certain days to remind the nation ofthese contributions and built statues of these great leadersacross the nation, we need to also have a thought of themighty task before us in taking the nation out of povertyand underdevelopment. The Swaach Bharat campaignhas truly caught the imagination of intellectuals and peopleacross barriers like, state and politics. Likewise we needa campaign to improve the quality of life amongst ourcitizens. This alone will ensure an able generation thatwill vigorously pursue our ambition to raise our nation tothe pinnacle of glory, Param Vaibhavam. There is a greatpolitical change happening in the Nation with changingvoting patterns and policies. Our citizens must be ready toaccept the change and challenge.
A lot more is expected from the NGOs and ordinarycitizens. Across the world our professionals are well known. Our diaspora and leaving their footprints in every nationthey reside by their hard work and character. But why doesour Nation still have to be projected as a Nation of poverty, underdevelopment, political uncertainty and a terrorist hub.The people of India need to stand united and work tirelesslyto change the face of our Nation.
Violence is never a way to express your disapproval inpublic. But at the same time an effective and strong publicreaction is required at many instances when the commonlyaccepted public behavior is openly deed creating a senseof restlessness in the society. Moral values are describedby the society. These evolve over the years and our societyhas always accepted changes that have been benecial to usand have helped develop healthy relationships and bondage.Moral policing is word now commonly used in the media. But dont we start moral policing from our homes whenwe dene the behavior of our family members and whendene how we should be. If the society develops a level of
understanding of what is right and good, there is no needfor any kind of policing. This is what we should aim at.The society in not against love, kissing or sex. But thereare limits to which this can be expressed in public. And weshould respect this right of the society.
The effort put by these youngsters must be channelizedin improving the condition of the downtrodden of oursociety. Where is this anger when so many cases of sexualexploitations, child labour, caste injustices are beingreported across the nation? The youth of today must takethe message of unity and development of the Nation to thevillages. They can surely inspire the citizens to stand for the
Nation and fulll the dreams of thousands of people whodied for our Nation.
We wish all the contestants of Gokulotsavam 2014 andgrand success.

The news on television about a mother marryingoff her 15 year old girl child who was the best studentin her school, just because the child was harassed
by some goons every time she went out to defecateas there was no sanitation facility at home, set methinking about the girl child, sanitation and health.
Let me tell you that the position of a girl child andwomen in Kerala which has 100% literacy is much
better that anywhere in India, because almost everyhouse in Kerala has toilets. It is when she goes outto work, she nds that the work place does not have
proper toilets, and when the child goes to schoolshe nds that the toilets are non- existent, and thetoilets existing does not have water or cleanliness. The present Government with the help of media andcitizens have taken up this matter very seriously andis set to rectify the problem. Kudos to the media forhaving highlighted the basic problem.
Indian women in many villages is supposed tocover her face and head in front of others, so howcan she conduct her ablutions by removing her innergarments, in public? Dignity of a women suffersmuch if there is no sanitation facility at or nearhome. Our present government has understood thatthe need of the hour is to make arrangements for
building toilets with water facility in every village, where every community can do their ablutionsin private. We should try to help the governmentin carrying out this venture, and also educate theeconomically and socially backward girls in India
about hygiene and about keeping the environmentclean.
The Government is planning to launch "BETIBACHAO BETI PADHAO" scheme in 100 districtsacross the country . The scheme aims at making girlsindependent both socially and nancially.
The girl child in some districts of India are killedwhile still in womb, or are abandoned immediately
because of socio-economic reasons, even in this 21stcentury. To empower women, the Government has
allocated Rs.100 Crores, for the ambitious schemesin union budget. The Ministry of Women and Childdevelopment is working on this project in tandemwith other Ministries such as Health and Education.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
Beti bachao, beti padhao scheme will soon take offacross 100 districts which have the worse girl- childsex ratio.
"It is a shame that while the county has emerged asa major player among emerging market economies, the apathy towards girl child is rampant in many
parts" remarks Shri. Arun Jailtley Ministry ofFinance. The child sex ratio has drastically dropped
(0-6 years) to 919 girls for every 1000 boys, in 2011,which is the lowest since independence. Year- 2012Unicef report ranked India 41st among 195 countriesin this regard.
All best wishes to Sri. Kailash Sathyarthi andMiss. Malala Yousef for standing up for the rightsof children, and especially for Sri.Kailash for hiswill power in the face of such resistance. Everychild should be educated on the values of mankind, the need to respect women, and to understand that
girls have the same right as boys in every eld. Ifeel that the "Dowry Prohibition Act" should bestrictly implemented with some changes, and actionagainst wrong doers should be immediate. The girlchild should be given equal rights in property as her
brothers, then the killing of girl -child would stop toa great extent.
West- Bengal has a system of enabling cashtransfers at periodic intervals for the child's education. In Punjab, Pregnant Women were registered in therst Trimester, so that the authorities could follow
up and monitor cases of feticides, and in Tamilnadu,Amma Baby Care Kit encourages institutionaldeliveries. The entire country can be rid of its stigmaof being a country ridden with atrocities againstwomen. So it is high time every girl- child in thewomb and outside is protected.
So to conclude, if every village and everyDistrict in India has proper sanitation facilities, health institution, education facilities and properimplementation of Government schemes like theabove mentioned ones, then and then only can we
eradicate the menace of Rape, Feticide, Dowrydeaths, and also infectious diseases.
Jai Hind...........

As India cheered and clapped at the incredible
success of Indias Mars mission, certain images from
the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)
centre made me ponder upon something other than
the red planet. Dressed up in formal and traditional
silk sarees, some ladies were congratulating each
other with great gusto. Who were they? Were they
among the elite team of scientists and engineers
who were behind the extraordinary success of
Mangalyaan? Yes, and it would be no exaggeration
to state that today they are rated among the worlds
best!
To be an achiever, you dont have to look different.
In fact, greatness lies in the simplicity of demeanor...
Social media started ashing comments and cheers
at the presence of so many women at the centre. A
little research told me that women comprise 20 per
cent of ISROs entire workforce, and ten per cent of
the total staff is female engineers.
Why are we surprised? Maybe because we all
tend to compartmentalise gender roles, no matter
how modern and advanced we are. Actually,
we have forgotten our own history. Right from
ancient times, women in our country have always
been with it. Women of the Vedic period (circa
1500-1200 BCE) were epitomes of intellectual and
spiritual attainments. The Vedas have volumes to say
about these women, who both complemented andsupplemented their male partners. Four signicant
names from the Vedic period that come to mind are
Ghosha, Lopamudra, Sulabha Maitreyi, and Gargi.
Women have made important contributions in
all walks of life and made inroads into new elds
like engineering and information technology. Of
the women science graduates, around 88 per cent of
the science degree holders are in pure science, 8 per
cent in medicine and 3 per cent in engineering and
technology.
There has been a recent spurt of women joining
the engineering and information technology elds.
The eld of biotechnology has revolutionized
the industrial growth of the world. In India,
Kiran Mazumdar Shaw is an example for women
entrepreneurs to follow and emulate. Kiran, a biotech
entrepreneur and CEO of Biocon India group, is one
of the many scientists India should be proud of. She
received many awards, the most noteworthy being the
Padma Shri in 1989 from the Government of India.
She was accorded a very prestigious assignment as
Chairperson of the Vision Group on Biotechnologyto draw up the States Biotech Policy. She is on the
Financial Times top 50 women in business list. As
of 2014, she is listed as the 92nd most powerful
woman in the world by Forbes.
Dr Indira Hinduja produced Indias rst
scientically documented test tube baby in India
in 1986. She pioneered the Gamete Intra Fallopian
Transfer (GIFT) technique resulting in the birth of
India's rst GIFT baby on January 4, 1988. She has
rejected many opportunities to settle abroad so that
she can serve her nation. She was also the recipient
of the Padma Shri award in 2011. Do you remember
Asima Chatterjee (1917-2006) who was the rst
woman DSc (1944, Calcutta), FASc, FNA, Khaira
Professor of Chemistry, Calcutta University. She
was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, and was the
rst lady president of the Indian Science Congress.
The list is endless, but the message is the same. It is
all about hard work and diligence. It is easy to fall
prey to the stereotypes. If there is a will to excel, there are no shackles in the world that can hold us
back. If you dare to break free, maintaining your
dignity at the same time, the society will certainly
regard and reward you.
Ladies, dont be afraid to dream big. Never give
up. If situations seem too tough to handle, read up
on those women who fought the world to achieve
their dreams and succeeded. Shakti does not mean
physical strength. A womans power lies in the
strength of her soul, her convictions and her will. You are tough where it counts. As they say: When
the going gets tough, the tough get going.
Let us Take the Lead
Dream Big, Ladies

Vichar Bharati and Yuva Darshan, Kuwait inassociation with Indian Central School hosted a career
guidance talk by Sri. Santosh Taneja, a renowned
social activist and founder member of the civil service
training academy Samkalp based in New Delhi on
Road Map to Indian Civil Service explaining various
job opportunities to serve the nation as a proud and
responsible civil administrator. Sharing the few moments
spent with a man dedicated to nation.
Sir, what was the motivation behind the birth of
Samkalp?
The feel of oneness and a national spirit and
commitment should be built in a person at initial stage
itself. Samkalp tries to identify and guide students who
can contribute towards nation building through civil
services and help them inculcate true Indian values and
ethos. If one administrator comes out well prepared, he
/she can bring tremendous changes. Just imagine many
with such quality. The realization of the importance of
such a social and national commitment made us involve
ourselves in such an act and Samkalp was born.
How do you compare the caliber and commitment
of our younger generation?
Both matters a lot in this profession. I would add, caliber
is even less important. It is the commitment to achieve
the satisfaction force anyone to take the responsibility.
As mentioned in our prole, we try to imbibe the values
of honesty, integrity, compassion, social commitment,
excellence, foresightedness, determination, devotion to
duty, loyalty and dedication to the national cause andthe leadership qualities and management skills besides
innovative thinking.

A notion exist on civil service that it is a risky job.
It is absolutely wrong. Once the aspirants are
completely prepared mentally and ethically, there is
nothing to worry. He/she can perform well as a civil
servant once that courage and condence is developed.
Rather, I would say, it is the safest job.
In that case the orientation has to be given to parents
who compel kids to pursue other professions?
Pursuing any profession or taking up any subject forhigher studies does not matter in civil service. Actually
Indian needs bureaucrats from all faculties. It is not
about taking up any other profession as earning. It is
about joining civil service with a clear objective and a
strong backing of academic specialization in various
faculties including MBBS, Engineering and Chartered
Accountancy.
What is the basic criteria for pursuing Indian
Civil Service?
Basic criteria is the passion to be a committed and
responsible citizen, a passion to be serve nation. From
past experience I have noticed that there are three
common factors among the successful aspirants, an IQ
above average, passion and a strong will and strength to
work hard.
What is Samkalps role. How Samkalp adds to the
effort of an aspirant ?
Samkalp rst creates the awareness. The we provide
proper guidance and counseling and further, if they need,
we provide coaching. The results and the acceptance of
Samkalp products among the pass outs give us condence
on this path. Samkalp strives to install value in all the

For 16 year old Dhuvuri Rohini Pratyusha, (Student of Grade 11 studying
in Indian Educational School, Kuwait.) a letter from the Prime Minister
Shr. Narendra Modi for her humanitarian efforts to collect 2.15 lakhs of
Indian Rupee for the ood ravaged inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir, was
a thrilling and proud moment.
She had taken up the project on her own, when she came to rst know
of the horric damage caused by the oods in the state through the newschannels and various news paper reports. Jammu and Kashmir had been a
state which she had visited and few months back during her vacation. The
warmth of the people and beauty of the state had so engrossed her mind that
she was devastated when she came to know the natural disaster.
With support from her parents and her school, she personally visited the
houses of many Indian expatriate in Kuwait and personally appealed to them
for funds to contribute to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. The expatriate
community as always, extended whatever possible help they could.
Her efforts have been accepted as an eye opener for the student community and youngsters of today's world. Her actions are truly inspiring. Below is an interview done with her when the students of Yuva Darshan Kuwait
and Vichar Bharati Kuwait honoured her for her noble work.
What motivated you to take up this noble
attempt?
I went to Jammu and Kashmir this summer. The
people are as beautiful as the place itself.
Despite the fact that they were not very well off, they
were kind and helpful. I developed a strong connectionwith both the place and its people. When I heard about the
J&K oods, I felt really disturbed and I thought I had to
do something for my fellow Indian brothers and sisters.
The only solution before me was a Donation Drive, and
so did I embark on my mission.
How was the community response? Did you face
any negative answers from the people you met?
The Indian community in Kuwait is very supportiveand empathetic. The response I received from it was good.
I wouldnt say "very good because some people were
apprehensive about the donations. Regardless, I would
like to thank everyone who contributed to this noble cause.
People from different economic backgrounds offered
their support, but I feel that the amount contributed does
not matter. This gesture of the many Indians and a few
non-Indians residing in Kuwait is indeed touching.
How did you manage to do this campaign in between
your studies and other activities? An inspiration tomany children who always complain of lack of time
for any kind of extra curricular activities.

With the goal of helping my fellow Indians in my
mind, the question of time never arose. As soon as I used
to come back from school, I rushed out to meet people. I
spend all my evenings in doing so for about two weeks.
Even while dining outside I communicated with the other
customers at the restaurants without any difdence.
What is your life goal? Who do you aspire to be?
It is tough to express my ambitions in just a few
words. However the most precise answer would be -I
want to be a responsible human being and contribute
to society not only through social work but also by
inventing something in the future. I have learnt a lot from
my wonderful parents, who are very helpful and socially
outgoing.
What kind of cooperation did you expect and
receive from the Embassy of India in Kuwait?
The Indian Embassy was very responsive; they
appreciated my thought and motivated me to carry out the
collection drive. They helped me deposit the collection
in the PMRF.
Are you content with what you have done? Do
you have any ideas for the future where you could
organize such campaigns in a bigger canvas?
No, service to mankind and society is a continuous
process, I feel. I am prepared to serve the society in
different ways and at different levels.
How did you accept the news that the Prime
Minister of India Shri. Modi has sent you an
appreciation letter?
Ecstatic and awed. This was unexpected. I feel happy
that this deed of supporting my fellow Indians in J&Kby raising money was recognized. I now feel more
responsible. Shri Narendra Modi's recognition of my
effort has motivated me to continue to help society in
many ways, as is the motto of Sevadarshan. I feel proud
of our truly great and ebullient Prime Minister. India
is lucky to have such a scrupulous leader. For him to
recognize this deed itself shows how active, dedicated
and updated our Prime Minister is.
As a representative of the younger generation how
do you see the new initiatives taken by the Indiangovernment and how do you think the younger
generation can contribute?
The Government, since its inception, has taken lots of
positive measures and initiated much needed campaigns
such as the "SWACCH BHARAT" campaign. It is very
transparent and public-friendly. The government under
the able leadership of Shri Narendra Modi is doggedly
pursuing its endeavor of inspiring and helping Indias
youth reach greater heights. This wonderful turn of
events instills condence in the youth of today, for wefeel encouraged to contribute to our motherland.
