    Flexible Circuit Board Repairing Keep the temperature of the soldering iron around 270 C

    during repairing.

    NOTE BEFORE REPAIRINGThis set is possible to diagnose the repair part by doing a special

    connection.

    See technical addition of service manual for the details.

    NOTE THE MAIN BOARD REPLACINGWhen the MAIN board is replaced, the writing work of data is

    necessary.See technical addition of service manual for the details.

    When IC1001/2001/2002/2003/2005/5001 is damaged, replace the

    complete MAIN board.

    UNLEADED SOLDERBoards requiring use of unleaded solder are printed with the lead-

    free mark (LF) indicating the solder contains no lead.

    (Caution: Some printed circuit boards may not come printed with

    the lead free mark due to their particular size)

    : LEAD FREE MARK

    Unleaded solder has the following characteristics. Unleaded solder melts at a temperature about 40 C higher

    than ordinary solder.

    Ordinary soldering irons can be used but the iron tip has to be

    applied to the solder joint for a slightly longer time.

    Soldering irons using a temperature regulator should be set to

    about 350 C.Caution: The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away if

    the heated tip is applied for too long, so be careful!

    Strong viscosityUnleaded solder is more viscou-s (sticky, less prone to flow)

    than ordinary solder so use caution not to let solder bridges

    occur such as on IC pins, etc.

    Usable with ordinary solderIt is best to use only unleaded solder but unleaded solder mayalso be added to ordinary solder.

    Installing the unit

    Abo

    (NV-U70 only)

    ut the main power switchBefore installation, switch on the main power bysliding the POWER switch to the ON position.

    Thereafter, you can turn the unit on/off bypressing ?/1on the top right of the unit.

    Notes Keep main power on unless the unit is not to be

    used for more than 3 months. If you switch off the main power, it may take time to

    receive GPS signals when switching on a gain.

    About the suction mountBefore you start, choose a position on thewindshield that is clearly visible to the driverwithout obstructing the road view, and make sureall surfaces are clean and dry.

    The optional cradle NVA-CU3 can also beinstalled following the steps below.

    Notes Install the unit in a safe place where it does not

    interrupt the GPS signal. Detach and reattach the cradle regularly as cup

    suction is affected by high/low temperature,extended use, etc.

    Be sure to keep a distance between the cradle anddashboard when installing.

    1 Attach the cradle on the windshield.Figure example of completed cradleinstallation

    Follow steps1-3to complete.

    1Clean and dry the surface of the suctioncup.

    2Press the center of suction cup firmlyagainst the windshield to remove theremaining air inside it, then press the lever.

    3Holding the left knob*, loosen the rightknob and set the approximate verticalangle, then retighten.*The left knob does not turn.

    Check that the installation method complieswith local traffic laws and regulations beforeinstalling and operating the unit.The unit can either be installed on awindshield, or a dashboard with the suppliedmounting plate and screws.

    If you want to fix the cradle on thewindshield permanentlyThe suction cup is affected in high/lowtemperatures and may come off. If you wantto fix the cradle on the windshieldpermanently, use the supplied adhesive tapeon the suction cup.

    If the bottom of the cradle touches thedashboardAttach the supplied pad for protection.Cut the pad to the appropriate size beforeattaching.

    NoteThe adhesive tape is difficult to remove onceapplied.

    2 Connect the cradle to the car cigarettelighter socket.

    1Plug the car battery adapter into the DC IN5.2V jack at the rear of the cradle.

    2 Insert the other end of the car batteryadapter fully into the car cigarette lightersocket.

    *Lights up when you turn the ignition on afterinstallation.

    NoteDepending on the size or shape of the cigarettelighter socket, connection may not be possible.

    3 Align the 2 slots on the underside ofthe unit with the tabs on the cradle,then push to snap the unit into place.

    Be sure the unit is securely locked in thecradle (2 clicks).

    4 Loosen the center knob, fine adjustthe angle so you can view the monitor

    properly, then retighten.

    TipYou can also connect the unit to an outlet using thesupplied AC power adapter.

    1 Holding the unit, press the RELEASEbutton of the cradle.

    The unit pops out of the cradle.

    2 Take the unit out of the cradle.

    About the installation on thedashboard (NV-U70 only)

    NoteThe adhesive tape is difficult to remove once applied,and the screw will mark the dashboard. Choose aposition carefully before installation.

    1 Choose a position to attach themounting plate on the dashboard, thenclean and dry the surface of thedashboard.

    2 Remove the cover of the adhesivetape, then firmly press down themounting plate on the dashboard.

    3 Secure the supplied 3 screws of themounting plate using a screwdriver.

    4 Attach the cradle on the mountingplate.

    1Clean and dry the surface of the suctioncup.

    2Press the center of the suction cup firmlydown on the mounting plate, then press thelever.

    3Holding the left knob*, tighten the rightknob.*The left knob does not turn.

    If you want to fix the cradle on the mountingplate more securely to prevent risk ofdropping, use the supplied adhesive tape onthe suction cup.Follow steps 2 to 5 of About the suctionmount, to complete the installation.

    Installing the TMC aerial(NV-U70T/U50T only)Install the TMC aerial to obtain trafficinformation from RDS-TMC (Traffic MessageChannel).

    1 Plug the TMC aerial cord into the TMCaerial jack on the left side of thecradle.

    2 Attach the end suction cup to thewindscreen, then attach the othersuction cup so as the cord forms 2

    straight lines.

    1. OUTLINENecessary following function can be used by service by executing

    the static test mode.

    1. Version display

    2. Diagnosis function

    3. Touch panel test

    4. Display test

    5. Audio test

    6. RDS module test and GPS module receive data display

    2. SETTING THE TEST MODE1. The main unit is put on the cradle for test mode.

    Note: Confirm the method of obtaining the cradle for test mode to eachheadquarters.

    2. Insert the AC adaptor in the cradle for test mode.Note: Testmode is not set when inserting the AC adaptor in the main unit.

    3. Turn on the power switch, and turn on the power.

    When test mode is set first, 4-3-2. Touch panel calibration is

    performed.

    Refer to 4-3-2. Touch panel calibration for details.

    3. RELEASING THE TEST MODETurn off the power switch, and turn off the power.

    4. OPERATION OF THE TEST MODETest mode is operated by touching the screen.

    4-1. Version DisplaySerial No. of the main unit, Version of system and application, file

    information of navigation system and map are displayed.

    4-2. Diagnosis Function

    Content of screen display:

    4-2-1. Diag1. NOR

    When NOR on the screen is selected, and the EXEC button is

    touched, NOR flash (IC2003) is diagnosed.

    When OK is displayed in the first line, NOR flash (IC2003) is

    normal.

    The SUM value of NOR flash (IC2003) is displayed in the second

    line.

    2. DOC

    When DOC on the screen is selected, and the EXEC button is

    touched, Disk On Chip (IC2005) is diagnosed.

    When - H1 CHIP_ID Test:Pass - H1 IPL Test :Pass is displayed,

    Disk On Chip (IC2005) is normal.

    3. KEY

    When KEY on the screen is selected, and the EXEC button istouched, the I/1 and [VOICE/POSITION]keys of the main unit

    are diagnosed.

    The check box corresponding to each key reacts when the I/1 and

    [VOICE/POSITION]keys of the main unit are pushed.

    4. RDS

    When RDS on the screen is selected, and the EXEC button is

    touched, RDS communication circuit is diagnosed.

    When OK is displayed in the first line, RDS communication

    circuit is normal.

    5. GPS

    When GPS on the screen is selected, and the EXEC button is

    touched, GPS communication circuit is diagnosed.

    When OK is displayed in the first line, GPS communication

    circuit is normal.

    4-2-2. Radio mutingON/OFF of NAVI ATT is switched.

    4-2-3. BatteryThe voltage of the lithium battery of the main unit is displayed.

    4-3. Touch Panel Test

    Content of screen display:

    4-3-1. Touch panel testThe Touch Panel Test button is touched, touch panel test screen is

    displayed.

    White point is displayed in the part touched on screen.

    The coordinates in the part touched at the last are displayed in the

    lower right of the screen.

    Value of upper: X axis (The left end is 0)

    Value of lower: Y axis (The up end is 0)

    To exit from this mode, touch same point on the screen twice quickly.

    4-3-2. Touch panel calibrationThe Start calibration button is touched, touch panel test screen is

    displayed.

    This mode is a mode adjusted to match the touch position to the

    screen coordinates.

    When test mode is set first, this mode is performed.

    When the calibration file exists, the pop up screen of the confirmation
