It all starts with how much space you have at the front or back where you want a landscaped look
to complement the style of your house. Always remember that any landscaping is an extension of
your house.
That considered, you can move on to thinking of the type of landscape. Here are a few ideas:
The overall layout can be flat, with well ordered and divided plots of grassy lawns intersected by
regular pavement and curb for the classic look. Add border hedges for the walkway with a
flowering shrub interspersed here and there for a neat, clean look.
Instead of straight lines and rectilinear approaches, adopt the flowing, wave look and this creates
an air of charm and warmth to the same space with a hedge of flowering shrubs lining your
house wall exteriors and a climbing, flowering vine here and there.
Before After
If you want something different, go for a rocky waterfall with a small rock pond, fringed by
small shrubs and a sloping grassy knoll in the near distance. This does require effort but when
you have a Temecula Landscape Contractor in charge of design and execution, everything can be
picture perfect.

Yet another idea is the minimalist Haiku approach of Japanese rock garden where each small
rock is selected carefully for its shape, color and texture and blended with the others to create a
small area of interest, possibly in a corner or smack in the middle of your garden.
Somehow, flat areas may look neat and well ordered but do have limited appeal. In this case, you
can consider an undulating landscape of grass dunes with shallows ending in small pools of
water or shrubbery. Start with small sizes at the entrance way and then you can gently raise the
height of each dune as the house approaches. A slope here and a slope there can also be a lot of
fun for kids since they love to roll down and play hide and seek.
Before After
If you have admired the terraced rice fields of South East Asia, the same look can be achieved in
your garden by a trusted Temecula Landscape contractor, using rich carpeted grass instead of
paddy and a profusion of flowering shrubs at several points.
If your house and surrounding areas are large enough you can even think of a castle and moat
idea, your house surrounded by a small water body populated by water lilies and gold fish and
grassy banks.
Anything is possible, from spare, grassy lawns and curbs with nothing much else to full bodied
gardens with blooms of every kind occupying each square yard. Think and get your landscaper to
translate it into reality or just tell him the looks you wish to achieve and leave it all to him.
