Photo by Luke Knief Summer brings many good things. If you live on the East Coast, however, you know that waves are not always one of the perks. Flat spells peppered with knee-high mornings are the norm. Don’t let the lack of juice put your surfing on hold. These shapes are made especially for flying in small waves. They are designed to drive through sloppy, slow sections and release easily where a chip would sag. At Solid, we work to create an unreal board that works in realistic conditions. Where many shapers are turning to machines and homogeneity, Dan O’Hara offers the alternative: craftsmanship and concept. Each board is made with specific goals, and has its potential tested rigorously by team riders and loyal customers. From the humble beginnings in 2004, Solid has aimed to offer personalized service and an innovative approach to designing unique boards for the individual. And though we offer over twenty models to date, these five are for surfers looking to continue progressing despite the limitations of uninspiring waves.

Sling Blade

The Sling Blade is made for slicing knee-high dribble to a foot overhead sheet glass. With plenty of release and down the line speed, the Sling Blade will throw tail and win heats. The high performance silhouette hides slightly more foam than the eye detects, which is accounted for on the rails and tail. This board is responsive and snappy: great in mush but handles when it’s pumping. Ride it as a thruster or get the tri/quad option to supercharge your sessions. Shaper Comments:

- Fuller tail and hips give the board the ability to have more surface area in the back half without compromising performance.

- Quick rail transition gives the straighter rails a point to break free. - Deep single concave standard for speed. - Ride this board 0-2" shorter than your thruster.

Sasquash 2.0

The second generation Sasquash is one of our strongest shortboard hybrids. The concept is to redistribute the foam of your performance thruster (shorter, wider, thicker) and kick it up with a skate-tail. This thing paddles and handles like magic in gutless conditions. The Sasquash will bounce in and out of turns on even the weakest sections, and decrease the effort involved with connecting through flat spots. Shaper Comments:

- Fuller rail, drawn out volume, wider and thicker tail. - As a 5'7 this board has same volume as your 6'2 chip. - Features a deep single concave through the whole board, allowing for

a little extra rocker without losing drive.

Newman

Modern day necessity in any quiver, this is a magic carpet. Imagine your everyday shortboard, smash the nose down, cut about 3-4 inches off the tail, and this is what you'll get. Deep single concave through the bottom—as if this thing needs to go any faster. Sharp rail to power down the line and fly off the bottom, sharp tail to pivot and break free for turns. Insane board for easy paddling, mushy waves and hucking airs. Like something you’d find in Dane Reynold’s garage. Shaper Comments:

- Low entry rocker and fairly kicked tail rocker makes it plane incredibly well.

- Ride this board 2-4" shorter than your thruster.

With EPS construction your board will stay together longer. Longer life means more surfing and less foam in landfills. Nick Power, enjoying the benefits of living greener. Photo by Luke Knief.

Butter Knife

Foolproof shape for summer. The Butter Knife is the ultimate balance between a fat tail and a narrow shortboard nose. Literally sticks to your feet through the completion of maneuvers. The board takes advantage of the fact that your body weight is over the back half of the board by adding some volume and width to the tail. Quad fins and an ideal rocker yield unrestricted response. The Butter Knife will light up your surfing in crummy waves with optimum release and balanced foam distribution. Shaper's Comments:

- Tail is 11" wide to fit your foot as far back as possible. - Unique deck concave to keep your feet sunken into the board, like a

skateboard deck, which compliments the board’s wide outline and keeps it from getting away from you on maneuvers. Lower center of gravity equals more stability.

- Board has a single through double through vee bottom. - Ride this board 3-6" shorter than your thruster.

Spork

What looks like a UFO will fly through fast sections. The concept is to generate the most drive out of a tight little board that fits in small curves. With a 5'7 we have achieved the drive of a 6'4 round pin by adding a super deep single concave all the way through the tail, small tail channels, and scooting the back two fins of the quad set further back. The moon tail also works by adding more bite and pivot points on this wider tail. There is a fair amount of rocker, as the single concave is so deep that it lowers the stringer rocker, keeping the board from plowing. This board is a standout in lots of conditions, but really turns on for advanced surfers on a wave that demands down the line surfing. Shaper Comments:

- Meant to speed down the line in points and walled-up surf. - Outline is derived from a rounded fish nose and a semi-gun round pin

tail cut off 10" from the end of the template. - Ride this board 2-7" shorter than your thruster.
