Solar power is no longer the energy of the future, it’s the energy for now. As power cost increase almost 5% each year we have to start looking at alternative solutions to our power bill problems. While it seems like a large investment to install a solar panel system on your roof it is nothing compared to the return on investment that you are going to receive. On our radio show, Comfort Is Cool, this week I talked to Wolfgang who has been working in the solar industry for five years now and he discussed some of the great advantages of investing in that solar system. • You see an immediate return on investment, the second you flip that switch you are already offsetting your power consumption and in turn lowering you power bill. • With an average of 10% return on your investment of a Solar System it is one of the best places to put you money in today’s economy. • It increases the value of your home. Appraisers will add to your home the value that the solar panels bring to your home over all, not just the purchase price. In turn, your home is appraised for more. Wolfgang used a great example to explain to people why installing solar into your home makes sense. Do you own your home or rent? [Own] – Why? [Because it makes more sense to invest in a home that just give money away in renting] So then I ask you, why rent your power when you can own it? For residential homes, the average solar panel system creates an average of $125.00 / month in power, some systems create more! When power is gathered from the panels it feeds into your electrical panel, if that power is not used or needed at the time it feeds into the grid through your power meter, in turn crediting your meter for the power that you are supplying to the overall grid. So not only could your power bill be less or even nothing, you could be earning credits for if/when you do need to pull from the power company. A common misconception when it comes to solar in Florida is our climate with the amount of rain fall and cloud coverage we have. Germany, the world leader in solar energy production, recently powered the entire country for one day with a record setting 74% use of energy from renewable sources! Germany’s average days of sun per year is 109, Florida’s average days of sun per year …. 250. A solar panel system is a sound investment with no moving parts or really any maintenance after installation along with a 25 year warranty. On average your system will pay for itself in 9 years and then continue to make you money long after. It is a no brainer for investors and home owners. And Cooling and Wolfgang have partnered up to offer solar packages to Florida home owners ranging from small to medium to large packages also including the heat pump water heaters we talked about last week.
