NOTE: The amount of nitrogen (N), phosphate (P2O5), and potash (K2O) actually applied may deviate 10 pounds per acre fromthat recommended without appreciably affecting yields.

Small grains - rye, wheat, oats. These crops can utilize about 100 pounds of nitrogen per acre during the growing season. Splitthe nitrogen (N) application, applying 50 pounds nitrogen per acre at planting and 50 pounds nitrogen per acre in late winter.

Ryegrass alone or small grain-ryegrass. Apply 50 pounds nitrogen per acre in the fall at planting, 50 pounds per acre in latewinter, and 50 pounds per acre in early spring. Ryegrass has a longer than normal grazing season. The spring and winterapplication of nitrogen will help extend the grazing period if that is desired.

For maintenance, apply 3 pounds of boron (B) per acre annually. Apply 3 ounces of molybdenum (Mo) (8 ounces of sodiummolybdate) in 25 gallons of water per acre every two years. Apply the foliar application of Mo in late winter or in spring beforenew shoots reach 2 to 3 inches in height.

When establishing alfalfa: Per 60 pounds of seed, apply 1/4 ounce of molybdenum (2/3 ounce of sodium molybdate) in justenough water to slightly moisten the seed. (CAUTION: DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED AMOUNT OFMOLYBDENUM.)

To extend the life of alfalfa stands, apply half of the potash (K2O) in spring and half inlate summer.

Fertilizer Conversion Data Georgia law requires fertilizer producers to display the guaranteed analysis (grade) on the bag. Example: 10-10-10 means that the fertilizer contains 10% nitrogen (N), 10% phosphate (P) and 10% potassium (K). For example, in 30 pounds of 15-30-15, there are 4.5 pounds of N, 9 pounds of P, and 4.5 pounds of K. Generally, 2 cups of granular fertilizer equals one pound. Occasionally lawn fertilizer recommendations are expressed in pounds of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. In cases where you are substituting complete fertilizers of different ratios, the rate should be based on the amount of fertilizer needed to supply the recommended amount of nitrogen. The table below can be used to convert commonly available fertilizer formulations: Fertilizer Mix Ratio Number of Pounds of Fertilizer Needed to Apply 1 Pound of Nitrogen

Varies with amount of straw and method of storage. 4Potash content depends on the tree species burned. Wood ashes are alkaline, containing approximately 32% CaO.
