Everybody talks about innovation. IBM knows how to help clients become innovators.
Where do you start? Potential "doorways" to innovation:
– Make your services special– Make your products special– Examine your processes– Consider your business model– Put management culture to the test– Respond to rapidly changing business conditions

Service orientationMaking it easier to integrate people, process and information
With integration and service orientation
Without integration and service orientation
Integrating existing systems and creating new services can be as tough as knocking down walls
Without integration and service orientation…
Without a service orientation... applications would end up having to be “ripped and
replaced”

CHALLENGE Stockholm, like cities throughout the world, is struggling with traffic
congestion and pollution that is adversely effecting the quality of life.
SOLUTION Implement a pilot congestion charging system that monitors traffic
flow throughout the cities charging zones. Vehicles entering or leaving the charging zone are charged based on time of day, with fares highest during peak rush hours. The solutions leverages RFID technologies and cameras linked to license plate data bases to identify vehicles.
BENEFITS
In the first month of the pilot traffic in the charging zones,
traffic was reduced by 100,000 vehicle passages per day or 25%train and transit passengers increased by 40,000 per day parking fines reduced by 29%
Stockholm residents voted to continue to pay for the privilege of driving in the City
