Statement of problemWhat are the causes, effects and solution of unemployment in the community of Friendship?
Reasons for selecting the area of research
The researcher chooses the topic unemployment because the issue is prevalent in the country but only affects certain parishes and districts. Unemployment has caused contentions and separation of families. The researcher has been a member of Friendship for fifteen (15) years. During these years, the researcher has been exposed to the issue of unemployment. The unemployment level in Friendship is very high and as result many individuals especially males are seen on the street smoking and getting into fights.
Method of investigationThe researcher decided to use printed questionnaire to collect the information. The questionnaire is basic and straight forward containing one open question, seven yes or no questions and seven giving other options.
The questionnaire is a set of questions written for a survey.
The questionnaire was used because a lot of information can be collected in a short period of time, it facilitates easy data analysis.

Figure one asked the respondents what level of education they have obtained. A vast number of the participants attained a primary education forty percent, following by a secondary education thirty two percent and the minority attaining a tertiary education twenty eight percent. From the information above it can be said that majority of the youths in friendship have a basic education.

A vast number of the participants said lack of jobs forty percent, lack of education and applying for jobs with no vacancies available tied at twenty percent, twelve percent said looking for a specific job while eight percent said awaiting exam results. depends on friends while twelve percent and eight percent respectively rely on gambling and illegal activities. From this it can be said that the youths rely on family members for financial support.
Figure four asked if the youths would migrate if they gained overseas employment. Majority of the respondents said yes sixty percent while forty percent said no. From this it can be concluded that many of the youths are waiting jobs from overseas.
Figure five asked the youths of friendship what do they do in their spear time. From the information above it can be concluded that majority of the youths stay home during their spear time.
Figure six asked the youths how long they have been without a job. Forty eight percent said 5-14 years, thirty two percent said 2-4 years and the minority said 1 year twenty percent. From this it can be said that majority of the youths have been unemployed for nine years.
Statement of findingUpon research I found that most of the youths are high
school drop outs and this is one of the major causes of unemployment in my community.
Upon collection of data it shows that more males are unemployed than females due to lack of education. Due to the effect of lack of education most of the males are sitting on street corners idling, smoking and drinking alcohol. This situation can be resolved by creating a community center and employing of persons to teach different skills. This will cause both male and females to be marketable.
Finding has shown that most youths depend on family members mostly due to their unemployed status. This cause a strain on the family resources. The community members and the government can provide more jobs to reduce the unemployment rate.
Finding has shown that most youths have been without a job for 5-14 years due to unemployment. This has cause them to be financially imbalance. This situation can be resolved by the government imputing more businesses in the community or nearby.
Recommendations and implementation of strategy
Parents need to be more involved in their child/children life.
Government can provide aid in helping the youths in my community with developing skills.
Parents need to provide the basic needs for their children and the tools necessary for their education. Parents need to do weekly check-ups at the school to ensure that their children are getting along. Also, parents need to build a relationship with their children so that they can tell when something is wrong.
Government needs to provide community and training centers in each community so that our youths can develop a lifelong skill. Once these skills are taught the government must provide employment for these skills to be utilized. This will cause the unemployment rate to go down and fewer youths would be sitting on the corner.
Question 4: Would you migrate if you gained overseas employment?
60% of youths would migrate if they got a job opportunity overseas
