Web 2.0 is some kind of kids’ game.

Do I need to learn something new?

Does this change what we’ve always done?

Does this mean we’re not in control?

Isn’t there some kind of liability?

This won’t help our mission.

What does this change about your organization?

Page 11: Social Media For Churches Nn

Resistance anyone? (slide) What do the “building blocks” change

about your organization? Have you encountered any “walls” regarding

social media? If not, do you anticipate some? If so, what are they? How can you/have you/will you address

them? Fears Worksheet

Take Feedback & Give Suggestions

Page 12: Social Media For Churches Nn

Take 5 -10 minutes and list a few of your fears about Social Media

Report out: One fear and one way to turn it around. Example: “Does this mean we’re not in

control?”▪ Turn around #1: Yes, but, we believe in our

community. So, if anything is said “off message” or negatively, we have people who will stand up for us.

▪ Turn around #2: Yes, but, we can dedicate time to monitor our online presence

▪ Turn around #3: Yes, but, people talk “offline” as well & you cant control what they say – at least this way we are informed and empowered.

What do you want to accomplish with social media?  Now, restate your objective so it is

“SMART” – specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-based.

What are some ways you can integrate tools into existing communication?

How will you measure success?

Page 28: Social Media For Churches Nn

Are teachers who use Facebook, text messaging, instant messaging, etc more effective teachers?

Page 29: Social Media For Churches Nn

Managing internal working groups, board committees, etc. can be time consuming & costly. Don’t drive…SKYPE! Don’t email for meeting dates, use

Meeting Wizard or Google Calendars Don’t search for emails, documents,

latest updates, etc. use Google Groups or Izoca or Zoho
