PREPARATION:Seal the entire ornament with Multi-Purpose Sealer; using the glaze wash brush. Then lightly sand and wipe off with a lint-free cloth. Next, lightly wash over the surface with Driftwood (except the top cap); us-

ing the glaze wash brush.

Place the Delicate Snow Cling Stamp on the clear handle, pounce Snow White over the stamp; using the cosmetic wedge. Then stamp over the ornament sur-face. (Note that when using paint on stamps it is im-portant that you do not overload the image.) Pounce the cosmetic wedge sponge into acrylic paint and then on a clean area of the palette. (When you look at the bottom of the sponge it should be covered in paint, but you should still be able to see the texture of the sponge.) Now quickly pounce the loaded sponge over the entire image and stamp it on the surface. Re-load the sponge and stamp as needed. When dry, lightly mist with the matte spray.

Transferring Structures and Snow HillsTransfer the structures and snow hills to the surface. You can transfer any straight lines by dragging the stylus along the ruler’s edge.

Snow HillsCorner load the angle with Neutral Grey, fl oat a wide shade to the backside of each snow hill and along the surface edge where the fence will be added later; mop to soften. Now corner load the angle with Dove Grey, fl oat a wide highlight and walk it out along the front side of each snow hill; mop to soften. Then corner load the angle with Dove Grey, randomly chisel fl oat* over the foreground of each snow hill area; more snow will be added after the design is completed.

*chisel fl oat by corner loading the angle, blend off on your palette, lay the bristles of the brush fl at on the-surface, chisel edge up. Push the paint on the bristles front left to right in a scratching motion, allowing the bristles to pull a broken line that is slightly fl oated.

Background PinesWith a pencil and graph ruler, transfer the center line for each pine. Work only on a couple of pines at a time.

Slightly pre-dampen the surface area with clean wa-ter. This will help the paint bleed; giving the boughs a softer eff ect. Using the 8 fi lbert, load Charcoal Grey across the chisel edge, horizontally tap in the boughs. Up on the chisel edge, slightly pull the top of the pine.Tapping from left to right for the boughs, slowly and

slightly widening as you work towards the base of the pine. Allow a bit of the background to show through; so the pine doesn’t look like a triangle. When dry, ran-domly repeat tapping Charcoal Grey over the boughs; to deepen a few areas.

Repeat the same steps with the remaining pines. When that is dry, repeat the same steps with Warm White; for highlight and snow.

Background ShrubsWith the appropriate size Texture brush and Charcoal Grey, lightly dance in the shrubs behind structures. Then lightly dance with Warm White; for highlight and snow. For the proper use of the Texture Brush, use the following method:

• Dampen the bristles with water to start the separation of bristles. Tap bristles into the paint on your palette, hold it perpendicular to your palette, pounce it up and down to get some of the paint off —keeping the paint sparse on the brush. Note that this brush can be used on the whole foot or just the toe.

• Tap lightly on the surface, dance with the brush up and down, rolling the brush in diff erent directions in between your fi ngers when it is up in the air (like dancing the twist, light on your feet). Allow some

drying time in between dances so the paint sets up and you don’t end up with a globby or muddy look.

Bare TreesUse the 2 shader and Charcoal Grey, base in the tree trunks, then up on the chisel edge, pull the branches. Then use the 0 shader and Warm White, dab snow on a couple of branches. With the 0 liner and Charcoal Grey, pull the small fence posts, to the left and right of the small pines.

Basecoating DesignsWith the appropriate size shaders, basecoat:• Charcoal Grey – building walls• Dove Grey – building roofs

Detailing BuildingsWith the appropriate size shaders and Dove Grey, wash over the inside walls of each structure setting; for highlight and separation; refer to photo on page 4 for placement.

RoofsWith the 0 shader and Charcoal Grey, pull the chim-neys. Then corner load the angle with Warm White, fl oating a highlight across the top of each roof. With the 5 /0 liner and Dove Grey, pull the side roof lines. Next, using the 5 /0 liner and Warm White, pull high-

light strokes across the top of the Dove Grey side roof lines.

Windows and DoorsWith the appropriates size shaders and Dove Grey, pull the windows and doors.

Additional Ground SnowCorner load the angle with Warm White, re-fl oat across the top of each snow hill and then chisel fl oat* down into the snow hills.

WreathsWith the sm. Texture brush and Dove Grey, dance in the wreaths on the two structure walls. Then lightly dance Warm White; for snow. With the 5⁄0 liner and Santa Red, pull the bows on the wreaths.

Birds and SledsWith the 5 /0 liner and Santa Red, pull the birds and sleds. Then with the 5 /0 liner and Warm White, pull a beak and place a dot for an eye on the birds.

Large Foreground Fence PostsWith the 2 shader and Charcoal Grey, pull the fence posts. Then with the 0 liner and Charcoal Grey, pull the wiring over the posts. Next, load the 2 shader across the chisel edge with Dove Grey, up on the chisel edge, and randomly pull highlight strokes over the posts and wiring.

Snow PilesWith the sm. Texture brush and Warm White, randomly dance snow piles on the roofs, fence posts, ground areas, etc. Refer to left photo for placement.

Falling SnowWith the Spattering Tool and thinned Warm White, spatter over the entire design for snow.

Faux Finishing TechniqueBasecoat the backside and edge (not the top cap area) of the ornament with Driftwood; using the glaze wash brush, achieving an opaque coverage. When dry, apply one coat of satin varnish to the backside of the ornament over the Driftwood; using the Oval Wash Combo brush. This brush doesn’t leave any vis-ible brushstroke marks after the varnish has dried. The coat of varnish will help

allow more open time to manipulate the desired faux fi nish eff ect.

Following the label instructions on the Faux Finishing Glaze Medium, mix the glaze with Neutral Grey + a shot of water. Then brush the glaze mixture on the backside of the ornament. Next, take the silk sponge (which has been dampened with water and squeezed out), sponge over the area, picking up some of the glaze mixture and continuing to work the sponge over the surface to soften the fi n-ished look Once in a while, squeeze some of the glaze mixture out of the sponge into a piece of paper towel or maybe you need to totally rinse the sponge in water before continuing.

With the 8 shader and the Neutral Grey mixture paint the side edge of the orna-ment. Then paint the entire top “cap” of the ornament with Silver Extreme Sheen Metallic using the 8 shader.

FINISHINGTo protect your painted piece, varnish the entire grooved ornament with the Dura-Clear Matte Varnish; using the Oval Wash Combo brush. This brush doesn’t leave any visible brushstroke marks after the varnish has dried.
