FEBRUARY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: (LOA’s are provided within 5 days; these are open to ALL active duty service members, dependents, DoD! Transportation provided to active duty, with the priority given to single/unaccompanied active duty service members), unless specified otherwise.

WE UPDATE OUR WEBSITE EVERY FEW DAYS WITH ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE NOT ON THIS CALENDAR! Craven County Big Sweep (2/3). Help us during this community wide effort to clean up parks, streams, roadsides, and other sites in need in New Bern! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1500. Special Olympics Basketball (2/6, 2/13, and 2/20). Have some fun and assist our awesome Athletes with a variety of basketball drills and relays! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0830; will return around 1300. Lunch and drinks will be provided! Habitat for Humanity (2/6, 2/13, 2/20, and 2/27). Assist with Habitat’s newest build in New Bern. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700; will return around 1330. Please bring bagged lunch and water source. Please wear closed toed shoes, and weather appropriate civilian attire. Oaks Road Elementary School (2/9). Meet at the Roadhouse at 1500; will return around 2030. Appropriate civilian attire. Pruitt Health Senior Valentine’s Ball (2/13). Attend the Valentines Ball in your dress blues and spend time with the assisted living residents! Refreshments will be provided. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Will return around 2100. Bayview Senior Valentine’s Ball (2/13). Attend the Valentines Ball in your dress blues and spend time with the assisted living residents! Refreshments will be provided. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Will return around 2100. Carteret House Senior Valentine’s Ball (2/14). Attend the Valentines Ball in your dress blues and spend time with the assisted living residents! Dinner and refreshments will be provided. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1630. Will return around 1900. Crystal Bluffs Senior Valentine’s Ball (2/14). Attend the Valentines Ball in your dress blues and spend time with the assisted living residents! Refreshments will be provided. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1300. Will return around 1630. Veteran’s Organic Garden Volunteering in New Bern (2/17 and 2/24). We will be assisting the Veterans Employment Base Camp and Organic Gardens with a variety of construction and planting projects! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800. Will return by 1230. Camp Corral (2/17): Volunteer to help out our families with Fallen Heroes and Wounded Warriors. Food and beverages are included. POV only. Meet at the Morehead City Golden Corral at 0900; will be completed around 1330. Ft Macon Beach Clean-Up (2/23). Assist with cleaning up Ft. Macon Beach and Trails! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1500. Please bring sunscreen, closed toed shoes, hat, bagged lunch, and water source. Croatan National Forest Volunteering (2/24)! Assist the Forestry Service with a variety of outdoor projects in support of the Croatan National Forest. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1630. Please wear closed toed shoes/boots and weather appropriate civilian attire. Tryon Palace Opportunities (ongoing). Please see our website for special and ongoing Tryon Palace opportunities; preregistration is required for all Tryon events! Here are some upcoming events; full details are on our SMP website:

Animal Shelter (every Saturday): Volunteer at the Carteret County Animal Rescue. Assist with walking the dogs, meeting with potential adopters, special projects, and cleaning. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700. Volunteer with a Veterans’ Retirement Community – Carteret House (every Monday): Bond with Veterans and swap stories at one of our local retirement communities. Attire is service uniform of the day please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Volunteer with Riverpoint Nursing Home (every Wednesday): Volunteer with our seniors! Attire is service uniform of the day please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Youth Sports Basketball and Cheer Coaches! If you are interested in volunteering to be a Youth Sports Basketball or Cheer on base for 7-12 year old athletes, please contact MCCS Youth Sports at 252-466-5493. Will be 3-5 hours per week. Tryon Palace Garden Blitz Days (every Wednesday; POV only). Assist the Tryon Palace with raking, gardening, and mowing. POV only. Meet at Tryon Palace (0830 to 1130 and/or 1300-1600). Please bring gloves, sunscreen, water source, and bug spray. Please see the SMP front desk if you would like to borrow work gloves. Additional registration details on our website! Havelock Boys and Girls Club (M – F). POV only. Volunteer with our local Boys and Girls Club! Assist with mentoring, tutoring, homework, coaching, and activities! Please contact the Boys and Girls Club at 252-444-5437 for additional details. A one-time $10 background check is required. WWII Museum Restoration (on-going M—S; works around your schedule). Love cool history? Want to help save our WWII history?!! Learn how to restore some of the coolest artifacts and VEHICLES from WWII at the Newport WWII Museum. POV only; please contact Frank at [email protected] to set up a time to volunteer! FEBRUARY SPECIAL EVENTS: SMP SUPER BOWL PARTY (2/4)!!! Watch the BIG GAME at the Roadhouse and enjoy FREE SUPER BOWL CAKE (while supplies last)!!! Restaurant food and beverage specials will be abundant! Pre-game and pre-show coverage starts EARLY; kick-off is at 1830. Awesome door prize drawings will be at half-time!! UFC FIGHT NIGHT (2/10) FREE. UFC 221. Interim Middleweight Title Fight: Romero vs Rockhold, Hunt vs Blaydes, Tuivasa vs Asker, Matthews vs Jingliang, Pedro vs Safarov, and many more!! Prelims kick-off at 2000; Main fight starts at 2200 at the Roadhouse! STOPLIGHT PARTY!!! FREE FOOD!!! (2/15 at 1930). Embrace your singleness, bring a hot date, or make some new friends STOPLIGHT party (red= taken; yellow = it’s complicated; green = single; other colors = ???). Music, crazy singles mingles games, Valentine’s Independence Contests & Prizes (best pick-up line, funniest date story), tournaments, Kill Cupid Darts Tournament, restaurant and beverage specials. Free food and PARTY kicks off at 1930. SMP Council Meeting (2/22 at 1430 at the Roadhouse): ALL ARE WELCOME!!! SMP is YOUR program, so come fill us in on your recreation ideas, volunteering ideas, and QOL concerns. Pool Tournaments (2/8, 2/10, 2/13, 2/22) at 2000. Canvas and Cork (2/14) at 1830. Poker Tournaments (2/1, 2/6, 2/15, 2/20, and 2/27) at 2000. Cards Against Humanity Night (2/22 and 2/25) at 1930. Musical Bingo (2/13) at 2030. Bible Discussion Group! Every Tuesday at 1900 in the Roadhouse reading room. Disgruntled Decks Marine Corps Edition (2/8 and 2/18). (Sort of like Cards Against Humanity … but SPECIFICALLY FOR MARINES. No kiddos present, please). FREE SMP Golf Clinics (every Wednesday): Have fun while learning golf fundamentals or work on your existing technique! All range balls and equipment will be provided. VALENTINE INDEPENDENCE WEEK (2/12 through 2/16): Anti-Valentine’s Movie Marathon (2/12): Enjoy your favorite NON-ROMANTIC, action packed movies. No romantic crap allowed. Musical Bingo (2/13) at 2030. Honeymooners Game Night (2/14 at 2100). SMP is hosting a spin on the traditional honeymooners game. Prizes awarded! Chick Flick Night (2/14 from 1700 to 2200). Canvas and Cork (2/14) at 1830. STOPLIGHT PARTY!!! FREE FOOD!!! (2/15 at 1930). SPECIAL TRIPS: Raleigh Trip (2/17) FREE TRANSPORTATION. Head up to Raleigh and have a blast with shopping, restaurants, museums (Natural Sciences, History, Art, etc.), downtown, concerts, plays, and much more!! YOU PICK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO!!! Price includes transportation everywhere. (Most museums are free). Meet at the Roadhouse at 1000. Registration online due by 2/13. Students – see SMP Coordinator for letter for your Chain-of-Command, as needed. Bahama’s Cruise! (2/16 through 2/21). Please see Crystal Coast Travel and Leisure for more information. SMP and DEVIL DOG DARE (FREE!). SMP has received a number of spots for Devil Dog Dare, to include PAINTBALL. Two packages available! Includes the activities, lunch, and drinks at NO CHARGE to the Command/Marine/Sailor. Please contact John at [email protected] to reserve your group! Open on Fridays, and available Tuesdays and Thursdays. Advanced reservations required please.
