Master vs. Accessory Light SwitchesA Master Switch or Dimmer can be used independently for a light fixture that is normally controlled by a single switch. If a light fixture is controlled by more than one switch, an accessory switch or dimmer must be added for every additional control point. The accessory light switch is then able to toggle the master light switch ON or OFF in 3- or 4- way configurations.

Z-Wave is a wireless radio-frequency network that was designed to communicate with Z-Wave enabled devices to expand its network coverage area. All ClareVue Lighting Products use Z-Wave technology to securely communicate with your smart home.

Z-Wave operates as a mesh network, meaning the more Z-Wave devices you have in your network, the stronger and more reliable the network signal becomes; allowing for greater area coverage.

Within a home setting, the average range can be up to 30ft depending on obstructions and building materials such as concrete, rebar, glass, bricks, or blocks. To reach devices that are over 30ft away from the controller, additional Z-Wave devices must be added in between to act as Z-Wave repeaters.

Pairing a Z-Wave enabled device to a smart home controller like the ClareHome CLIQ.Mini is as simple as activating the device pairing mode through the ClareHome App and pressing the pair Z-Wave device button found on ALL Z-Wave devices. The system will then automatically take over and finalize the pairing process.

Z-Wave operates in the 900 MHz frequency range which is shared by few other devices. In comparison, other smart home networks such as ZigBee, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, wireless speakers and even most car remotes operate on the same 2.4 GHz frequency. This can cause major network interference, causing devices to have adverse side effects or connection issues. Z-Wave operates on a different frequency, thus helping to prevent the possibility of network interference.
