Campers Enjoy Summer Fun at Atlanta Girls’ School The June 7-11th session of the SMART Girls Summer Camp has been a smashing success! Our mornings include large group activities including a “Whack a Mole” tournament, heated Uno games, and Bananagrams. Our campers have also had time to tap into their artistic sides with the creation of friendship bracelets, “tie-dyed” camp visors, and mosaic drawing projects. During our morning adventures, campers divide into smaller groups to learn about computer programming or mathematical patterns. In computer programming, campers are using the Scratch application on iMacs. Ms. Gibson has introduced campers to many important concepts about analytical thinking and problem solving in one’s approach to computer programming. Campers have participated in activities involving mapping games and binary code treasure hunts. Ms. Conner got her students up and moving in her Mathematical Patterns class by having campers create human graphs and patterns! Campers have had hands on algebraic support with her supervision. Our “Science and Snacks” sessions have been very popular at camp. Campers performed individual experiments and tested their theories with the “Penny Drop” experiment and the creation of “Moon Mud.” Our final “Science and Snacks” session will involve some surprises and keepsakes for our campers with lessons about the effects of Ultra Violet (UV) Rays and the protection sunscreen and sunglasses can offer. SMART GIRLS 2010 June 10, 2010 ART Dance Mrs. Beard taught her Art class members different ways to make their travel journals more creative and whimsical using different artistic techniques. This week the class took field trips to enjoy some different scenes along the Chattahoochee and at Cumberland Mall.
