FULLY MODULAR
Highly flexible and mobile in set-up
and use.Highly expandable.
DEREK
BUILD; Construct/assemble in the US
TRANSPORT; Easy to transport. 1 or several people. Carry-on or fit into suitcase.
INSTALL; Requires day-to-day set up. Flexible set-up. Explore improved, integrated instructions/directions. Color-
coding etc.
USE: Highly flexible and mobile in use. Can be transported anywhere. No opportunities for charging overnight.
STORAGE; No storage unless provided on-site.
SECURITY; Does not have to live in classroom, can be taken home by teacher. Requires a responsible person to
oversee system.
FULLY MODULAR: This concept direction is the fully modular and mobile. It is the concept closest to
the current version of the solar suitcase. It is an improvement to Smallbean’s current system, but still
using individual parts that are independent of each other. The concept includes the idea of the power
converter as a “brick” and offers improved and user friendly instructions/directions for install and use.

BUILD; Construct/assemble in the US
TRANSPORT; Transported as individual parts, by several people (min 2 ppl). Individual parts can be carried on a
plane.
INSTALL; Requires some initial set-up. No day-to-day set up required. Not flexible once set up.
USE: Not mobile, but could integrate mobile units. Explore. Highly expandable, opportunities for charging laptops/
batteries overnight.
STORAGE; It is it’s own storage unit. Explore integrated laptop storage.
SECURITY; By adding weight at the bottom as one example and securely connecting all the modular parts it
bcomes a secure unit. Explore integrated snd secure laptop storage.
SEPARATE MODULAR UNITS: The big idea of this concept is to use individual modular parts that can
stack/connect together. This makes for a highly expandable system as parts can be added on at any
time. Think of it as lego or building blocks.
SEPARATE MODULAR UNITS
Flexible in set-up. Highly expandable.

BUILD; Construct/assemble in the US
TRANSPORT; Large unit-chekc in. Only requires 1 person to transport.
INSTALL; Easy installation and set-up. Some day-to-day set up/take down. Flexible in set-up, choose where to
place parts.
USE: Mobile and flexible. Entire system can be rolled/moved around the room. Individual parts can be moved
around. Opportunities to charge laptops overnight?
STORAGE; It is it’s own storage unit but requires assembly into one unit to become a secure storage unit. Explore.
Explore laptop storage.
SECURITY; Explore security, how can we prevent someone from walking away with the whole unit?
JOINED MODULAR UNITS: The idea behind this concept is based on modular parts as well, but that
connect together to create one larger unit that can easily be transported and used as a storage unit.
The uniqueness of this concept is that it has two modes; 1. an all-in-one mobile unit 2. separate mo-
bile units allowing for different configurations around the room.
JOINEDMODULAR UNITS
Mobile and flexible in both set-up and use. Limited ex-
pandability.

BUILD; Construct/assemble in the US
TRANSPORT; All-in-one unit, chekc in or ship. Explore shipping as two parts. Fairly difficult to transport, heavy.
INSTALL; No initial installation required. Some day-to-day set up.
USE: Emphasizes on teaching. Explore integration of schedule, teachig tools, instructions, horizontal surface etc.
Opportunities for charging laptops overnight.
STORAGE; It is it’s own storage unit.
SECURITY; Is secure by being one heavy unit. Additional weight could be added.
STATIONARY: On the opposite side of the spectrum for Smallbean’s current system is the stationary
system solution. This concept focuses on the teaching and training aspect of the project and provides
additional benefits to support that. It is a complete all-in-one system that remains stationary once at
it’s location.

STATIONARY
Stationary, limited expandability

ADJUSTABLESOLAR PANELSManually adjust-able for four sea-
sons.

ADJUSTABLE SOLAR PANELS: The idea of increasing energy output by maximizing solar input is
brilliant. We would like to further explore ideas around a manually adjustable solar panel system with
concepts in a range from very low tech to high tech solutions. We believe that it would only be neces-
sary to create 4 settings, one for each season. The solar panels have to be mounted to the roof for
security/safety reasons ideally the panels would be adjusted from the ground.
In addition to developing the solar panel system, it would be great to briefly look at how it could be
applied to each of the 4 concept directions above.
