    Advantages of CCRI Slurry Pumps

    Background Information of CCRI Slurry Pumps

    There are two types of slurry pump which are widely used in Chinas coal industry.A :Imported slurry pumps or pumps made in china with design originally from oversea. B:Slurry pumps designed by China Coal Research Institute, Coal Preparation Branch. (CCRI SLURRY PUMP)Before 2000, imported pumps have a 90% market share in China. But they have been replaced by CCRI pumps which have 80% market share in Chinas coal industry now.Advantages of CCRI slurry pumps compared with imported pumps1.The operating efficiency of the Chinese pumps is higher than that of the imported technologies. From 1956, China began to set up the major of Hydraulic Machinery in some universities and colleges in order to improve the theoretical research on the centrifugal pump efficiency and to apply the research result to the development of pump products. Coal preparation Branch of China Coal Research Institute set up Hydraulic Coal Mining Institute in 1956 to begin research on coal pumps and slurry pumps. It has gained a great deal of experience in terms of improvement of the pump efficiency, and has developed the CCRI series highly efficient energy-saving slurry pumps which are at least 5% more efficient than the imported similar products. 2.The CCRI slurry pumps have more advanced hydraulic designs. The geometrical shapes of their flow passage components conform to the flow conditions of the medium, which has reduced vortexes and impacts. The pumps have high efficiency. Under the same operating conditions, they require motors of smaller power. The motors require small working current, which saves electricity significantly. 3.The flow passage components of the CCRI slurry pumps adopt the material of GLH-1 (high-chrome wear resistant alloy cast iron) whose Rockwell hardness reaches HRC58-62. With reasonable heat treatment technology, the comprehensive good mechanical performance is achieved, which makes the pumps more wear resistant and thus extends their service life. 4.The frame bearing parts of the CCRI slurry pumps are more reasonably designed, and are longer than those of the imported pumps. That is, the distance between two sets of bearings is longer, which means, according to the lever principle, a smaller radial thrust on the bearings. Therefore, it improves the service life of the bearings, and the bearing parts of the frame operate more stably and reliably. 5. Shaft seals of the CCRI slurry pumps are more reasonably designed. They are in form of labyrinth + expeller. The structure of the labyrinth and expeller reduces the pressure and flow of the leak slurry, and thus the pressure of the required shaft seal water is greatly reduced. In addition, better air tightness is achieved. Shaft seals of imported pumps are not equipped with the expeller, and thus the pressure of the required shaft seal water is high, with poor air tightness.

    6. CCRI slurry pumps are featured by simple structure, small size, lightweight (compared with the imported pumps of the same flow, same pump head and same rotational speed) and convenient maintenance and dismounting.

    In about 1983 which was the last stage of the Chinese planned economy, all industries in China were isolated from each other without any communication. Slurry pumps manufactured by the pump enterprises under the Ministry of Machinery Industry were the sand pumps introduced from the former Soviet Union. Such pumps had an average operating efficiency of less than 40% and a short service life. Therefore, Chinas Ministry of Machinery Industry introduced the technologies of imported pumps, and began to manufacture such pumps in China. In 1985, imported pumps began to be accepted and popularized in the coal industry, especially in the coal preparation industry. This situation reached the climax in about 1990 when the market share of imported pumps at the coal preparation plants reached about 90%. It was from 1987 that Coal Preparation Branch of China Coal Research Institute began to shift from solely focusing on research to market services under the guide of the national policies. Through the market survey, it found that the slurry pump products in the market were in a mess. Almost all domestic pumps were featured by low efficiency and short service life. Some slurry pumps had a service life of only one week and were jokingly called "Weekly Pumps", which had a severe impact on the operation of the entire system. Imported pumps were expensive, had poor universality and were not supplied in time, leading to their rejection by users. Therefore, Hydraulic Coal Mining Institute of Coal Preparation Branch specifically set up a pump research and development team. Within 3 years after 1987 and through efforts, the team developed a series of highly efficient wear-resistant slurry pumps. After such series of pumps was launched, they were first used for hydraulic transportation at the power plants in the power industry and made significant achievements. The operating efficiency of the pump system was above 70%, and the service life was extended by 8 times compared with the former sand pump, making these pumps popular among users. In 1990, such pumps began to be promoted to the coal washing industry. At first, users did not trust these Chinese products very much. They equipped one system with two pumps: one imported pump and one domestic pump, and compared these two pumps. The result showed that the domestic pump had high efficiency, low noise, stable operation and easy maintenance. It won the favor of users and began to be applied in the coal preparation industry. By 2006, slurry pumps manufactured using such technologies had a market share of up to 80% at the coal preparation plants. They had substantially replaced the imported technologies.

He has published more than 20 technical papers, and is the co-author of 1 technical monograph. He has been chosen as the top technician in the coal system in the national Talent Program.

    In the design of the two-phase-current multistage pump (using fresh water and fixed liquid), he proposed the increase of the impeller passage area and the decrease of the pumping chamber passage area, and achieved the overload-free performance of the pump; changed the traditional circulation intake chamber to achieve the even distribution of flow speed at the impeller inlet, and improved the cavitation performance; proposed the original quasi-two-dimensional flow design method, increased the ratio of inlet and outlet areas of impellers, increased the aperture of the cut-water, which may effectively improve the conveying performance of slurry pumps and the wear-resistant uniformity of impellers and scrolls of main flow passage components, and which has been well demonstrated in the design and application of slurry pumps and multistage pumps; developed the KZ series of highly efficient wear-resistant slurry pumps whose efficiency and other technical indices have reached the top international standard, and have enjoyed good popularity in the slurry pump market in China, especially in the coal, steel and mine market.
