Flat SlingsSecure A Load flat webbing slings are made of high tensile polyester yarn treated and coated for increased working life. These slings are used extensively for many different types of cargo handling in all types of conditions. They will not damage polished or fragile surfaces and will exert less pressure than wire ropes or chain at the point of contact with the load.

Round SlingsRound slings are easy to use, effi cient in operation and gentle on surface contact. All round slings are colour coded to give easyidentification of the safe working load. They come labelled, giving length and safe working load. The round sling inner core is madefrom high tensile polyester fi bre, which is wound continuously without a join to provide the maximum possible strength. This core is protected by a tough woven tubular sleeve also made from polyester without side stitch. It serves to protect both the inner core of thesling and the surface of the product when lifting. The low stretch characteristics of the polyester yarn also prevents “LOAD BOUNCE” whenlifting heavy loads. Round slings are unaffected by sunlight, humidity, grease and may be used in a multitude of lifting applications.

A truckdriver using a Flimsy Cargo Strap to secure a $50 million Dollar jet engine had the worst possible outcome imaginable. The expensive jet engine fell from the flatbed truck on a major Sydney road in Arncliffe.

The seven tonne General Electric CF6 is worth $40-50 million new, and is used by the Air Force’s KC-30A Multi-Role Tanker Transport aircraft, a military derivative of the Airbus A330-200.The massive engine fell onto the road when the driver braked suddenly and the strap holding it in place snapped.It is believed the strap was only designed to carry cargo up to 900kg. The Department of Defence has started investigations into the crash and the method of transport used to carry the CF6 engine.The way in which the contractor moved the engine is expected to form part of the investigation.The driver of the truck was charged with a number of offences for the overweight load and is due to appear in court in November.Australia has five KC-30As which are operated out of RAAF Base Amberley outside of Brisbane.The planes are capable of transferring more than 100 tonnes of fuel to fighter jets such as the FA-18 Super Hornets.Article: Daily Telegraph, Sydney.
