Whakapapa 2013Year 6 Ski camp
Timetable for Year 6 Ski Camp 2013Sunday 25th August
Vans arrive at school 8:00am to load and leave by 8:30am Weather permitting stop in Levin and lunch in Taihape at approx. 12:00
Arrive at Whakapapa Village 2:00 approx. and put on warm gear for drive to Iwikau Village at the top of the Bruce Road (skifield carpark)
Arrive at Iwikau Village and weather permitting get rental equipment and then walk to hut with gear from vansHousekeeping at hut and dinner at 6:30pm approx.. diary writing/social time and bed at 9:00pm
Monday 26th August
Up at 7:30, breakfast and organise lunch, walking across to skifield by 9:00am Lessons at 10:00am approx., meet for lunch at 12:30-1:00.
Free skiing with adults in the afternoon.Leave skifield by 4:00 to arrive at hut, shower/ prepare dinner,
Diary writing and social time, bed at 9:00pmTuesday 27th August-Thursday 29th August
As above, lessons provided to children on needs basis historically only a very small number of children have required more lesson time. Most progress swiftly to ski the lower mountain on day 2 and then on to the Upper Mountain by the end of the
camp. If the weather closes the field we will have options to travel to National Park (climbing wall), Whakapapa (DoC Centre, walks), Tokanau (Hot Pools) and many children may prefer to play in the snow around the hut. Rental gear will be returned on

Clean hut, pack gear walk across to vans and aim to leave by 10:00 am to arrive at Plateau school by 4pm (communication will be maintained with school/parents to ensure arrival time is known).

Cut lunch in a lunch box and drink (in a plastic drink bottle) for Sunday
Sunblock
Sunglasses/goggles (preferably goggles)
Toilet Gear and towel
Togs
Pyjamas or nightie
5 changes of Underwear
3 T.Shirts (at least) plus wool tops if you have them
Thermal underclothes
2 warm Fleece tops for skiing
Warm longs or tracksuit pants for hut wear
3 pairs of socks- warm for skiing
Sensible footwear, suitable for walking on snow
Footwear for around hut (sneakers and slippers)
Ski jacket and pants (Absolute Must!)
Book to read
Game to play with others e.g. board game (not Electronic)
Pencil Case with pens/pencils
2 Plastic supermarket bags for dirty clothes
Warm beanie and scarf/neckwarmer (helmet if you have one)
2 pairs ski gloves/mittens
A torch (if you have one)
Camera (optional)
Day pack for lunches/spare clothing
Sleeping Bag
Pillow Case
Small box of home baking
$10 for lunch on Friday trip back plus money for a hot drink while skiing
