Dear Amerco, My Journey Towards the Olympics

My name is Tink Newman. I am a university student and Skeleton racer on a path towards the Winter Olympics. I am driven, highly motivated and responsible. I am very grateful to have friends and family who are supporting my dream, but I would like to create a partnership with you or your company for a small sponsorship so I can continue my journey.

As a Skeleton athlete I am frequently traveling between the Calgary and Whistler tracks and I am living on my own in British Columbia. My family lives in Calgary Alberta. I am also a student and have been living off campus for the last year in BC. I am moving back onto Simon Fraser University Residence for September- May and I am looking to store some larger items such as a couch and queen size mattresses here in the lower mainland during that time until I move into the UniverCity apartments on Burnaby Mountain for the summer. As an athlete and student, I am in a great need of financial support to continue racing in competitions as well as continuing my studies. I would like to be an ambassador for your storage company and for you to be a supplier or financial sponsor so I can continue to train for the Olympics as well as finish my education.

My long-term goal as an athlete is to empower my fellow students, athletes and community to embrace health, nutrition and outdoor fitness as enjoyable lifelong activities. I could help advertise your brand internationally and especially in Alberta, British Columbia, and Florida.

Skeleton is an expensive sport to train for because of the high cost of ice track fees ($576/month), equipment and the traveling involved. Athletes striving for the Olympics in this sport most often work full time and are not in school. I balance my time between my studies, athletic development and practicing for Skeleton races 30-46 hours a week but struggle with the finances involved. I would like for you to sponsor me because I am a successful athlete and role model citizen. I have excelled in a variety of venues as Walt Disney Cast member, actress, singer, designer, and Drum Corps World Championships Bronze medalist. I know I can make a unique contribution to your company. Thank you for considering me for sponsorship. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thank you,

Tink Newman [email protected]

“Canadian athletes success on the world stage is directly tied to financial investment. When Canadians and corporate companies step to the plate and support both federations and athletes alike, Canada wins medals. Winning is

actually the easy part, finding the support is where athletic careers are made and lost.”- Jon Montgomery (Olympic Gold Medalist,

Men’s Skeleton, Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics)

2011, July 24, GAIA Clinic Triathalon, Fast and Female athlete ambassador

I believe I need to train like an Olympic athlete in order to be one, as well as give back to the community just as I have seen past Olympic athletes doing. Along with raising funds for Skeleton, one of my goals is to practice selflessness and humility by volunteering my various talents, just as much as a gold medalist Olympic athlete would. Although I have more student loans and athletic costs than I have money to my name, I am still more fortunate than most people and I am capable of serving others.

Non-Profits I supportI have found that building up and supporting other people’s goals is the best and most rewarding way to get other people to support my dream of going for gold. As an Athlete Ambassador, I use my sports and leadership background to generate awareness for multiple non-profit organizations through speaking at fundraising events, volunteering and fundraising. A portion of my proceeds goes to supporting these non-profits.

How I am doing fundraisingI have been researching and approaching companies who’s products and services I use on a daily basis and companies I feel like could benefit from my marketing. Starting in September, I plan to use my network and hold fundraisers on my university campus to support Team Tink. On my campus, I launched what will become the first varsity Bobsleigh & Skeleton team in the World. I am also working with the CAN & US Paralympic Bobsleigh coach to qualify both

Skeleton and Bobsleigh as paralympic sports for either Sochi 2014 or Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.
