What is the Core French Program?

A mandatory French program for studentsfrom grades 4 8

Available to all students in WRDSBbeginning in grade 1

Ministry of Education mandates thatstudents complete 600 hours by the end ofgrade 8

What does Core French look like?

Students receive 120 140 minutes perweek from grades 1 - 8

content is learned through listening,speaking, writing and reading

students will demonstrate a workingunderstanding of the language and beable to speak in familiar situations

What happens in high school?

Students must complete one grade 9credit in French for diploma requirements

Optional French credits are offered fromgrades 10 - 12

What is the Partial FrenchImmersion Program?

An alternative French program available tostudents entering in grade 1

Emphasis is placed on the acquisition oforal communication and literacy skills inFrench

What does the French Immersionday look like?

Half day of instruction in French fromgrades 1 6

Subjects include: French Language,Social Studies, Math and Visual Arts

30% of instruction is in French in grades 7and 8

Subjects include: French language,geography and history

Extended French is available at WCI, KCI,FHCI, GRCI and GCI

Students must complete 7 credits e.g.French language, Geography, History,Careers and Civics
