BIOGRAPHY OF HENRY (RICK) TERRONI
Rick was born on September 16, 1953 the first child of Lorenzo and Esther (Filosa) Terroni. His
parents named him Henry after his paternal grandfather whose name was Enrico Terroni and
nicknamed him “RICK”. His brother Steve was born 18 months later. At that time the family
moved from South Philadelphia to 25th Street in Chester, PA.
Rick began his education at St. Robert’s school which is now St. Katherine Drexel parish. He then
went to St. James High School where he graduated in the class of 1971. He went on to West
Chester State College now West Chester State University and graduated in 1975 with a degree in
mathematics – secondary education. Rick was very active in the Newman Club at West Chester
and was President for one year! Rick taught for 4 years but then decided to pursue a career in data processing. In May of
1981 Rick obtained his masters degree from Villanova University with a MS in Applied Statistics/Computer Science. Rick
obtained his PMP designation from the Project Management Institute. Rick’s career in data processing began as a Cobol
programmer, then worked as a project manager for projects like Y2K and later worked as a Business Analyst. Rick has
also worked for Barclay Caterers for 35 years. He currently runs catering events for them and works in their commissary.
On June 27, 1981 Rick married Patricia Corona and was blessed with two children. Richard Lawrence was born in 1983
and Elizabeth Maria (Beth) was born in 1986. The family moved to Broomall, PA in 1984 and became a member of St.
Pius parish where he is a member of the Usher’s Association and assisted for over 10 years volunteering at BINGO until it
ended. Rick was involved with his children’s activities. He volunteered for 8 years with the Marple Newtown Band
Parents Association and served as president for 1 year.
Rick joined the Knights of Columbus in April 1991 when he made his first degree and joined Mater Dei Council. He and
his family were at a pancake breakfast at Mater Dei Hall and his wife suggested that he join the Knights because her
father was a fourth degree member. In no time his mentor, Joe Caromano came over with a form 100 for him to fill out
and that is how he began his career in the Knights of Columbus. Rick immediately went up the chairs in his council and in
July 1998 he became Grand Knight and served until June 2000. Rick made his fourth degree in 1993. He decided to put
off becoming active in the Cardinal Dougherty Assembly due to family, work and other commitments he was making
with the Knights of Columbus.
In July 2000 Rick began his first 2 years as a District Deputy. In 2001 Rick became Financial Secretary of his Council. In
July 2002 he was honored to be asked by then State Deputy Ron Cubbage to join his team as Church Director. In August
2004 Rick was elected to represent the state of PA at the Supreme Convention in San Antonio Texas. In March of 2007
State Deputy Michael O’Connor asked Rick to join his team as Program Director. Rick served in this position under State
Deputy Wayne Freet and then in July 2010 Rick had the honor of being elected State Secretary for the jurisdiction of PA
serving under State Deputy George Koch. These two years gave Rick the opportunity to see many areas of the Knights of
Columbus with trips to New Haven and the Supreme Convention in Washington DC.
Since July 2012 Rick has been proud to be the Keystone Knight Editor for State Deputies Eric Johnson, Stanley Glowaski,
Charlie Vagnarelli and Mark Jago. Rick is currently the district deputy for District 31.
When his term as State Secretary ended Rick became more active in the Cardinal Dougherty Assembly serving as Faithful
Purser and then going up the chairs becoming Faithful Navigator in 2018-2019. Serving as Faithful Navigator was another
highlight in his career in the Knights of Columbus. Rick thoroughly enjoyed working with his officers and chairmen. He
found the job fulfilling, representing the assembly at events requiring an honor guard or chalice guard.
Rick has been the Steward for the Mater Dei Home Association and is responsible for running the hall which is now called
the Camelot Ballroom. Besides volunteering for the Knights of Columbus, Rick and Pat enjoy being with their
grandchildren Rhett Alexander and Lorelai Abigail who are the children of Beth and Mark Driscoll. They also enjoy
traveling and seeing as much of this world as they can!
Rick is proud to be a Knight of Columbus! He and Pat have enjoyed meeting so many people and forming so many
friendships!
Welcome Bother Knights, family, and friends to this very special occasion. Tonight, we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Cardinal Dougherty Assembly with our 100th Annual Dinner Dance! What an extraordinary milestone with which to honor our Immediate Past Faithful Navigator Rick Terroni for his leadership during the 2018-2019 Fraternal year.
Rick joined the CDA officer ranks as Faithful Purser during a tumultuous time for the assembly. But with Rick’s sure hand, we quickly regained our financial footing, and freed Rick to move upward through the chair offices. The past few years have shown a steady course for our assembly, in a large part due to Rick’s leadership. As I’ve followed Rick through the officer positions, we’ve been able to work closely together on many Assembly matters – especially the planning for the last several Dinner Dances. Rick took the lead on
creating the program books, and always did a skillful and exceptional job. I didn’t truly understand just how exceptional until this year, when we tried to do it without him. Rick, you made it look so easy – I only hope this book can approach your standard. While Rick rightly deserves the spotlight, we’ll also be taking this night to celebrate Cardinal Dougherty Assembly in its entirety.
The Cardinal Daugherty Assembly has accomplished many exciting things in the past 100 years, and we are looking forward to even greater achievements in the future. In order to do this, we need our Brother Knights, both new and established, to stand with us and help us to build a bright and enduring future for our beloved Knights of Columbus community. This year’s event would not have been possible without the amazing work of our Dinner Dance Committee and chairmen John Rush & Tom Begley. In addition to the usual officers and volunteers, this year’s committee also included several Past Faithful Navigators to bring something extra to this special event. Their work has made this momentous occasion of our 100th Dinner Dance a success!
So tonight… eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we embark on our next 100 years with Cardinal Dougherty Assembly!
Vivat Jesus,
Anthony Grimaldi Faithful Navigator

Biography of Cardinal Dougherty
Cardinal Dennis Joseph Dougherty
August 16, 1865 - May 31, 1951
Dennis Joseph Dougherty was born on August 16, 1865 in Ashland, Pennsylvania. He was the sixth of 10 children born to a coal miner and a homemaker who had emigrated from County Mayo, Ireland. The young Dougherty was educated in public schools as there were no parochial schools in his small town.
In 1880, he passed the entrance examinations for St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. However he was considered too young and was sent to Montreal, Canada for two years. He returned two years later and entered St. Charles Seminary at the age of 16, skipping his first two years of training. Three years later, he was sent to Rome where he earned a Doctor of Sacred Theology Degree in 1890.
From the day of his ordination to the priesthood in1890 until he died sixty-one years later on May 31, 1951 (the anniversary of his ordination), this Prince of the Church worked toward providing every Catholic child with a Catholic education. He felt deprived of this education and was determined to foster Catholic education from the first grade through university. In 1918, he was called upon to become the first native of the Philadelphia Archdiocese to serve as its Ordinary. During the thirty-three years of his episcopacy here, Cardinal Dougherty earned the title “The Great Builder.” Throughout the ten county Archdiocese he founded or built 110 parishes, 70 churches, 122 grammar schools, three colleges, nine diocesan high schools, fourteen academies, seven hospitals, seven orphanages, seven homes for the aged, and several institutions for various social services. There is no doubt that the lasting monument he left was Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. It was a testament to his vision that when the world’s largest Catholic High School was built it would bear his name. Cardinal Denis Joseph Dougherty would be pleased that in the first 50 years of its existence close to 45,000 students have received a Catholic education at Cardinal Dougherty High School.
Cardinal Dennis Joseph Dougherty is buried in the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
