Reader’s  Theater

Primary  Art   Week  1,  Cartooning  -­‐  Curriculum  has  been  specifically  designed  for  the  young  beginner  -­‐  basic  shapes  and  simple  lines.  Through  practical  exercises  (and  a  little  practice),  students  will  learn  how  to  draw  cartoon  people,  places,  animals,  and  things  -­‐  along  with  a  few  famous  characters  from  film  and  television.    

Week  2,  Drawing  -­‐  Learn  to  draw  what  you  see!  There  will  be  no  draw-­‐what-­‐the-­‐instructor-­‐draws  lessons  in  this  class.  Weather-­‐permitting,  students  will  step  outside  and  explore  their  surroundings  with  sketchbook  in  hand.  Students  will  discover  drawing  techniques  and  sharpen  their  observational  skills  via  a  wide  range  of  drawing  media  including  graphite,  pastel,  and  ink.    

Week  3,  Painting  -­‐  Paint  like  the  Masters!  Students  will  explore  the  vast  history  of  painting  (the  ancient  murals  in  the  Caves  of  Lascaux,  the  portraits  of  the  Renaissance,  the  colors  of  Impressionism,  the  emotions  of  Expressionism,  the  bizarre  ideas  of  Modernism)  Students  will  learn  how  to  set-­‐up  a  palette,  mix  colors,  and  the  methods  of  designing  and  creating  images  with  watercolor  and  acrylic  paint.  Teacher  –  N.  Berg
