Where We Are Today:

A long range plan was formulated during the 2009-2010 timeframe under the guidance and direction of the Institute of School and Parish Development. This led to the formation of a Master Plan Committee from all walks of parish life which has been working since 2009. During that time an extensive survey of all 75 ministries was conducted with a prioritized list of facility needs developed on the 29 acres of St. Jean Vianney Parish. Parishioner input was sought and compiled. The 29 acres and all campus facilities are currently shared by the 75 parish ministries including both the St. Jean Vianney Elementary School and St. Jean Vianney Parish Pre-School. Many of these ministries occupy our present facilities during the daytime and evening hours. Ministry groups are often in competition for existing facilities. St. Jean Vianney Parish serves a part of Baton Rouge with the potential to develop both residentially and commercially. The survey of the 75 ministries confirmed the existing facilities are inadequate to meet the present and future ministry needs of the Parish, School, and Pre-School. In May 2010, an architect, Dale Songy with Coleman and Associates, was hired to evaluate the best options reflecting our current facilities and proposed future facility needs. A draft drawing of the existing and proposed facilities was created and preliminary estimated construction costs developed.

The Master Plan Committee is now ready to present these findings and proposed formulated solutions to St. Jean Vianney parishioners.

What Parishioners Said About These Facility Needs:

The Master Plan Committee’s various surveys indicated facility limitations affect all major areas of parish life and ministry.

Currently, the parish operations have no ministry meeting space during daytime hours as all facilities are being used for the educational ministries of the parish. The Parish Elementary School’s facilities are quite limited. There is no parish gymnasium and no functioning cafeteria. Additionally, the School uses temporary buildings which are beyond their life-cycle. The St. Jean Vianney Pre-school, seeking state licensing, has no space for expansion as demanded and required. Some Catholic families who live within the boundaries of our parish choose to educate their children at other Catholic schools and subsequently become parishioners of other parishes due to newer and more complete facilities. As the parish population grows and existing ministries operate, these facility limitations become increasingly problematic.

KEEP THIS IN MIND: The costs shown for facilities are preliminary estimates. The actual costs may vary. The facilities list may not be built in the order shown. The actual order of construction will be determined by finances and previously determined ministry priorities with final decisions made by Parish Building Committee.

What Is Being Asked Of You?

In order to assess your and other parishioner support, the Master Plan Committee is conducting these four listening sessions and a financial feasibility study. Thank you for taking time to review this master plan and attend these meetings to voice your opinion. The Parish needs your considered support, both attitudinally and financially, to be successful in building these proposed facilities.

The Master Plan Committee needs your opinion. The Committee knows this proposal is ambitious in addressing the facility needs of our campus. What are your thoughts?
