Professor Under the direction of the Senior Academic Officer, the Dean, Curriculum and Research Committees or people they designate, a Professor is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective learning environment for students. This includes: A) Administrative, Academic and Service Activities Responsibilities: (Expected to spend 35% of 40 working hours per week) Campus administration is responsible for matters related to academic affairs, operational and administrative affairs, and matters related to student affairs. Deans along with multiple committees are responsible for overall administrationof a given campus and communication with the corporate head quarter in Chicago. Professor, therefore, is expected to become a member of a given committee, according to the recommendation of the Deans and the corporate office. Some of the obvious administrative duties are: - Attendance at faculty meetings, - Representing the department & courses on committees - Holding office hours for students twice a week. - Organizing consultations and extracurricular activities How far the administrative responsibilities are being met is evaluated by the number of committee meetings attended and the Dean’s assessment report. B) Teaching Responsibilities: (Expected to spend minimum 25% of 40 working hours per week) All teaching should, where applicable, follow a “general guideline for teaching” that is attached here with. Incumbent is expected to have clear conception of “Evidence Based Medicine” which is the basis of the entire academic program. He/she should - Direct a given course with full participation and support another course with limited involvement. - Define course outline, evaluate and validate objectives; - Evaluate syllabus and necessary resources in consultation with the committees - Evaluate textbooks and learning materials in consultation with the Committees - Provide guidance to Assistant Professors and Tutors if and when required - Function through curriculum, promotion, and research committee - Classroom teaching as course director and course supporter - Test preparation and grading according to guideline - Return of grades to Chicago office How far the teaching responsibilities are being met is evaluated by the student evaluation and the Dean’s assessment report. C) Research Responsibilities (Expected to spend minimum 40% of 40 working hours per week)

Professor should consult Research Committee for general guidelines on formulation of research proposal, submission of proposals to the

committee, engaging students in research activities, engaging satellite office in India for data collection. He will also:

- Develop Posters,

- Submit proposals to the research committee,

- Write book reviews, book chapters, or literature reviews-generate publication (that includes students’ research papers he/she

mentored),

- Guide at least 2 research projects per year. Those projects may be originating from students, may be part of ongoing short or long-

term project that is of relevance to the islands conditions, the local community or in the domain of Professor’s personal expertise &

interest

- Submit at least one long tern research proposal to the committee per year, supervise and/or mentor this proposal.

- Engage the satellite office in India with the task of collecting data as per proposal. At any given time, the office must have at least

five assignments for data collection.

- Serve as an adviser for clinical students thesis / research projects, when and where applicable.

How far the Research responsibilities are being met is evaluated by the report of Research Committee of:

- the number of proposals submitted to the research committee per year.

- number of proposals converted to posters.

- number of proposals sent to the satellite office to engage the staff with data collection.
