Concert Band &

The Golden Eagles Big Band

Bob Waner, director of the Concert Band and the Golden

Eagles Big Band, recently retired from the Hemet Schools

and now consults for the San Jacinto School District. His

principal instrument, the trombone, led him to study with

Robert Marsteller of the LA Philharmonic and Roy Main, an

LA studio musician. Bob’s background ranges from

symphony orchestra to big bands and jazz combos.

BiographiesBiographies

MSJC College Singers

Bonnie Pumphrey is the newly-appointed director of MSJC's

College Singers, San Jacinto Campus. For many years she

has directed choirs of all ages in the San Jacinto Valley: first

as Director of Music at Hemet First Presbyterian Church, and

later in Hemet Unified School District, where her groups per-

formed extensively in the community and won numerous

awards in regional and national competitions. Pumphrey

enjoys performing many choral styles including jazz, classi-

cal, Broadway, current, and others, and seeks to both

enlighten and entertain audience members as well as her

performers. Her professional training includes a Bachelor of

Music Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana, and

Master of Music in Choral Music from the University of

Southern California, where she studied with Harold Decker

and Rodney Eichenberger, respectively. She is a member of

the American Choral Director's Association, Southern

California Vocal Association, and Music Educators National

Conference.

Hemet Harmonizers

Bob Doty attended Saddleback Community College;

UCLA; California State University, Northridge; Montana

State University, Bozeman; University of Wyoming,

Laramie. He has earned degrees in Music, History, and

Social Sciences, and a Masters degree in Educational

Administration. Bob has worked for more than 25 years as

a teacher, principal, vocal and instrumental music teacher/

director. He has been involved with many community

theatre productions in California and Colorado (musicals,

comedies, and dramatic offerings). Bob has been a mem-

ber of the Barbershop Harmony Society for 11 years,

attended Harmony College in St. Joseph, Mo., and has

been the director of the Black Canyon Barbershop Chorus

in Montrose, Colorado.

Dance

Tennille Lambert was born in Birmingham, Alabama and

spent her early years folk dancing at Arts & Crafts and

County fairs. She received her MFA from Florida State

University and founded The Ugly Company in 2005 as a plat-

form for her off-the-beaten-path creative work. She has pre-

sented her choreographic works at Dance Theater Workshop,

Cunningham Dance Studio, Galapagos Art Space, Movement

Research, and The John Ryan Theater. Tennille was the

Festival Coordinator for the 37th annual Dance on Camera

Festival at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater and a

2009 Emerging Artist in Residence at The Field - NYC. For

the last three years Tennille taught for the FSU in NYC pro-

gram and is honored to be a new part of the MSJC perform-

ing arts community.

Theatre and Musicals

Lorney O’Connor has an Interdisciplinary MA in Theatrical Design

and Management from Cal State University, San Bernardino and

has recently completed an MFA in Theatre Arts from the

University of Oregon, Eugene. At present, he is an Assistant

Professor and the Department Chair of the MSJC Theatre

Department. Lorney has received numerous Inland Theatre

League Awards in many areas of Design.

MSJC Symphony

Manuel Alberto Aybar is the Artistic Director of the Riverside

Lyric Opera, Conductor of the Mt. San Jacinto Symphony, and the

principal conductor of the newly formed Chamber Orchestra of

London. He has held positions with and conducted orchestras in

the United States, Great Britain, Russia, Ukraine, Mexico, The

Czech Republic, Romania, and China. Manuel studied orchestral

conducting at the Royal College of Music in London with Neil

Thomson and John Farrer, at the California Conducting Institute

with Daniel Lewis, and at UCLA with Jon Robertson. He was

accepted to the Aspen Music Festival as a seminar conductor in

1995 and was an orchestral conducting fellow at the University of

Arizona in 1993. He also studied choral conducting at the

Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome and has performed in

master classes directed by Jorma Panula and Otto-Werner

Mueller.

Inland Chorale

Jane Atherstone, Music Director of the Inland Chorale, is dedi-

cated to presenting quality choral music in a professional yet

entertaining manner. The Chorale has been praised for its beauti-

ful tone quality, superb blend, and excellent diction. This small

group of 18 to 24 musicians sings repertoire ranging from classi-

cal to modern music. Atherstone is a well-known voice teacher in

the San Jacinto Valley and a member of the National Association

of Teachers of Singing and the American Choral Directors

Association. She has studied with some of the finest voice teach-

ers and directors in the country, including Ann Ayars, Richard

Miller, Fred Waring, and Axel Theimer. Her voice students have

been accepted into many prestigious college voice programs.

Virginia Pritchard, an MSJC Faculty member, has been the

Chorale’s accompanist since its founding. Her expert musician-

ship has been essential to the group’s success.
