1.2 Position in a Radio Access NetworkThe ZXSDR R8862 is an outdoor remote RF unit. It works with a BBU to implement allfunctions of a complete BTS/Node B, such as radio transmission in the coverage area andradio channel control.

ZXSDR R8862 (RRU).

Figure 1-2 illustrates the position of the ZXSDR R8862 in a radio access network.

1.3 FeaturesThe ZXSDR R8862 is a new 2T2R outdoor RRU that works with a BBU to implement thelogical functions of a base station.

The ZXSDR R8862 has the following features:

l Smallest size in the industry, easy for installation

The ZXSDR R8862 is 12 L in volume and 14 kg in weight. The compact designfacilitates transportation and installation, and reduces the bearing requirement fortower- or wall-mounted installation.

l SDR 2T2R design, supporting smooth evolution to LTE

Different from a traditional network, the same hardware platformwith different softwareconfigurations can support different radio systems in an SDR radio network. Thenetwork structure is simple and network management is convenient. The 2T2R designenables the system to smoothly evolve to LTE and support 2×2 LTE MIMO cells.With a single module supporting GSM + LTE, UMTS + LTE or GSM + UMTS + LTE

With optimized module structure and new materials, the ZXSDR R8862 providesmore efficient power amplification and lower power consumption than the existingSDR products. This reduces the expenditure on electricity for network operation andauxiliary products of power supply such as battery.

2.1 Hardware StructureThe ZXSDR R8862 consists of a power module, a transceiver, a power amplifier, and aduplex filter. Figure 2-1 shows the hardware structure of the ZXSDR R8862.

Power amplifier Integrated with a low noise amplifier, it amplifies downlink RF

signals and sends the RF signals to the duplexer.

Duplex filter Composed of a two-channel duplexer, it performs reception

diversity.

2.2 Software StructureFigure 2-2 illustrates the software structure of the ZXSDR R8862.

The software system of the ZXSDR R8862 runs on a Linux operating system that isinstalled on the hardware platform. The BSP, containing a suite of software closelyrelated to boards, supports the running of RTOS on the boards.

The operation supporting layer of the software system consists of six subsystems:

l OSS is a supporting layer for the entire software. It provides a hardware-irrelevantplatform on which the software runs to provide basic functions, such as scheduling,timing, memory management, inter-module communication, sequence control,monitoring, alarm management, , and log management.

l SCS controls the power supply and active/standby switchover.l OAM provides configuration, fault management, and performance measurement

functions.l DBS stores and manages data in the system.l BRS processes protocols in the system.l BRACS controls access to the bearer layer.

3.1 Operation and Maintenance ModesRemote Operation and MaintenanceThe NetNumen U31 element management system developed by ZTE can be usedto operate and maintain the ZXSDR R8862 remotely. The ZXSDR R8862 connectsto a BSC/RNC/BBU through the corresponding Abis/Iub/CPRI interface, and theBSC/RNC/BBU connects to the NetNumen U31 through a network. Figure 3-1 showsan example of the connections between these devices for remote operation andmaintenance.

In remote operation and maintenance mode, an NE connects to the element managementsystem through TCP/IP. The element management system can maintain multiple basestations at the same time.

Local Operation and MaintenanceAn LMT is a PC directly connected to the ZXSDRR8862 through an Ethernet cable. Figure3-2 shows the connection between the LMT and the ZXSDR R8862.

The LMT is used for local operation and maintenance of a single base station. Basicoperations, such as power query, power increase and decrease, and calibration, can belocally performed on the ZXSDR R8862 through the LMT.

3.2 Operation and Maintenance FunctionsThe NetNumen U31 unified element management system provides a GUI that displaysthe information of all NEs in the entire network on a topology map. A user can viewperformance data, alarm information, and configuration data of a specific NE, or operateand maintain multiple NEs of the same type on the topology map.

The NetNumen U31 provides the following operation and maintenance functions:

l Configuration management

The configuration management supports dynamic and static configuration of basestations, such as the addition, query, deletion, modification, and data consistencycheck of physical and radio resources.

l Security management

The security management ensures that only authorized users can perform permittedoperations on base stations.

l Performance management

The performance management supports performance analysis, calling trace, andsignaling trace.

l Version management

The version management allows users to view the hardware and software versions inbase stations and download latest versions for software upgrade.

l Fault management

The fault management includes alarm management and diagnostic tests. By usingthe fault management functions, maintenance personnel can monitor the operationalstatuses of base stations and collect the information of board and link faults in realtime for fault analysis and equipment maintenance.
