Having met EOTC coordinators from all over New Zealand I believe that Fiordland College has the best and most comprehensive co-curricular programme in the

country. This is because every member of staff at Fiordland College is fully commi ed to the programme and believes passionately in the benefi ts of co-curricular ac vi es.

However, it is not just the staff who ensure the success of our programme; na onal and local businesses, parents, ex-students and other

members of the community all support us in providing such an incredible range of opportuni es for the students.

On behalf of the staff at Fiordland College I would like to thank everyone involved for making it possible.

Our Programmes

Our Programmes

Our co-curricular weeks give students the opportuni es to:

• Par cipate• Contribute• Manage self• Respond to others• Lead others• Support others• Learn about themselves• Develop resilience• Develop resourcefulness• Learn new skills• Step outside of their comfort zone• Gain new knowledge• Gain confi dence• Stay away from home• Learn in a real-life context• Connect to the environment• Experience diff erent cultures• Gain a new perspec ve• Build new rela onships• Make memories• Have fun• Gain credits

Our co-curricular experiences inevitably cross learning areas and support transi ons and pathways to further learning. The na onal curriculum emphasises the importance of dealing with future-focused issues. Learning beyond the classroom also enables students to refl ect on and gain insights into their learning processes so that they are learning to learn.

The experiences students have together beyond the classroom are important not only because of the learning that occurs for each of the individuals involved but also for the shared experience that teachers can draw on a erwards. The shared experience becomes a pla orm for subsequent ac vi es and tasks.

Our co-curricular weeks can also help to develop partnerships in which learning is seen as a reciprocal ac vity, involving students, teachers, family members, and others in the wider community.

Experiences during our co-curricular weeks confi rm that many people are learners within this community and that not only teachers have exper se to off er.

Thank you for your support
