Sinister

One feature from the main image is the young girl, who is leaving a trail of blood behind her with her hand. This connotes two things; the stereotypical female victim is commonly used in horrors, as their presumed ‘physical weakness’ leaves them vulnerable to the antagonist. Also, the girls age implies the possibility of supernatural entities, such as nightmares or ‘monsters’ (demons) – however the blood-drawn image, the context from the tagline and the previous works of the producer leads us to believe that the evil nightmares will come to reality and haunt the living people. Typical of the horror genre, there are no well-known actors or celebrities as the audience can relate to an unknown character and emphasise with his or her feelings and emotions. While the lack of any emphasis on actors makes the narrative and storyline the focal aspect for the film. One main focus point on the poster is the bold title. The font is typically creepy and plays on the title ‘Sinister’ – already presenting a supernatural impression. As well as this, the dark colour of the title contrasts with the bright background and makes it stand out to the audience. The tagline under the title is also very significant as it creates the context for the narrative, which also links heavily to the image below. The main image is the main selling point, which is equally very terrifying and disturbing. The image on its own denotes a pair of demonic eyes, but with the context of the tagline, once he sees you, you can’t be saved – creates a very fearful and horrific atmosphere. The demonic eyes themselves look straight into the audience’s eyes giving them a very creepy and supernatural feeling. The image is also drawn by blood, which is typical of the horror genre as it seems to come from the victim’s hand. Another key feature is the snakes below the demon, which are typically demonic symbols and also connote fears and terror to many in the audience. Like a few other horror sub-genres, the film is produced by the same producer who made other films which are supernatural and physiological. Therefore, we can assume this film will also depict those same connections, as well as the several other supernatural aspects of the poster. The background of the poster is particularly grim and dull, which contrasts heavily with the blood – red image which in turn makes it stand out to the audience. The cracked and deteriorated nature of the wall paint suggests many ideas, but to my eyes the representation is that of the physiological - the demonic presence slowly decaying the mind until the nightmare becomes real.

  • One feature from the main image is the

young girl, who is leaving a trail of blood

behind her with her hand. This connotes two

things; the stereotypical female victim is

commonly used in horrors, as their presumed

    physical weakness leaves them vulnerable

to the antagonist. Also, the girls age implies

the possibility of supernatural entities, such

    as nightmares or monsters (demons)

however the blood-drawn image, the context

from the tagline and the previous works of

the producer leads us to believe that the evil

nightmares will come to reality and haunt the

    living people.

Typical of the horror genre, there are

no well-known actors or celebrities as

the audience can relate to an unknown

character and emphasise with his or

her feelings and emotions. While the

lack of any emphasis on actors makes

the narrative and storyline the focal

    aspect for the film.

One main focus point on the poster is the bold title. The font is typically creepy and plays on the title

Sinister already presenting a supernatural impression. As well as this, the dark colour of the title

contrasts with the bright background and makes it stand out to the audience. The tagline under the

title is also very significant as it creates the context for the narrative, which also links heavily to the

    image below.

The main image is the main selling point, which is equally very terrifying and disturbing. The image on its

own denotes a pair of demonic eyes, but with the context of the tagline, once he sees you, you cant be

we can assume this film will also depict

those same connections, as well as the

    poster.

The background of the poster is

particularly grim and dull, which contrasts

heavily with the blood red image which

in turn makes it stand out to the audience.

The cracked and deteriorated nature of

the wall paint suggests many ideas, but to

my eyes the representation is that of the

    physiological - the demonic presence

slowly decaying the mind until the

    nightmare becomes real.
