1. A SMP meeting was held on 07 September 2017 at 43 Area SMP Rec
Center Bldg. 430314. Sgt Agregado called the meeting to order at 1330.

help! For the fifth year in a row we are calling all Zombie Hunters
and fans to The Haunted Grounds at Camp Pendleton. Get equipped with
top of the line zombie-hunting paintball gear and walk the haunted
trails shooting zombies as you try and find an escape, ride our Zombie
Hunting moving trailer to eliminate from the hoard from above. Of
course, there’s the opportunity to play traditional paintball with a
Zombie twist in our Paintball Adventure.
Holiday Season at MCCS - We are always looking for Marines to
Volunteer during our Holiday events; MCX Tree Lighting Nov 18 and
Trees for Troops Dec 2. Network with other Marines and MCCS, MCX

10/02 – Monthly SMP Meeting Single Marine Program monthly meeting
will be held at 1330 at 43 Area SMP Rec Center, bldg. 430314.
10/06 – 10/09 – Las Vegas Trip – The largest sum won on the Las
Vegas slots was at the Excalibur. After putting in $100, they won $39
million, beating the odds at the time for 1 in 16.7 million. Come see
this city, $160 per person includes transportation and 3-night hotel
stay on the Las Vegas strip. Group departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253
at 0730. Registration currently open. Waitlist available.
10/13 – Stonewall Peak Hike & Julian Apple Pie – Enjoy a 360-
degree view over the forested peaks and wide-open meadows of this 2-
mile hike and then some famous Julian Apple-pie! $5.00 per person
includes transportation, hydration and snacks during the hike, please
bring money to purchase pie! Group departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1252
at 0700. Registration currently open.
10/20 – Buffalo Alley 10K – Free event that is a 10K off-road
running race throughout the hills of Camp Horno. Earn Commanding
General’s Cup participation points – bring your own hydration! Awards
for top three runners across the line. Race is October 20th 0700 –
1300 at Camp Horno 53 Area Football Field. Register at:

11/17 – Knott’s Berry Farm – Celebrating its 28th anniversary,
Knott’s is the only amusement park that opens its doors for free to
all military personnel both active and retired for the month of
November! Few places have this kind of lasting tribute to veterans.
$5.00 per person includes transportation and Free Active Duty park
entrance. Group departs Semper Fit HQ., Bldg. 1253 at 0730 and will
return at 2200. Registration opens Oct 10th.

Advanced registration is required for all SMP trips, events & volunteer opportunities. Program events are open only to single Marine and Sailors stationed on Camp Pendleton. Participants who volunteer must register in advance with SMP HQ in order to receive a letter of appreciation. Volunteers must provide their own transportation except for PE fitness Challenge. A signed command permission slip is required for all SMP activities. All activities depart from Semper Fit Headquarters Bldg. 1253. Unless otherwise stated and require that participants utilize the provided transportation.

SMP Volunteer Opportunities Retirement Home Visits Have dinner with the residents. Charlies are the requested uniform for these events. Max of 6-10 volunteers needed for each opportunity. Each event begins at 1600. 10/10 - Rancho Vista Retirement Home 10/11 - Pacific Place Retirement Home 10/25 - Fairwinds Retirement Home 10/04 & 10/18 - 1000 Base Stables Volunteer Day Camp Pendleton Stables, Bldg. 1516. Participants will help clean & groom horses, clean stalls, & help with general maintenance at the stables. Uniform of the day is civilian attire. Closed toed shoes are required. A maximum of 10 participants are needed for this opportunity. Participants must sign up prior to the event. Bring water! 10/14 1700 Pumpkin Plummet 10 Volunteers needed at 13 Area Pool. Volunteers may wear civilian attire and will help with parking, games and crowd control. An LOA will be issued to volunteers, dinner will also be provided. 10/27 P.E. Fitness Challenge Volunteers will host an all-day fitness challenge at an on-base school. All volunteers must meet at Semper Fit Headquarters at 0630. Please eat breakfast before you arrive. Dress attire is the Marine Corps Running Suit with green PT shorts and plain skivvy shirt underneath. Lunch will be provided. 40 volunteers needed.

The Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary is in real need of
volunteers who can come on a regular basis. There are a
lot of chores to do there & only a few volunteers. The
animals have to be cared for whether volunteers show up

often find it difficult to stay to a regular schedule. Most of
the chores involve cleaning & washing, not the most
exciting type of chore, but one that is required daily. Dog

Looking for service men & women to volunteer one to
two hours a week at one of our seven schools sites from
2:30 – 6:00 p.m. Volunteers will have the option to work
one on one with a student or work with the staff & the
entire class. Each class has about 20 to 25 students. Most
of our schools are elementary 1st through 5th grade. We
also have teens at our home site. Whether you volunteer,
mentor, tutor, or educate, collectively it makes a
difference! The Big Brother & Big Sister program is a
rolling system. Ideally we would like volunteers to commit
to 8 weeks. You have the option of setting your own
schedule & day as long as it aligns with the hours above.
Again, all of our schools are in Oceanside. A few schools
we serve include: San Luis Rey, Martin Luther King,
Foussat, La Fuente, South Oceanside, Libby, Palmquist, &
we have our town site – which is our main site; no school
is attached to this site. After eight weeks, an LOA will be
provided to each volunteer.

after school program, Operation Hero. OpHero is a free 10-
week after-school program that targets military children
grades Kindergarten through fifth who are experiencing
temporary difficulty in school, both socially &
academically. The class consists of after-school tutoring &
mentoring assistance in a small group with facilitators
who are dedicated in making a difference in the lives of
their students. The classes meet twice a week for 2.5
hours right after school. The program structure may vary
in order, but always involves snack, curriculum, outside
time, & homework help. The volunteer will assist the
teacher in the classroom as needed, including but not
limited to: reading aloud, teaching the daily curriculum,
outdoor team building activities, homework help, & other
opportunities that will arise.If you are free any day in the
afternoon Monday-Thursday & would like to help military

strong character to become CASA volunteers.
CASAs—Court Appointed Special Advocates—are
advocates for children in foster care, speaking up on their
behalf & helping them through what is often a confusing
& scary time. With just 10-15 hours a month, CASAs can
make a difference in the life of a child. CASAs are
thoroughly trained, then matched with & supported by a
Voices for Children staff member who works closely with
them on their case. Voices for Children is the only
nonprofit organization in San Diego County designated by
the Court to recruit, train, & lead CASA volunteers.
Volunteers must be at least 21 years old & committed to
following a child’s case for 18 months.

wanted to volunteer with teens & young adults with
special needs? Do you have a desire to help others? If so,

teens with special needs (such as autism) learn the
dynamics of building friendships, social skills & self-
expression through fresh & creative avenues. Drawing on
peers & professionals from the music community, this
group experiences music recording, instrument
exploration, improvisational songwriting, drumming &
other projects based on the interests & needs of the
group. This pilot program will involve a total of 6 jam
sessions, & volunteers (peer mentors) must be able to
attend all six sessions to sign up. Each Jam Session will
feature a special “rock star” guest musician & will be
facilitated by board-certified music therapists. Peer
mentor will help nurture inclusion opportunities for this
special group. Each peer mentor will be paired with a teen
as a buddy for the duration of the six sessions & must
attend a m&atory training session prior to the first group.
This opportunity will be once a month on Wednesdays

dogs. Volunteer to foster a service dog c&idate for six
weeks. TLCAD training instructors assess homeless shelter
dogs to identify dogs with the right temperament &
health to become a service dog. Foster Guardians then,
take the dog into their home for six weeks to positively
expose the dogs to various stimuli in the environment, as
well as introduce them to key foundation behaviors.
Foster guardians learn from TLCAD instructors how to
train basic foundation behaviors & all basic costs
(including food) of the dog are covered by TLCAD.
BENEFITS: help give a wounded warrior a service dog,
learn how to train a dog, option to adopt a great dog if it

The Pegasus Rising Project (26002 Bear Valley Heights

opportunity with shifts twice daily, 7 days a week. Hours
of Volunteer Shifts: 7-7:30am morning start times
(depending on the day of the week) & 4pm daily. Shifts

Strong Marine Volunteers Needed at Heritage Park Village
Museum. Heritage Park Village Museum is nearly finished
renovating the historic buildings that offer visitors the
opportunity to “step back in time” & glimpse Oceanside at
its incorporation in 1888. Marines were among the
volunteers that worked to bring this Park into existence
during our country’s bicentennial celebration in 1976. The
Park is made up of representative & historic buildings;
including the original Oceanside Jail formerly used for its
holding cells by the Camp Pendleton military police. The
museum furnishings & artifacts were removed from many
of the buildings & put into storage to enable renovations
& remodeling. Now that they have completed some of
this work, they need to return the furnishings to the
buildings. They are in need of 4-6 strong Marines to lift &
move some large & heavy glass display cases from storage
in the Livery Stable to their respective buildings onsite.

need help when that happens. However, they really want
to give this a try so here is the plan. Given time
constraints this may not be possible for most, but if you
are available please sign up for this wonderful volunteer
opportunity. 15 families were assisted by this store for
Christmas this past year!
- They will need two Marines each day on Tuesday &
Wednesday for pickup/delivery.
- The Marines will work with one of their volunteer truck
drivers who know the area.
- Their area of operations is Fallbrook, Bonsall, Rainbow &
De Luz.
- The hours will be 1200 to 1500 on Tuesday & 1000 to

Security detail for thoroughbreds. Equine security officers
(volunteers) will work a 12 hour shift from 5am-5pm, 5pm-
5am beginning on Tuesday, October 31 and continuing
until the end of
day on Saturday, November 4th. We can work with your
schedule. All volunteers are requested to attend a training
day on
Monday, October 30, transportation will be provided from
Camp Pendleton to Del Mar Racetrack for the training.
Volunteers will be
outfitted in custom Breeders’ Cup apparel, provided meals
and transportation to and from the racetrack and will be
trained in
equine security and safety.

The volunteers will be needed to help with set up
(beginning at 3p), be a part of the haunted house, man
the
attractions - help taking tickets), help with game stations,
emptying trash bins as needed, clean up and other
various duties as requested by PTO members. Each active
duty member will receive a letter of appreciation for
their time and we will also make sure they're well fed. We
would like to have our list of names secured by
October 1st to be sure we have the amount of volunteers
required to make this event run smoothly.
Description of what they want the volunteer to do: The
main responsibilities of soft security volunteers are to
check for proper wrist bands, ensure festival attendees do
not enter or leave any of the beer gardens with
alcohol, and overall just keep a vigilant eye for
disturbances that need to be reported to one of our
licensed Off
Duty Officer security team members.
