• Establishment: Council Decision of 23 October 2001, 2007 (recast)
• General role: The Mechanism can be called upon to facilitate and support civil protection
assistance in the event of a major disaster inside or outside the EU
• Scope: Any major natural or man-made disaster, including CBRN or other terrorist attacks
EU CP MECHANISMELEMENTS
• CIVIL PROTECTION DATABASE: Identifying civil
protection capacities available for assistance interventions (experts and teams)
• MONITORING AND INFORMATION CENTRE (MIC):
Mobilizes and dispatches expert teams at short notice, provides technical assistance, serves as an information centre
• COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION SYSTEM (CECIS): Ensuring efficient and secure communication
• TRAINING, EXERCISES AND EXCHANGES:
Improving coordination, compatibility and inter-operability
