Simple Machines in a CarBy: Carleigh Moore
CarCars are a basic mode of
transportation that most people use on a daily basis. Cars make it easier on people because they make it faster for traveling. Without cars, people would have to walk everywhere. People would be a lot more fit and America would not be obese.
The CarThe car has all six simple machines. It has the:1. Inclined Plane- The Windshield2. Lever- The Gear Shift3. Pulley- The Seat Belt4. Screw- The Screws in the Tires5. Wedge- The Parking Wedge6. Wheel and Axle- The Tires
Inclined PlaneAn inclined plane is a flat surface at
an angle. An example of an inclined plane on a car is the windshield. The windshield makes sure that the driver can see without wind blinding him. In other words, it deflects wind upward.
LeverA lever is a bar resting on a pivot,
used to help move a heavy load with one end when pressure is applied to the other. The gear shift in a car is a lever. The gear
shift, shifts the car from park, reverse, neutral, and drive. Without the gear shift, the car wouldn’t be able to know to reverse or driver and etc.
PulleyA pulley is a wheel with a cord
passing through it. It changes the direction of a force applied to the cord and is used to raise heavy weights. In cars, seat belts can be classified as pulleys. Seat belts keep you safe. Without seat belts, if you were to get into a car accident, the seat belts keep you from flying through the windshield.
Screw A screw is a sharp-pointed metal
pin with a thread running around it, used to join things together by being rotated so that it pierces materials and is held tightly in place. In a car, one example, are the screws that keep the tire on the car. Without the screws, the tires would fly right off the car after it started moving.
WedgeA wedge is a piece of material that
has one thin end and a thick end, that is driven between two objects. An example of a wedge in a car is a parking wedge. It can be used to makes sure that the car will not roll away when in park. Some people like to use it when they have parked on really steep roads.
Wheel and AxleThe wheel and axle is a wheel
attached to an axle so that these two parts rotate together in which a force is transferred from one to the other. The tires in a car is an example of the wheel and axle. On the car the wheels make the car move smoothly. As they rotate, they move the car.
