Sime Darby Logistics’ first foray into Shandong began inthe prefecture-level city of Weifang with the incorporation of Weifang Sime Darby Port Co Ltd and Weifang Sime Darby Water Management Co Ltd in 2005.

Today, Sime Darby Logistics’ operations in China have expanded to include three river ports in the prefecture-level city of Jining.

PORTS AND LOGISTICS

Located in the prime region of the Bohai Sea’s economic belt, Weifang Port is a seaport that handles bulk (dry and liquid), general cargo and containers. Weifang Port currently has a total handling capacity of 36 million MT per annum with an annual throughput of 21.4 million MT.

Jining Ports comprise three fully operational ports - Yuejin Port, Longgong Port and Taiping Port, all of which handle mostly coal/coke, bulk and general cargoes. Currently,Jining Ports have a combined handling capacity of 16.4million MT per annum via three of its operational ports.

Jining Sime Darby Taiping Port Co Ltd

Jining Sime Darby Taiping Port Co Ltd (“Taiping Port”) was founded in 2009 by Sime Darby Overseas (HK) Limited (70%) and Zoucheng City Road Engineering

Co Ltd (30%).

The port is located in Zoucheng, a county-level city in the south of Jining.

Taiping Port operates within Jining Taiping’s industrial park and offers customers shipping services to southern regions of China such as Jiangsu, Shanghai and Zhejiang.

Taiping Port has a total handling capacity of three million MT per annum, mainly handling cargoes such as coal, break-bulk, chemical handling, shipping and warehousing operations.

Weifang Sime Darby Port Co Ltd (”Weifang Port”) commenced operations in 1998, following an invitation from the Weifang Municipal Government to invest in the ports and logistics business in the city and to further develop Weifang Port, Sime Darby incorporated Weifang Sime Darby Port Co Ltd in August 2005.

Weifang Sime Darby Port Co Ltd is a joint venture company between Sime Darby Overseas (HK) Ltd(80.6%), Sime Darby Utilities Sdn Bhd (18.4%) and Weifang Port Co Ltd (1%).

In April 2009, Weifang Port achieved first tier port status awarded by the Ministry of Communications andTransportation of China. In December 2010, the Shandong Provincial Government and the Ministry ofCommunications and Transportation conferred the titleof ‘Regional Important Port’ on Weifang Port.

Weifang Port lies strategically within the network of Longkou Port, Yantai Port, Weihai Port, Qingdao Port and Rizhao Port. Weifang Port’s prime location makes it an excellent gateway and a natural choice for cargoes from central, northern and western Shandong and Weifang cities.

Jining Sime Darby Longgong Port Co Ltd (“Longgong Port”) was incorporated in November 2008 as a joint venture company between Sime Darby Overseas (HK) Ltd. (70%) and Jining City Rencheng District City Construction Investment Co Ltd (30%). The port has been fully operational since April 2012.

Located along the Longgong River, the port is situated in the southern region of Jining, handling mostly coal/coke and other general cargoes.

Longgong Port has a total handling capacity of three million MT per annum. Since commencement of operations, Longgong Port’s annual throughput has reached 2.1 million MT and recorded a revenue of over RMB10 million.

Longgong Port is scheduled to begin the second phase of construction for five additional one million MT berths in 2017. The expansion will increase the port’s total handling capacity to eight million MT per annum.

Jining Sime Darby Port Co Ltd (“Yuejin Port”) was incorporated on 13 March 2008 as a joint venture company between Sime Darby Overseas (HK) Ltd (70%) and Shandong Province Jining Municipal Bureau of Navigation Administration Channel Engineering Unit (30%). The port began operations in November 2009.

Located in Rencheng, Jining – a prefecture-level city in the Shandong province, Yuejin Port is an inland river port that handles mostly coal/coke and other bulk cargoes with a total handling capacity of nine million MT per annum. Its strategic location offers customers a convenient shipping option Shandong, Shanxi and Hebei.

Weifang Sime Darby Water Management Co Ltd(“Weifang Water”) was incorporated on 29 July 2005 as a joint venture company between Sime Darby Overseas (HK) Ltd (80%) and Sime Darby Utilities Sdn Bhd (20%). Located two kilometres north of Yangzi Town in theWeifang Binhai Economic-Technological Development Area (BEDA), in the Shandong province, Weifang Water comprises two water treatment plants and a flatland reservoir with a capacity of 3.5 million cubic metres per day.

Weifang Water’s first water treatment plant had aninitial capacity of 40,000 cubic metres per day. In October 2007, an upgrade the treatment plant increasedtotal capacity to 80,000 cubic metres per day. In line with the economic growth within the region, a secondwater treatment plant with a capacity of 60,000 cubicmetres per day, commenced in June 2009. Today, Weifang Water has a capacity of 140,000 cubic metres, a threefold increase since 2005. Its annual throughputhad increased to 34 million cubic metres. Weifang Water is the sole supplier of treated water in BEDA. Its customer portfolio grew significantly from three (The Haihua Group, Xinyuan Water Management and Weifang Sime Darby Port) in 2005 274 companies.The Haihua Group, which accounts for approximately50% of Weifang Water’s total throughput, is itskey client.

On 1 March, 2012, Weifang Water invested 8.9 millionto upgrade its first water treatment plant which wascompleted in January 2013. The processed water now meets the requirements of the national drinking water standard GB5749-2006. In the same year, Weifang Water completed construction of a 180 kilometre water supply pipeline covering the advanced technology park, science and educational park, central business district and surrounding industrial areas. This project forms part of the essential infrastructure for the expansion and development of BEDA. By 2018, Weifang Water will complete phase two of the second water treatment plant as well as the piping network for the science and educational park,commercial and residential park and advance technology park. Weifang Water’s daily capacity will increase to 200,000 cubic metres and actual throughput will exceed 160,000 cubic metres daily with the completion of these projects. By 2020, the construction of an additional water supply pipeline network at the harbour logistics park and tourist resort area will be completed. With the increased pipeline coverage, the actual throughput is expected to increase to 200,000 cubic metres per day.

Timothy Lee is the Managing Director of Sime Darby Logistics. He manages the Ports & Logistics and Water Management business units located in Weifang and Jining within the Shandong province in China. Lee has over 20 years of operational experience in the ports and container terminal management industry. Prior to joining Sime Darby in 2011, he was with Modern Terminals Limited, the second largest Port Operator in Hong Kong, where he was responsible for terminal developments, stakeholder management, and ensuring optimum performance levels of terminal operations. Lee was formerly the Chairman of the Sea Cargo Customer Liaison Group in 2010, a committee organised by the Hong Kong Customs & Excise Department to gather industry expertise to improve port competitiveness.

Alan Tong is a seasoned finance and multi-disciplined executive with more than 25 years of financial management experience. He has served several Fortune 500 Global MNCs over the past 20 years in China. Tong has experienced the full spectrum of China’s economic transformation during his senior leadership positions; Finance Director of Airbus China and Financial Controller of Heineken Breweries (Asia Pacific Breweries) based at various locations in Southern China, Shanghai and Beijing. As a key member of the global business leadership team he is responsible for leading all aspects of finance, tax, information technology and strategic planning and acquisition projects. Tong joined Sime Darby Logistics in January 2016 as its Chief Financial Officer.

Lai Ah Chek has spent 36 years in the transport and logistics industry. He is currently the Head of Marketing & Logistics for Sime Darby Logistics, a position he has held since 2011. Lai was earlier responsible for the orderly development and construction of the ports in Jining and the expansion programme in Weifang. He has since moved to develop Weifang port’s logistics park, one of the growth strategies adopted in the port blueprint. Prior to joining Sime Darby, Lai’s has assisted local and foreign companies to start up their logistics operations and practices in Malaysia. He spent six years teaching logistics at the Singapore Polytechnic and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

A seasoned banker with more than 10 years of corporate experience, Goh Chong Ee was with AmInvestment Bank Bhd and ECM Investment Bank Bhd where he held senior leadership positions and advised top Southeast Asian clients on capital raising, financial restructuring and merger and acquisition transactions. He joined a diversified group listed on Bursa Malaysia as Deputy General Manager with prime responsibility for leading all aspects of strategy, planning and commercial development projects of the group. Goh joined Sime Darby Logistics in 2015 as the Head of Strategy and Business Development and he is a core member of the Division Management Committee and executive director of key joint venture companies and subsidiaries.

Zang Qian was appointed as the General Manager of Weifang Sime Darby Port Co Ltd in 2016. He began his career in Sime Darby in 2006 as Head of Finance and Deputy General Manager of Weifang Sime Darby Water Co Ltd, and was appointed as the Deputy General Manager of Weifang Sime Darby Port Co Ltd in 2007. Zang held the position of General Manager of Jining Sime Darby Port Co Ltd from 2009 to 2012. Thereafter he was appointed as the Deputy General Manager and Head of Project of Weifang Sime Darby Port Co Ltd, a position he held from 2013 to 2015. Zang is now the head of the project management office at Sime Darby Logistics.

He joined Weifang Port Co Ltd in 2003, as Deputy General Manager of Weifang Port Co Ltd and has served as the General Manager of Weifang Sime Darby Water Co Ltd and General Manager of Jining Sime Darby Port Co Ltd. He was appointed as the Assistant of Managing Director of Sime Darby Logistics overseeing government affairs in October 2013.
